Objective: To compare and analyze the maxillary lingual arch forms of ClassⅠmalocclusions after extraction and non-extraction treatment respectively. Methods: 60(30 with extraction, 30 non-extraction)maxillary dental models of ClassⅠmalocclusions after orthodontic treatment were measured in lingual arch widths and depths. The data were analyzed by statistical methods and the charts of lingual arch forms were drawn. Results: The lingual arch widths and depths in anterior segments of the extraction group were significantly larger than those of the non-extraction group(P0.05). The lingual arch forms of the two groups were similar in anterior segments, and more different in premolar and first molar segments, but similar from the distal lingual cusp of the first molars. Conclusion: The lingual arch forms of the two groups are similar in appearances, but the anterior segments of the extraction group are deeper than that of the non-extraction group.

Objective: To investigate the effects and mechanism of microscrew implant anchorage (MIA) in speeding up the closure of extraction space by one step and retraction of anterior teeth. Methods: Twenty-three patients with teeth extraction and required strong posterior anchorage were treated with MIA to close the extraction space. The extraction spaces were closed by two methods respectively. The extraction spaces were closed by the method of one step and retraction of anterior teeth(Ni-Ti spring from MIA to the hook on the wire combined with the elastic pull from MIA to cuspid) on the experiment sides and by the traditional one step method(Ni-Ti spring from MIA to the hook on the wire alone) on the control sides. Which side treated as trial side or control side was selected at random. The period of the space closing, the way and position of anterior teeth movement were observed on each side and the period of the space closing of two sides were tested by paired t test. Results: ①The average period of the spaces closing which was (6.69±1.07) months on the trial side and (9.56±1.19) months on the control side was significantly different (P<0.05).② After the closure of extraction spaces, the cuspid achived better position on the trial side than the contral side on which cuspid presented distal-lingual rotation. Conclusion: The extraction spaces can be closed in all cases by two methods respectively. Using MIA to close the extraction space by one step and retraction of anterior teeth can not only shorten the period of space closing but also achieve nice outcome by moving the cuspid in spongy bone.

Objective To investigate the expression of soluble triggering receptors expressed on myeloid cells-1 ( sTREM-1 ) in intraperitoneal drainage fluid of patients with abdorminal trauma and its predictive value for post-traumatic sepsis. Methods A total of 80 abdominal trauma patients were served as the trauma group and 25 patients treated with subtotal gastrectomy as the control group.Intraperitoneal drainage fluid sTREM-1,serum sTREM-1,procalcitonin (PCT) and C-reactive protein (CRP)at 0,24,48,72 hours after admission were determined in two groups for assessing their value in early prediction of post-traumatic sepsis. Results The levels of drainage fluid sTREM-1,serum sTREM-1,PCT and CRP in the trauma group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05 ).Drainage fluid sTREM-1 showed the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, sensitivity and specificity for 0.84,77%,and 83% in the prediction of post-traumatic sepsis, which was superior to the serum sTREM-1,PCT and CRP. Conclusion Intraperitoneal drainage fluid sTREM-1 has high accuracy in predicting the sepsis in abdominal trauma patients.

Objective To investigate the effect of high volume hemofiltration (HVHF) on expression of miRNA-146 in peripheral blood mononuclear cells in posttraumatic sepsis patients and its therapeutic mechanism. Methods Twenty-five cases of posttraumatic sepsis were included as HVHF group.Another 25 age-and gender-matched traumatic sepsis patients with similar APACHE-Ⅱ who received no HVHF treatment for some reasons were used as controls.Therapeutic measurements were the same of the two groups except for HVHF.At 0-,6-,12-,24-and 48-hour time points, the peripheral blood mononuclear cells were isolated from patients of both groups to detect level of miRNA-146.Peripheral blood mononuclear cells isolated at 24 hours were incubated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in vitro. At hours 4,8,12,24 and 48 after incubation, level of miRNA-146 in mononuclear cells was determined and levels of TNF-α,IL-6,and IL-10 in the substrate was detected by ELISA.Results (1) Level of miRNA-146 in HVHF group was decreased significantly over time as compared with that in sepsis group;(2) Before incubation and at 4-and 8-hour after incubation,miRNA-146 level was lowered significantly in HVHF group as compared with that in sepsis group. After LPS stimulation, mononuclear cell also presented a stronger inflammatory response in HVHF group than in sepsis group. Conclusions HVHF provides a definite effect on immune function recovery and a significant improvement in prognosis. Moreover,HVHF may attenuate the impact of miRNA-146 on mononuclear cell inflammatory factor release and enhance the cell ability to respond to external stimuli again via down-regulating miRNA-146,as may be one of the therapeutic mechanisms of HVHF for posttraumatic sepsis.

