AIM: To investigate the therapeutic effect of Ligustrazine Hydrochloride Injection(LHI) plus Salvia miltiorrhiza Injection(SMI) and LHI plus Ginkgo leaf extract and Dipydamole Injection(GDI) in treating diabetic microalbuminuria. AIM: To investigate the mechanisms of Chinese herbal medicin e formulas (Qi-ling-tang, Ba-wei-di-huang-wan and Chai-ling-tang) in the p revention and treatment of diabetes. METHODS: Wistar rats were d ivided into five groups and treated with Qi-ling-tang (the group QLT), Ba-wei -di-huang-wan (the group BWDHW), Chai-ling-tang (the group CLT), water (the group model) and control, respectively. The rats in groups QLT through model we re injected with 30 mg?kg -1 /daily streptozotocin (STZ) for five days beginning on day 8. The glucose concentration, fructosamine, insulin, total-pr otein, albumin and the percentage of W3/25 and OX8 T-cells in serum as well as the body weight of the rats were measured. Tissue sections of paraffin-embedde d pancreas of the rats were observed after staining with HE, AZAN and immunohist ochemistry. RESULTS: After STZ injection, the diabetic incidence of the rats in groups QLT, BWDHW and CLT were significantly lower than that in the group model, especially in the group BWDHW was only 21% by study day 10. A significant decrease in blood glucose concentration was found in groups BWDHW (25%) and CLT (18%) from study day 15 to 26. The percentage of W3/25 cell s in groups QLT and BWDHW was higher than that in the control group. The averag e area of islets and the area of bate cells were greater in groups QLT, BWDHW an d CLT than in the group model. CONCLUSION: Three formulas retard the development of hyperglycemia of rats induced with multiple low doses STZ by increasing the cell mediated immunofunction. The formulas Ba-wei-di-huang-w an and Chai-ling-tang can reduce hyperglycemia.

To study the determination method of cholesterol in human serum by Coulometric titration. METHODS: The titration was carried out in an electrolytic solution containing 1 mol.L-1 potassium bromide and glacial acetic acid (1∶3). Bromine was electrogenerated at the anode and cholesterol reacted with bromine with a value of reactional electrons (n) as 2. RESULTS: The ranges of recovery for 0.115 mg to 0.459 mg of cholesterol were from 93.9% to 105%, and the average recovery was 100.3%. The relative standard deviation in all applied analysis was less than 1.5%. The accuracy of the method was also assessed in comparison with the results obtained by the enzymatic method used clinically. CONCLUSION: The method proposed is simple, rapid and accurate, and is suitable for the determination of cholesterol in human serum samples.

Objective To investigate the image characteristics and clinical application of 18F-FDG PET/CT in autoimmune pancreatitis (ALP).Methods The PET/CT images from six male patients (age ranging from 51 to 78(average 69) years) with AIP from 2005 to 2012 were studied retrospectively.Of the six patients,two had follow-up PET/CT images after steroid therapy.The morphologic abnormality was visually analyzed and SUV was calculated.Scores were obtained according to the SUV of pancreas compared with that of the liver (3 =SUV higher than liver,2=SUV similar to liver,1 =SUV lower than liver).The difference between the regular and delayed SUV was compared by paired t test using SPSS 17.0.Results All of the 6 patients showed diffuse FDG uptake in the entire pancreas with SUVmax of 3.2-6.0(5.2± 1.1).Five patients had score 3 and one had score 2.Five patients had delayed scan,of which 4 had increased uptake (SUVmax5.3-7.2),but the SUVmax was not significantly different compared to that before delay scan (4.8-6.0,t =-2.424,P＞0.05).Five patients showed extrapancreatic uptake,especially in the salivary glands.After the steroid therapy,the enlarged pancreas reduced and the intense uptake of the pancreas disappeared.The extrapancreatic uptake showed coinstantaneous remission.Conclusions Increasing FDG uptake at entire pancreas was observed in patients with AIP.18F-FDG PET/CT may be useful for detecting AIP and the associated extrapancreatic uptake,and monitoring the change after therapy,yet it needs further evaluation.

To study the therapeutic effect of the combination of orthodontics and fixed denture renovation preliminary in treating consecutive teeth loss. Before the fixing denture renovation,12 cases of consecutive teeth loss were treated to become interval teeth loss by using the orthodontic treatment. All patients received simultaneous functional and cosmetic restoration. The abutment teeth were healthy and the renovational teeth were stable. The combination of orthodontics and fixed denture renovation showed good effect in treating the consecutive teeth loss. It is a good clinical renovation. It is worthy to apply in clinic.

