This paper presents the results of the gross dissection and the histologic observation on the thyroid and parathyroid glands of Rhinopithecus. Specimens used in the studies are composed of R. roxellanae (1 (?), subad.), R. bieti (2 ♀♀, ad.; 1 ♀,juv.) and R. brelichi(2(?)(?),ad.). Besides the position and shape of the gross anatomy of the thyroid and parathyroid glands, attention was paid to the cellular types of the parathyroid glands. Material used for the histologic investigation is stained with HE and the modified Mallory-Azan methods and observed under the light microscopy. The principal results are summarized as follows:1. The thyroid gland consists of two lateral obes. The dimension of the gland measured 18.0?9.0, 15.0?8.0 and 14.0?6.0 mm. in bieti;23.0?9.0 mm. in roxellanae; 25.0?9.0 and 30.0?1.0 mm in brelichi; and one isthmus measures 3.0?10.0, 2.0?10.0 and 2.0?6.0 mm. in bieti; 4.0?6.0 mm. in roxellanae; 5.0?12.0 and 5.0?14.0 mm. in brelichi. The total weight of the gland is 1.0, 0.5 and 0.3g in bieti; 0.9g in roxellanae; 0.9 and 1.8g in brelichi. The isthmus connects the lower edges of two lateral lobes. There is no pyramidal lobe.2. The blood supply is derived from the superior thyroid arteries. There are no inferior thyroid arteries in three kinds. The thyroid venous drainage is by the superior and inferior thyroid veins, there is no median thyroid vein.3. The sizes and shapes of the thyroid vary with species. Each animal possesses two parathyroid glands, one of each side, but their position is also variable in the different animals.4. The follicular epithelium of the thyroid contains two cellular types, viz. the typical follicular epithelial cells and C cells.5. The parathyroid gland of Rhinopithecus is histologically similar to that of Macaca mulatta and man, which contains four basic cellular elements. There is an intermediary cellular type probably a variant of the oxyphil cells.6. Grey blue granules are present in the pale oxyphil cells of the parathyroid glands of both brelichi and bieti.7. There are less oxyphil cells among the parenchymal cells of the parathyroid gland in the subadult roxellanae than in both bieti and brelichi.

Objective To assess the deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) vessels in patients with breast reconstruction flaps by contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and three-dimensional ultrasound (3DUS) reconstruction techniques. Methods Conventional ultrasound,CEUS and 3DUS were used to evaluate DIEP vessels of breast reconstruction flaps in 43 patients before surgical procedures. The identification, localization and spatial relationship of DIEP vessels were analyzed with conventional ultrasound,CEUS and 3DUS methods. The findings of CEUS and 3DUS were compared to conventional ultrasound and surgical outcome. Results Compared to CDFI,40 cases (93%) were observed more clearly with CEUS,and were showed more accurately than conventional ultrasound.41 cases (95%) could be displayed wonderfully in 3D ultrasound.Perforators which were detected by ultrasound were confirmed in the surgery and the transferred flaps survived completely. Conclusions Perforators can be displayed more clearly and located more accurately by CEUS and 3DUS.CEUS and 3DUS could play a very important role in the preoperative navigation of the DIEP than conventional ultrasound.

Objective To assess the value of ultrasonography(US)in the diagnosis of pancreas endocrine tumors(PET).Methods Thirty-six patients with PET confirmed by surgery and pathology were retrospectively reviewed. Results There were 37 PET in 36 patients, among which 33 tumors in 32 cases were detected bv US,four tumors were missed on US and the detection rate was 88.9%(32/36).The tumor size was 1.0 cm×0.8 cm~12.9 cm× 11.3 cm.Among 12 cases of equal to or less than 2 cm,9 tumors were detected and the detection rate was 75.0%.PET presented mostly hypoechogenicity(78.8%),other 7 cases presented mixed-echogenicity.Color Doppler US was performed on 12 cases and 11 tumors showed color blood signals.Abundant flow signal was detected in 8 tumors(66.7%).PET were found in pancreatic head (n=11),neck(n=2),body(n=6)and tail(n=11),which was diagnosed correctly in 30 cases (81.1%).Conclusions US is a useful tool in the detection and diagnosis of PET.

OBJECTIVETo explore the hematopoietic and immunologic reconstitution and transplantation-related complications of HLA one locus mismatched unrelated umbilical cord blood transplantation for the treatment of hematological malignancies.
METHODSTwo children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia received HLA-mismatched unrelated umbilical cord blood transplantation. The conditioning regimens were BU-CTX (case 1) and BU-CTX plus BCNU (case 2). GVHD prophylaxis regimen consisted of cyclosporine (CsA) and mycophenolate mofetil (MMF). The patients received 14.6 x 10(7) nucleated cells/kg with 7.24 x 10(5) CD(34)(+) cells/kg and 16.24 x 10(7) nucleated cells/kg with 21.11 x 10(5) CD(34)(+) cells/kg, respectively.
RESULTSThe two recipients, ANC > 0.5 x 10(9)/L occurred at day 27 and day 17, BPC > 50 x 10(9)/L at day 53 and day 46, the peripheral blood counts normalization at day 60 and day 52, the immune function normalization at day 134 and day 122 and the DNA fingerprinting showing engraftment at day 19 and day 17, respectively. The donor-recipient pair of case 1 was male to female, and the chromosome karyotype of recipients bone marrow and peripheral blood cells showed 100%, 46, XY cells at day 49. Grade II acute graft versus host disease (aGVHD) occurred at day 26 (case 1) and day 21 (case 2). The two recipients have survived for 353 days and 256 days.
CONCLUSIONThe hematopoietic and immunologic reconstitution in umbilical cord blood transplantation were earlier and more durable. The transplantation-related complications were less and aGVHD were milder.