Ascending and descending efferent projections of superior coUiculus were indentified by means of the anterograde horseradish peroxidase technique in the cat.Following injections of HRP into the rostral superior colliculus, a large number of labeled terminals were found mainly in several of the ipsilateral thalamic nuclei:ventromedial division of the ventral nucleus of the lateral geniculate body, zona incerta, lateral posterior nucleus, parafasciculus nucleus and centromedian nucleus. The mediodorsal nucleus and thalamic reticular nucleus were also found mildly labeled.Labeling were most heavily concentrated in the ipsilateral dorsolateral division of pontine nucleus and caudal region of parabigeminal nucleus. The dorsal part of medial accessory olivary was the only nucleus labeled contralaterally. After injecting HRP into the caudal superior colliculus, only the dorsolateral division of pontine nucleus was densely labeled, while labeled terminals of caudal parabigeminal nucleus signifcantly reduced in amount. No labeled terminals were found in the thalamus as well as medial accessory olivary nucleus. These results indicate that the efferent connections of superior colliculus are topographically organized.

Acta Anatomica Sinica 1955;0(03):-
The afferent connections and topographical organization of the central lateral nucleus were studied with HRP retrograde tracing technique in 10 adult cats. The central lateral nucleus received projections from the forebrain, brainstem and cerebellum. The nuclei, projected to the caudal region of the central lateral nucleus, included the dorsal division of the ventral lateral geniculate nucleus, the thalamic reticular nucleus and the deep layers of superior colliculus, primarily on the ipsilateral side. The intralaminar thalamic nucleus, the lateral hypothalamus and the reticular part of substantia nigra sent axons to terminate in the rostral region of the central lateral nucleus, with an ipsilateral predominance. The nuclei, projected to the whole length of the central lateral nucleus, were the vestibular neuclei, the reticular formation of brainstem, zona incerta, pretectal area, cells surrounding the occulomotor complex, principal sensory trigeminal, cuneatus, gracilis as well as cerebellar dentate. The vestibular nuclei and the reticular formation of brainstem were found bilateral projection, the former predominantly in contralateral, the latter mainly in ipsilateral part. Except the zona incerta, pretectal area and cells surrounding the occulomotor, the rest were labeled primarily on the contralateral side. If HRP was injected into the central lateral nucleus and spread to the ventral anterior nucleus of thalamus, a lot of HRP-positive cells were found in the entopeduncular nucleus, while the ventral tegmental nucleus of Gudden was filled with densely labeled terminals mainly on the ipsilateral side. These findings indicate that the central lateral nucleus of thalamus may be involved multiple sensory and motor functions.

Objective To assess the characteristics of abdominal hernia and summarize the therapeutic efficacy of mesh plug tension-free hernioplasty in elderly ventral hernia. Methods All 207 elderly patients with abdominal hernia who were admitted to our hospital during January 1999 to December 2001 and received the mesh plug tension-free hernioplasty were analyzed retrospectively. Results There were 405 patients receiving the mesh plug tension-free hernioplasty from 1999 to 2001, in whom 207 had elderly ventral hermia. Among the 207 elderly patients, 144 had inguinal oblique hernia, 38 direct hernia, 11 direct and indirect hernia, 6 sliding hernia, 6 incisional hernia, 1 femoral hernia, and 1 femoral and inguinal direct hernia. Postoperative complications were urinary retention(8 cases), hypoincisional hematoma(4), scrotal hydroceles(1), and incisional infection (1). One hundred eithty-seven patients were followed-up for 4-40 months and no recurrence was found. Conclusions The mesh plug tension-free hernioplasty is of advantages for elderly abdominal hernia, such as simpleness in performance and a good therapeutic effect. It is especially suitable for the elderly patients due to less trauma and low recurrence rate. It is also important to pay attention to the postoperative complications to the elderly.