Objective To investigate the expressions of serum cystatin C CysC),retinolbinding protein (RBP),serum and urinary β2-microglobulin (β2-MG) and their effects on predicting renal damage in primary hypertension in elderly patients.Methods A total of 149 patients were divided into 3 groups of hypertension grade 1 (n =50),hypertension grade 2 (n =50) and hypertension grade 3 group (n=49).92 healthy controls who took physical examination were selected as control group.The levels of serum CysC,RBP,serum and uric β2-MG,blood urea nitrogen,creatinine and other biochemical indexes were detected.The complications of hypertension were observed.The differences in renal function indexes between groups and their correlations were analyzed.Results There were 86 cases with hyperlipidemia (57.7％),71 cases with atherosclerosis (47.7％),59 cases with type 2 diabetes mellitus (39.6％),56 cases with coronary heart disease (37.6％),and 49 cases with cerebral vascular disease (32.9％) in 149 hypertensive patients.The levels of serum CysC,RBP,serum and uric β2-microglobulin were increased in hypertensive patients as compared with healthy controls (P＜0.05 or 0.01),and the extents of increments in the above indexes were positively correlated with blood pressure level [CysC:(1.2± 0.5) mg/L,(1.7±0.6) mg/L,(2.2±0.9) mg/L;RBP:(53.1±10.2) mg/L,(65.2±16.3)mg/L,(75.8±17.5) mg/L;serum β2-MG:(2.7±1.5) mg/L,(4.0±2.1) mg/L,(4.9±2.0) mg/L;uric β2-MG:(178.3±73.9) ng/L,(237.9±78.6) ng/L,(277.5±87.5) ng/L;respectively,P＜0.05or 0.01].Conclusions Elderly hypertensive patients are complicated with a variety of diseases.The levels of serum CysC,retinol-binding protein,serum and uric β2 microglobulin have significant diagnostic values on renal impairment caused by hypertension,and can be considered as sensitive factors for early renal impairment in essential hypertension.

Objective To investigate the relation between a set of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) in core gene of HBV in chronic hepatitis B patients and HBV DNA levels. Methods PCR restriction fragment length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP) assay and restriction enzyme Tsp509I were adopted to determine HBV SNP in HBV core gene. Nucleotide sequences of core gene were determined using the dideoxy chain termination method. HBV DNA levels were quantitated with real-time PCR. Results Five typical RFLP patterns, RFLP-C, RFLP-D, RFLP-E, RFLP-G and RFLP-C/G mixture were found and the distribution of HBV RFLP patterns was as follows: C, 61. 5% ; D, 2. 6% ; E, 9.6%; G, 16.7%; C/G mixture, 9.6%. Five SNPs, A165T, A336C, A336T, T337C and T385C, were found to be associated with RFLP patterns change and only SNP A336C or A336T caused the substitution of Glu-83 with Asp in HBcAg. The serum HBV DNA levels in RFLP-C group were higher than that in RFLP-G (P =0. 02) and RFLP-C/G group(P = 0. 006) , respectively, furthermore, the positive rate of serum ALT in RFLP-C/G group was lower than that in RFLP-C, RFLP-E and RFLP-G group, respectively. Under the condition of HBeAg-positive, the serum HBV DNA levels in RFLP-C group were higher than that in RFLP-G (P = 0. 015) and RFLP-C/G group(P =0.008) , respectively. Conclusion PCR-RFLP used in this study can be adopted to determine HBV SNPs, not genotypes in Chinese patients with chronic hepatitis B. The serum HBV DNA level in RFLP-C group higher than that in RFLP-G or RFLP-C/G group maybe associated with amino acid mutation, Glu83 Asp.

Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of endourologic treatment of benign uret-erointestinal anastomotic strictures in patients with urinary diversion. Methods Nine cases of benign ureterointestinal anastomotic strictures with a length of 1-3 cm following radical cystectomy and uri-nary diversion accepted endourologic treatment. 8 cases were treated by antegrade percutaneous ap-proach, 1 case by retrograde ureteroscopic approach. The strictures received balloon dilation, and ure-teral stents indewelled. Results In a follow up of 0.5-5.0 years, 1 case received percutaneous ne-phrostomy for complete ureterointestinal anastomotic atresia and refused to open operation reconstruc-tion. 5 cases had no recurrence after 2-3 endoscopic sessions. 3 cases needed long time ureteral stents indwelled. Conclusion Endourological technique for ureterointestinal strictures following urinary di-version avoided the disadvantages of open operation.
