Objective To introduce a new method for correcting square face deformity. Methods This operation consists of malar reduction (MR)and mandibular angle osteotomy (MAO),which could be done simutaneously or at different time. Results A total of 21 patients with square face deformity accepted MR and MAO in which 12 cases were done simutaneously and 9 cases at different time. After this procedure, the width of the mid face and the lower face reduced by 15.3?3.2mm and 14.2?2.5mm, respectively. A11 the cases achieved satisfactory results without complications. Conclusion This method can effectively correct square face deformity by reducing the width and protrusion of the mid face and the width of the lower face.

Objective To study the immune response induced by the mice immunized with Trichinella spiralis(T.spiralis) adult worm soluble antigen(AWSAg). Methods T.spiralis AWSAg was prepared to immunize Kunming strain mice. Dynamic changes of IgG, IL 2 and T lymphocyte subsets from immunized mice were determined after challenge infection on d 7, d 14 , d 21 , d 28 and d 35 . Results On d 7 after challenge infection, IgG and CD4 + T cells of immunized group were markedly elevated and persisted higher over the observation period. In contrast, CD4 + T cells and CD4/CD8 ratio were significantly decreased in unimmunized group resulted from immune suppression after infection. IL 2 levels reached the peak on d 7 and persisted in high level from d 7-d 21 in both immunized and unimmunized group after infection, then decreased gradually. Till 35 days after infection, IL 2 level was still higher than the normal mice. Conclusion Mice immunized with AWSAg of T. spiralis produced a potential cellular and humoral immune response.

Objective To explore the change and its clinical significance of neuron-specific enolase (NSE) and S-100? in serum and hippocampus tissue in rats with epilepsy induced by Kainic acid (KA).Methods 180 Wistar rats were randomly classified into control, KA and carbamazepine (CBZ) group, and the later two groups were further divided into 6 sub-groups (1 h, 4 h, 12 h, 24 h, 48 h and 72 h ) according to epileptic attack at different time point. The NSE and S-100? concentrations in serum and homogenate of hippocampus were determined by radioimmunity assay (RIA) and enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), respectively. Results The concentrations of NSE and S-100? were dynamic change during 72 h after epileptic attack in serum and hippocampus homogenate, and the changes were synchronous. The concentrations reached peak at 12 h. Both NSE and S-100? concentrations in KA and CBZ group were obviously higher than those in control group ( P

Objective To assess the reliability of the modified lateral transgluteal approach (modified Bauer approach) to the hip for the joint prosthesis.Method The Bauer approach modification was used for 43 hip endoprosthetic replacement. Results The modified approach provided good exposure of the hip for arthroplasty, and early chance of function recovery.Excellent and good rate was 96.97% according to Harris result evaluation. No evidence of weakness of abductors of the hip and damage to superior glouteal nerve was found at six months. Conclusion The modified Bauer approach is reliable and recommendable for primary hip replacement because of its good exposure of the hip and the least disturbance to the abductor function.

AimTo explore the kinetic change of the IgG,T-cell subsets and IL-2 level from the mice infected with T. Spiralis. Methods The level of specific IgG A band IL-2 was determined by ELISA,the percentage of CD4+and CD8+ T-cells were examined by flow cytometry on 7, 14,21,28,35 days after mice infected with T. spiralis respectively. ResultAfter infected with T. spiralis, the level of IgG in mice rised gradually, and reached its peak on the 35th day. The change of T-cell subsets showed that CD4+T cells decreased, which CD8+Tcells increased. The ration of CD4+/CD8+cells decreased, and which was the obvious on the 14thday. It did not recover to normal level even on the 35th day. The IL-2 of level reached the peak on the 7th day after infected, then IL-2 level decreased quickly and lower than that of normal mice on 35th day after infected. Conclusion When the acute phase of T. spiralis infection, the immune function of host was inhibited. The protective immunity of against T. spiralis infection was cellular immunity mainly ,in cooperation with humoral immunity.

Objective To investigate the clinical therapeutic effect of acupuncture on pulmonary infection after acute cerebral infarction. Methods Seventy patients with pulmonary infection after acute cerebral infarction were randomly allocated to treatment and control groups, 35 cases each. The control group received routine medication and the treatment group, acupuncture in addition. Pre-treatment and post-treatment National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) scores and clinical pulmonary infection scores (CPIS) were compared between the two groups. The correlation between the NIHSS score and the CPIS score was observed. Results There were statistically significant pre-/post-treatment differences in the NIHSS score and the CPIS score in the two groups (P<0.05,P<0.01). There were statistically significant post-treatment differences in the NIHSS score and the CPIS score between the treatment and control groups (P<0.05). The correlation between the NIHSS score and the CPIS score was low in the treatment group after treatment (r=0.417,P<0.05).Conclusions Acupuncture plus medication is an effective way to treat pulmonary infection after acute cerebral infarction. It can improve the NIHSS score and the CPIS score in the patients.

Objective To evaluate the mechanism of altered gastrointestinal motility in portal hypertensive rats. Methods Thirty-two male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into four groups:sham- operation control (SO, n=8), prehepatic portal hypertension by partial stenosis of the portal vein (PHPH, n=8 ), intrahepatic portal hypertension induced by injection of CCl 4 (IHPH, n=8), and intrahepatic portal hypertension with portacaval shunt (IHPH-PCS, n=8). Gastrointestinal myoelectrical activity and motility were monitored. Gastrointestinal hormones were measured with radioimmunoassay. Results Compared with SO rats, gastrointestinal motor index(MI) were reduced and abnormal myoelectrical activity were recorded (P

Objective To evaluate the effects of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) gene transfer on intrahepatic vascular resistance (IHVR) and portal venous pressure (PVP) in cirrhotic rats. Methods (1) 5 days after eNOS gene transfer, the in situ liver perfusion system (ISLP) was prepared and in different groups of controls and eNOS treated rats, the followings were analyzed: portal perfusion pressure (PP) dose-response curve to norepinephrine (NE); the effects on PP caused by specific nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitor N-monomethyl-L- arginine (L-NMMA) or the nitric oxide (NO) synthesis substrate L-arginine (L-Arg). (2) The experiment of perfusion via portal vein in vivo was performed and the effects of L-NMMA on the PVP was observed. Results (1) In ISLP model, after L-NMMA was added into the perfusate of the control rats, PP dose-respose to NE increased remarkably and the peak of PP increased to (26.7?0.9) mm?Hg. The increased PP response to NE caused by L-NMMA was offsetted by L-Arg and the peak of PP decreased to (23.2?0.9) mm?Hg. In eNOS treated rats, PP response to NE was significantly lower than that in controls (P
