International Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2010;32(6):509-510
Objective To investigate the effects of Tangshukang liquid on the rate of diabetic foot amputation. Methods 80 patients with diabetic foot were divided into two groups (40 ones in each group) by single-blind method. On the basis of conventional treatment of controlling blood glucose, preventing infection, improving microcirculation and carrying out partial debridement for both groups, the treatment group was applied Tangshukang liquid (homemade) externally, and the control group was applied gauze of mixture liquid (gentamiycin+654-2+insulin) externally. Both groups were treated with 4 therapeutic courses (30 days equal one therapeutic course). Therapeutic effects were observed after the treatment. Results Amputation rate of diabetic foot was significantly reduced in the treatment group, especially the patients with wet gangrene. Conclusion Tangshukang Liquid can significantly reduce the amputation rate of diabetic foot and has good effect on diabetic foot with wet gangrene.

AIM: To evaluate the influences of triptolide on serum cytokines, symptoms and pulmonary function in patients with steroid - resistant asthma, so as to investigate if there is therapeutic effect of triptolide on these patients. METHODS: Sixteen patients with steroid - resistant asthma were randomly divided into two groups (A and B, n =8 for each group). All of the patients took procaterol (50 - 100 μg/d) and theophylline (400 mg/d) orally as baseline treatment. Additionally, triptolide was prescribed for group A (33 μg, orally, three times per day for 4 weeks). Asthmatic symptom score calculation, serum cytokines ( interferon - γ, IFN - γ; interleukin - 4, IL - 4; and interleukin - 5, IL - 5)determination and pulmonary function test (FVC%, FEV1%, PEF%, V50% and V25% ) were undertaken before and at the end of the study. RESULTS: At baseline, no significant difference was found between group A and group B with respect to the above mentioned indices. Following the administration of triptolide, group A had significantly increased serum IFN -γlevel, FVC%, FEV1%, PEF%, V50% and V25%, and significantly decreased asthmatic symptom score and serum IL-4, IL-5 levels (P<0.01 compared with baseline in the same group, and P<0.05 compared with group B at the end of the study). Compared with baseline, no significant change was observed for group B regarding all the indices at the end of the study. CONCLUSION: Triptolide in combination with procaterol and theophylline may be a novel and effective strategy for the treatment of steroid - resistant asthma.

Objective To investigate the effect and significance of early coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) on the expression level of nerve-related factor at infracted border zone (IBZ) in dogs with acute myocardial infarction (AMI).Methods The anterior descending coronary artery of all thirty dogs randomly assigned into experimental group(n =22) and control group(n =8)were ligated into MI model. The experimental group included those undergoing CABG 1(n =6),2 week(n =4),4 week(n =6)and 6 week (n =6) after MI,and control group(n =2) was established for every experimental group. We detected the local expression level of nerve-related factor such as GAP43 mRNA,NGF mRNA and SYN mRNA at normal myocardium and infracted border zone myocavdium by means of RT-PCR through thoracotomy at eight weeks after surgery. Results Four dogs of every experimental group and all dogs of control group survived to the end of the study. The local expression level of GAP43 mRNA,NGF mRNA and SYN mRNA in control groups was significantly higher than that in normal and experimental groups (P <0.01 ).The local expression level of GAP43 mRNA,NGF mRNA and SYN mRNA in 4 and 6 weeks bypass groups was significantly higher than that in normal and 1,2 weeks bypass groups (P <0.05).There was no statistically significant the expression level of SYN mRNA among all experimental groups (P > 0.05 ).Conclusions Early CABG surgery for AMI in dogs could lessen the expression level of nerve-related factor and the sympathetic remodelling at IBZ.Especially CABG surgery two weeks after MI could lessen the sympathetic maximacily.

The effects of R2O-Al2O3-B2O3-SiO2 system glass and superfine alpha-Al2O3 on the sintering and phase transition of hydroxyapatite (HAP) ceramics were assessed. The results showed that alpha-Al2O3 impeded the sintering of HAP and raised the sintering temperature. When glass and alpha-Al2O3 were used together to reinforce HAP ceramics, better results could be obtained; the bending strength of multiphase HAP ceramics approached 106 MPa when 10% (wt) alpha-Al2O3 and 20%(wt) glass were used and sintered at 1200 for 1 h.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2006;23(1):121-124
In this paper, alpha-tricalcium phosphate (alpha-TCP) and tetracalcium phosphate (TTCP) respectively were chosen as basic compositions of phosphate bone cements. Other auxiliary materials such as hydroxyapatite (HAP), dicalcium phosphate dihydrate (DCPD), calcium carbonate (CaCO3), calcium oxide (CaO) and amorphous calcium silicate (CaSiO3) were added in the cements. Six kinds of composite bone cements were decided with 1.50 as their Ca/P ratio. Then the primary properties of them were studied. Ringer's simulated body fluid (SBF) tests were carried out for the samples. The changes of pH value in SBF and the compressive strength of the samples with the immersion time were studied. The results showed: the mixing liquid 0.25 M K2HPO4/KH2PO4 and amorphous CaSiO3 were effective for accelerating the setting of the cements; the initial setting time (It) was about 4-5.5 min and the final setting time (Ft) was about 18-19. 5 min. Amorphous calcium silicate can increase the compressive strength of the bone cements remarkably; the compressive strength of the alpha-TCP bone cement with the addition of suitable amount amorphous CaSiO3 reached 45.3 MPa after immersion in SBF for 14 days.

Objective Infected pancreatic necrosis is a serious complication of necrotizing pancreatitis. A method of minimally-invasive retroperitoneal infected pancreatic necrosectomy using percutaneous nephroscope was evaluated. Methods 21 patients with acute pancreatitis were treated in our hospital from June 2008 to August 2009. Among 13 patients who developed infected pancreatic necrosis, 6 underwent percutaneous catheter drainage by CT guidance. Then retroperitoneal infected pancreatic necrostectomy using percutaneous nephroscope along the sinus tract were performed after drainage for 5-36 d. Results In these 6 patients, 3 received percutaneous nephroscopic treatment one time, 2 two times and 1 three times. There were no operative mortality and morbidity except that 1 patient developed pseudocyst 6 months after operation. Conclusion Retroperitoneal pancreatic necrosectomy by percutaneous nephroscope is a safe, feasible, minimally-invasive and efficient method for treating infected pancreatic necrosis when the indication and occasion are suitable. This method would be a valid therapeutic option for treating necrotizing pancreatitis. However, further evaluation is necessary.
