1.Artesunate reduces proliferation, interferes DNA replication and cell cycle and enhances apoptosis in vascular smooth muscle cells.
Journal of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (Medical Sciences) 2005;25(2):135-6, 177
This study examined the effect of artesunate (Art) on the proliferation, DNA replication, cell cycles and apoptosis of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). Primary cultures of VSMCs were established from aortas of mice and artesunate of different concentrations was added into the medium. The number of VSMCs was counted and the curve of cell growth was recorded. The activity of VSMCs was assessed by using MTT method and inhibitory rate was calculated. DNA replication was evaluated by [3H]-TdR method and apoptosis by DNA laddering and HE staining. Flowmetry was used for simultaneous analysis of cell apoptosis and cell cycles. Compared with the control group, VSMCs proliferation in Art interfering groups were inhibited and [3H]-TdR incorprating rate were decreased as well as cell apoptosis was induced. The progress of cell cycle was blocked in G0/G1 by Art in a dose-dependent manner. It is concluded that Art inhibits VSMCs proliferation by disturbing DNA replication, inducing cell apoptosis and blocking cell cycle in G0/G1 phase.

2.Diagnosis and treatment of extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma, nasal type
Chinese Journal of Clinical Oncology 2016;43(14):603-606
Extranodal natural killer (NK)/T-cell lymphoma, nasal type (ENKL) is an uncommon subtype of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, which is aggressive and has poor prognosis. ENKL occurs predominantly in the nasal cavity and less frequently in the skin and in the gastrointestinal tract. The pathology of this disease is characterized by vascular invasion and destruction. ENKL is strongly associated with the Epstein–Barr virus, which aids in the diagnosis of ENKL. The characteristic markers on the surface of an NK/T cell and the spe-cific genetic variations are also useful in the diagnosis. At present, the treatment of ENKL is still under discussion. Although radiothera-py combined with chemotherapy on patients with early-stage ENKL and L-ASP-based chemotherapy and hematopoietic stem cell trans-plant on patients with advance-stage ENKL have achieved favorable effects, further studies are still necessary to develop the principles and methods of a standardized treatment.

Objective To investigate the imaging feature of Chinese familial BCS, and to evaluate the efficacy of interventional treatment for Chinese familial BCS. Methods Angiography was taken in 4 familial BCS patients(from families A and B), and PTA was attempted in 2 of 4 patients, stents were placed in another 2 patients. Results Sisters in family A and sisters in family B had membranous obstruction of the inferior vena cava(MOVC) and segmental obstruction of the inferior vena cava(SOVC), respectively. PTA was attempted in younger sisters of the two families, stent was implanted in elder sisters of the two families. Patency of inferior vena cava and clinical symptom improvement were noted in 4 patients after interventional treatment. Restenosis was detected by angiography in sisters of family A after follow up 2 years later, and stenting was performed in the elder sister, PTA was performed in the younger sister once again. The elder sister was dead after the second stenting, and the younger sister had no symptom up to now. Sisters in family B had no restenosis after 4 years′ follow up. Conclusion 1.Lesion types of Chinese familial BCS were varied. 2.Vena cava thrombosis is the etiology of Chinese familial BCS .3.PTA, stenting and long time anticoagulation treatment may be effective methods in the treatment of familial BCS.

Chemical disinfectants are generally used for virus inactivation and environment disinfection in biosafety laboratory, and the efficacy and evaluation of the disinfection are critical to ensure the laboratory biosafety. However, there is a current lack of applied standard to evaluate the virucidal efficacy of chemical disinfectants in our country. In this paper, a European Union standard“Method and Requirements of Virucidal Quantitative Suspension Test Method for Chemical Disinfectants Used in Human Medicine” was analyzed and a standard transformation scheme has been proposed. It is suggested that the model viruses should be increased from 3 to 6, including the surrogate viruses to substitute highly pathogenic viruses, and that the method to remove the residual chemical disinfectant and the calculation of 95%confidence interval should be incorporated into the standard. The suggestion will improve the scientific and operational standards related to disinfection and sterilization in biosafety laboratory in China.

AIM: It is well known that different injuries will result in different consequences. In this paper, we investigated the morphological change of spinal cord following crushed, hemi-sectioned and transected injury. METHODS: Sixty Wistar rats were randomly divided into 4 groups: intact group, crushed spinal cord injury group (cSCI), hem-sectioned SCI group (hSCI) and transitioned SCI group (tSCI). The models of SCI were established by the method in our laboratory. The animals in each group were sacrificed respectively at 24 hours, 7 and 24 days after operation. The L2 spinal cord which located in the caudal of injury site was taken respectively from each animal in each group and sectioned into frozen sections (20 μm). The sections were stained by hematoxylin and observed under light microscope. The number of neurons in dorsal and ventral horn was also counted. RESULTS: In cSCI group, some neurons appear to atrophy compared with that of intact group, but the number of neurons did not decrease apparently than that of intact group (P>0.05). Comparatively, some cavities were observed in dorsal and ventral horn in hemi-sectioned and transitioned SCI group. And the number of neurons in dorsal horn and ventral horn decreased greatly at 24 hours, 7 and 21 days compared with intact group (P<0.05). The results indicated that the decrease of neuronal number in dorsal horn and ventral horn after injury resulted from hSCI and tSCI, but not from cSCI. As a result, some different strategies should be considered for different injuries. For example, some neurotrophic factors may be useful in cSCI, but, many neurons have disappeared following hSCI and tSCI, therefore, other strategies that increase the number of neurons should be considered too. CONCLUSION: Our results provide the important morphological evidences on the change of spinal cord following cSCI, hSCI and tSCI. The data will be useful in treatment of SCI in the future.
