Objeetive To analyze traffic accidents involving pedestrians in Chongqing from 2000 to 2006 so as to understand injury characteristics of the pedestrians. MethodsThe data of pedestrian road traffic crashes and injuries in three districts including one district in downtown, one in suburb and one in county of Chongqing from 2000 to 2006 were collected from road traffic crash and road traffic injury database to analyze severity of crashes, casualties, action and location of pedestrians in crashes. Results The road crashes led to 7 934 pedestrian injuries (24.74%) and 867 pedestrian deaths (49.46%).Intensity of the pedestrian road crashes in rural areas was higher than that in downtowns and suburbs.Of all pedestrian casualties,57.91% were due to illegally crossing the driveway, and 15.43% of the casualties were on the crosswalk. Most of the casualties occurred on the main roads, the third class highways and second main roads in Chongqing. But serious crashes occurred on the first and second class highways and substandard highways, which led to average 3.17,4.13 and 5.42 deaths, respectively.Pedestrians accounting for 52.46% of the total severe injuries were more than the proportion among the minor to moderate injuries.Head injuries were the most common for the pedestrians and chest injuries were also usual among the severe injuries. Conclusions The intensity of pedestrian road crashes is higher than that of other crashes, especially in rural areas. It should be noticed that the main injuries of the pedestrians are head injuries, which is mainly resulted from illegally crossing driveway. It is worth noticing that a rather high proportion of pedestrians are impaired on the crosswalks, indicating that we should pay more attention to protect right of the pedestrians on the crosswalks during transportation law enforcement and safety education in the future.

Objective To investigate the quality of life and its influence factors in patients with atrial fibrillation 3 months after catheter ablation. Methods From April 2014 to February 2016,AF patients who underwent single catheter ablation in our hospital were included. The quality of life was assessed by MOS 36 item short form health survey (SF-36), and the effect of related factors on QOL scores were further analyzed. Results There were no significant changes in quality of life at baseline and 3 months after catheter ablation including physical component summary (PCS) [(70.6±17.1) vs.(72.9±10.7),P =0.078]score, mental component summary (MCS) [(70.9±12.3) vs.(71.8±12.5), P =0.44] score and SF-36 score [(70.8±13.0) vs. (72.3±10.3), P=0.138]. Multivariate analysis indicated that there was negative correlation between patients who relapsed after ablation and better quality of life(PCS, β=―3.162, P=0.036;MCS, β=―5.675, P =0.001; total SF-36 score, β=―4.385, P =0.003), MCS score and warfarin use (MCS,β=―4.020,P =0.014). There was negative correlation between PCS score and smoking(PCS, β=―3.129,P =0.037).Conclusion All patients had stable quality of life in 3 months after catheter ablation. Ablation outcome was probably the main influencing factors. The use of dabigatran and smoking might also have effects on their quality of life.

Objective:To study the effect of microsurgery for parasellar menningiomas and to analyze the impact factors of recurrence. Methods:Clinical and follow-up data in a consecutive series of 134 patients with parasellar meningiomas were retrospectively analyzed. Results:A total of 109 patients (81.3%) had radical removal (Simpson grade I and II), and 116 patients were followed up for an average period of 81.6 months. The mean quality of life score (KPS) was 91.9, 90 patients regained full daily activity and 16 patients were able to take care of themselves. Oculomotor paralysis occurred in 7 patients, epilepsy in 8, and another 9 patients suffered hemispheral paralysis. Tumor recurred atfer the radical removal in 12 out of the 96 follow-up patients (12.5%). Tumor progressed atfer subtotal removal in 12 out of the 20 follow-up patients (60%). Tumor with cavernous sinus (CS) invasion had significantly higher risk of recurrence campared with non-CS invasion (P=0.043). The recurrence rate increased with the pathological grade (P<0.01). Conclusion:Patients with parasellar meningiomas undergoing microsurgical resection may have a good long-term function outcome. For most patients, total removal by microsurgery is the ifrst choice. Careful follow-up is needed if tumor invaded the CS and radiosurgery is proposed for WHO grade 1 and 2.

This study was aimed to explore the suppression of nitric oxide (NO) production in RAW264.7 cells by total lactones fraction from Andrographis paniculata. The inflammatory model in vitro was established by stimulating the RAW264.7 cells with lipopolysaccharide (LPS). The NO production and inhibitory rate were determined by Griess assay. Cytotoxicity was evaluated by MTT method. The results showed that total lactones fraction ofA. paniculata suppressed NO production in a concentration-dependent manner in the concentration range from 5 to 50μmol·L-1 and their IC50 values were 8.58μmol·L-1, 11.52μmol·L-1 and 8.94μmol·L-1, respectively. In this condition, major constituents were andrographolide (5-60μmol·L-1), dehydroandrographolide (5-100μmol·L-1) and neoandrographolide (5-100μmol·L-1) inhibited NO production in a dose-dependent manner with an IC50 values of 17.54μmol·L-1, 49.54μmol·L-1 and 41.80μmol·L-1, respectively. It was concluded that the NO inhibitory activity of total lactones fromA. paniculata was better than three active ingredients, which may be able to provide a theoretical foundation and scientific basis for the preparation and clinical application of total lactones fraction fromA. paniculata.

OBJECTIVE:
To study the clinical characteristics and operative effect of hippocampus lesions.
METHODS:
We retrospectively analyzed the clinical characteristics and operative outcome of 44 patients with hippocampus lesions between August 2005 and April 2010.
RESULTS:
Seizure attack was the initial symptom among 40 of the 44 patients. Pathological examinations revealed 18 gliomas, 9 cavernous malformations, 12 hippocampus sclerosis, 2 focal cortical dysplasia, 1 atypical hyperplasia, 1 injury glial scar, and 1 encephalomalacia. Thirteen patients received anterior medial temporal lobectomy and the other 31 received lesionectomy or selective amygdalohippocampectomy via transsylvian approach. An average of 15.7 month follow-up was accomplished in 37 patients. Postoperative epileptic outcomes were evaluated according to Engel classification: Grade I 73.0%(27/37), Grade II 13.5%(5/37), Grade III 10.8%(4/37) and Grade IV 2.7%(1/37). No perioperative death occurred. One patient experienced hemiplegia but recovered 8 months after the operation. Noticeable postoperative visual field deficit was left in 2 patients. Two patients with glioma died of remote tumor recurrence during follow-up.
CONCLUSION
Seizure attack is a major complaint of hippocampus lesions. Satisfactory seizure and tumor control may be achieved through anterior medial temporal lobectomy or selective amygdalohippocampectomy with lesionectomy.
