Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2015;32(5):1125-1130
In view of the problems of more artificial interventions and segmentation defects in existing two-dimensional segmentation methods and abnormal liver segmentation errors in three-dimensional segmentation methods, this paper presents a semi-automatic liver organ segmentation method based on the image sequence context. The method takes advantage of the existing similarity between the image sequence contexts of the prior knowledge of liver organs, and combines region growing and level set method to carry out semi-automatic segmentation of livers, along with the aid of a small amount of manual intervention to deal with liver mutation situations. The experiment results showed that the liver segmentation algorithm presented in this paper had a high precision, and a good segmentation effect on livers which have greater variability, and can meet clinical application demands quite well.

Chinese Journal of Experimental Ophthalmology 2013;(3):270-274
Background Increase of lens thickness at incipient cataract is a key factor of onset of primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG).Phacoemulsification (Phaco) or phacotrabeculectomy (Phacotrabe) have been documented to be effective for the patients of PACG associated with cataract. However, which surgery is more effective and safe is lack of evidence. Objective This study was to assess and compare the clinical effectiveness of Phaco versus Phacotrabe for PACG with cataract. Methods The relevant literature was searched electronically from the PubMed (1966 to June 2011),EMB Reviews (1966 to June 2011) and Cochrane Library (Issue 1,2011).The manually searching of relevant conference proceedings was used as the supplement. The articles of randomized controlled trial (RCT) about the clinical effectiveness of Phaco versus Phacotrabe for PACG with cataract were included. The methodology quality of included literature was graded. The analysis indexes included intraocular pressure (IOP)-lowing range, postoperative administration of glaucoma drugs, incidence of positive complication, postoperative best corrective visual acuity (BCVA) and perimetry damage. The RevMan4.2 software from Cochrane Collaboration was used for the Meta analyses. Results Three RCTs about phaco versus Phacotrabe for PACG with cataract were selected in this study with the 164 eyes of 164 cases.Meta analysis showed that the IOP-lowing range was larger in the Phacotrabe group compared to only Phaco group with the WMD of 1.17 and 95% CI of 0.06-2.27 (P =0.040),and the drug dosage of anti-glaucoma was less in the Phacotrabe group in comparison with the Phaco group with the WMD of 0.5 and 95% CI of 0.24-0.77 (P =0.000).However,the incidence of postoperative complication was higher in the Phacotrabe group than that of the Phaco group with the RR of 0.08 and 95% CI of 0.02-0.33 (P =0.000).No significant difference was found in the BCVA (WMD =0,95% CI:-0.13-0.13,P=1.00) andperimetry (WMD =1.01,95%CI:0.56-1.82,P=0.98).Conclusions Compared with Phaco,Phacotrab has a better IOP-lowing effectiveness and slightly worse safety.Phaco and Phacotrab have a fairly influencc in the postoperative BCVA and perimetry. As the sample sizes of the included trials are relatively small, more welldesigned large-scale RCTs are needed.

Objective:To observe the effect of low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) at different intensities on the expression of adiponectin and its receptors in C2C12 myoblasts, and to explore the potential mechanism by which LIPUS promotes the differentiation of C2C12 myoblasts.Methods:C2C12 myoblasts cultured in vitro were randomly divided into a control group and U 0.1, U 0.3 and U 0.5 groups. The control group received sham LIPUS exposure, while the U 0.1, U 0.3 and U 0.5 groups were exposed to LIPUS at intensities of 0.1W/cm 2, 0.3W/cm 2 or 0.5W/cm 2 respectively, and 1MHz for 5 min daily for 5 days. Cell viability was measured using CCK-8 assays. Fluorescence quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reactions were used to detect the mRNA expression of adiponectin, adiponectin receptor 1 (adipoR1) and T-cadherin in the cells. Western blotting was employed to assess the protein expression of adiponectin, adipoR1, T-cadherin, adenosine monophosphate activated protein kinase (AMPK), activated phosphorylated adenylate-activated protein kinase (P-AMPK), embryonic myosin heavy chain (eMHC) and myogenin (MYOG). The differentiation ability of the 4 groups was measured using cell immunofluorescence chemistry. Results:After the intervention the cell viability in the U 0.1, U 0.3 and U 0.5 groups was significantly higher than in the control group. Compared with the control group, the average mRNA expression of adiponectin and the receptors of adipoR1 and T-cadherin were up-regulated significantly in the U 0.3 and U 0.5 groups. The average adiponectin, adipoR1 and T-cadherin protein expressions, and the AMPK phosphorylation level in the U 0.3 and U 0.5 groups had increased significantly compared with the control group, but all were significantly lower than in the U 0.3 group. The average protein expression of eMHC and MYOG, and the C2C12 myoblast fusion indices of the U 0.3 and U 0.5 groups were significantly higher the control group′s averages. Conclusions:LIPUS can promote the differentiation of C2C12 myoblasts. It is most effective at 0.3W/cm 2, administered for 5min/d at 1MHz with a 20% duty cycle. Its regulatory mechanism may be related to up-regulation of the expression of adiponectin, the adipoR1 and T-cadherin receptors, and the activation of AMPK phosphorylation in C2C12 myoblasts.
