Journal of International Oncology 2011;38(7):540-542
Endoscopic ultrasound was initially introduced in 1980s as a diagnostic modality combining echoendoscopes with radial scanning, which permitted reconstruction of cross-sectional images similar to computed tomography. Many studies showed that endogastric ultrasonography is more accurate than endoscopy or CT in evaluating the depth of invasion ( T category) and the involvement of lymph nodes (N category) in patients with gastric carcinoma. In addition to being very useful in tissue acquisition for diagnostic purposes, the principles behind endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration ( FNA) paved the way for the development of therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound, which improve the prognosis of patients with gastric cancer.

The progressive loss of skeletal muscle protein observed in cancer cachexia may have a negative impact on both the quality of life and the survival time of patients. In recent years, accumulating evidences suggest that the ATP ubiquitin proteasome pathway may be crucial in muscle cachexia. The review is mainly about the role of the ATP ubiquitin proteasome pathway in the degration of skeletal muscle protein during cancer cachexia.

Objective To investigate the changes of CD cells in splenic tissue in patients with portal hypertension(PHT) accompanied by hypersplenism to explore the features of immunological function in patients with PHT.Methods The resected splenic tissue was made into paraffin sections for the detection of number and distribution of CD_3~+,CD_8~+,CD_(20)~+ and CD_(68)~+ cells, with the control of those in healthy individuals. Results The numbers of CD_3~+,CD_8~+,CD_(20)~+ and CD_(68)~+ cells remarkably decreased in patients with PHT accompanied by hypersplenism compared with those in normal controls. In normal controls, the CD_(68)~+ cells mainly existed in splenic lymphocyte nodules and red pulp(RP),and in patients with PHT,they existed in splenic lymphocyte nodules and periarterial lymphatic sheath(PALS).Compared with the normal controls, the numbers of CD_(68)~+ in splenic lymphocyte nodules, red pulp and marginal zone(MZ) decreased in patients with PHT.Conclusion The number and distribution of CD cells are changed in patients with PHT accompanied by hypersplenism. With splenectomy, the immunological function may be improved and the abnormalities in routine blood parameters and liver function be corrected. However, the immunological indexes detected in the study can not completely show the systematic immunological function of the patients with PHT accompanied by hypersplenism. Thus we should conduct a long-term follow-up study on immunological function in these patients.

Objective To investigate the relationship between the parameter of P100 elicited by pattern stimuli, spatial frequency and visual acuity in the posttraumatic eyes. Methods 81 eyes sustained blunt injury in outpatients were enrolled from West China Hospital, Sichuan University. The control group was composed of 199 eyes without disease or trauma. Different P100 wave including amplitude and latency were recorded in each eye stimulated by reversal pattern with 5 - sized checkerboards. The data were processed by SPSS to describe the relationship between the visual acuity and the parameter of P100 wave. A linear and regression analysis was done in the statistic procedure. Results There was a high correlation between spatial frequency ( X) and the log visual acuity ( Y). Regression equations were deduced for evaluating the visual acuity. There was a correlation between the latency of P100 wave (X) and the log visual acuity (Y) in all the examined eyes. Conclusion The established regression equations can be used to evaluate the visual acuity as an accurate and objective method. There is a promising future of its application in the forensic clinical authentication of visual function.

Objective To explore a new way to drain a postoperative abdominal abscess. Method Drainage catheter and sinography were employed to locate the site of the abscess, and a 10.2F~16F catheter with single or double lumen was inserted into the abscess by interventional technique. Result A 100% success was obtained for the 15 patients with 18 abscesses by inserting the drainage catheters, and all the abscesses were cured 7~65 days after drainage. Conclusions Compared with the surgical or percutaneous drainage, the present method is less traumatic, safer, more economical and effective, and it could be applies to all kinds of postoperative intraperitoneal abscesses which could not been drained adequately or with formation of sinus because of displacement of drainage tube.

Objective To evaluate the effect of this neuroendocrine hormone on protein expression by treating the human dermal fibroblasts with a-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH ).Methods Thehuman dermal fibroblasts was cultured, and the total protein of the fibroblasts were separated with immobilized pH gradient-based two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE). After Coomassie bright blue staining, gel images were acquired by Image-scanner and then analyzed with the PDQuest software. 2-DE maps of fibroblasts were established. Partial differently expressed protein spots were incised from gels and digested by trypsin in-gel. Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS) and MSDB database searching by Mascot? software were used for protein identification. Results Well-resolved, reproducible 2-DE patterns of dermal fibroblasts treated with and without crMSH were obtained. 8 differently expressed protein spots were detected, among which 8 obtained peptide mass fingerprints (PMF) by MALDI-TOF-MS analysis. Among these proteins, of particular interest were five proteins annexin I, HSP27 and lamin A, etc. Conclusions Proteins expressed by human dermal fibroblasts treated with or without crMSH are different, and some of the differently expressed proteins involve apoptosis, intracellular signal transduction and framework construction and so on, which may be associated with anti-fibrosis effects of (a)-MSH on human dermal fibroblasts.

AIM: To investigate the effects of fenofibrate on angiotensin Ⅱ ( AngⅡ)-induced cardiomyocyte hypertrophy .METHODS:Primary neonatal cardiomyocytes were pretreated with fenofibrate (10μmol/L) for 1 h followed by stimulation with AngⅡ(100 nmol/L).The mRNA levels of ANF, BNP andβ-MHC were measured by real-time PCR. Western blotting was employed to determine the nuclear translocations of NFATc 4 and p65-NFκB.Co-immunoprecipitation was used to investigate the interaction of NFATc 4 with p65-NFκB in the nucleus of cardiomyocytes .In addition, the DNA binding activity of NFATc4 on the BNP promoter was determined by EMSA .RESULTS:Fenofibrate significantly inhibited AngⅡ-induced cardiomyocyte hypertrophy .Fenofibrate treatment inhibited the nuclear translocations of NFATc 4 and p65-NFκB, as well as the interactions of NFATc 4 with p65-NFκB in the nucleus of cardiomyocytes induced by AngⅡ.Fenofi-brate inhibited the binding activity of NFATc 4 with the BNP promoter , which was strengthened by AngⅡ.CONCLU-SION:Fenofibrate enhances the interaction of NFATc 4 with PPARα, decreases the interaction of NFATc 4 with p65-NFκB in the nucleus of cardiomyocytes , and inhibits the DNA binding activity of NFATc 4 induced by AngⅡ, which may be the important mechanisms of fenofibrate on inhibiting cardiac hypertrophy .
