Chemical disinfectants are generally used for virus inactivation and environment disinfection in biosafety laboratory, and the efficacy and evaluation of the disinfection are critical to ensure the laboratory biosafety. However, there is a current lack of applied standard to evaluate the virucidal efficacy of chemical disinfectants in our country. In this paper, a European Union standard“Method and Requirements of Virucidal Quantitative Suspension Test Method for Chemical Disinfectants Used in Human Medicine” was analyzed and a standard transformation scheme has been proposed. It is suggested that the model viruses should be increased from 3 to 6, including the surrogate viruses to substitute highly pathogenic viruses, and that the method to remove the residual chemical disinfectant and the calculation of 95%confidence interval should be incorporated into the standard. The suggestion will improve the scientific and operational standards related to disinfection and sterilization in biosafety laboratory in China.

Objective To study the impact of lung volume reduction surgery on inflammatory factors, pulmonary function and quality of life in patients with severe chronic obstructive pulmonary emphysema. Methods 57 cases patients with severe chronic obstructive pulmonary emphysema received lung volume reduction surgery from May 2009 to December 2013 were divided into observation group 32 cases and control group 25 cases, the control group were given open chest surgery, the observation group received video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery. Then compare the operation indicator, serum inflammatory factor content, pulmonary function and life quality score between the two groups. Results Operation indicators: Observation group: Intraoperative blood loss, thoracic drainage, hospital stay were significantly lower than that in control group (P< 0.05); Inflammatory factor: 3 d after surgery, observation group serum TNF-α, IL- 6, IL- 1 content were significantly lower than that in control group (P<0.05);Pulmonary function: 12 months after surgery, there were no statistical difference of FEV1, TLC, RV between two groups (P>0.05); SGRQ score: 12 weeks after the surgery, observation group respiratory symptoms, activity ability, disease im﹣pact, SGRQ total score were significantly lower than the control group (P< 0.05). Conclusion Video assisted tho﹣racic surgery helps to reduce surgical trauma, and alleviate inflammatory reaction, then improve the quality of life.

Objective To explore the relationship between obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) and metabolic syndrome (MS) in obese middle-aged and older men. Methods We selectively recruited 154 obese middle-aged and older men matched for body mass index (BMI) and age. The polysomnography was performed for diagnosing OSAHS and for discriminating disease severity. The BMI, waist circumference, blood pressure, plasma glucose and lipid profiles were measured and analyzed in all subjects. Appropriate statistical methods were used to compare the components of MS in each group. Logistic regression was taken to elucidate the relationship between OSAHS and MS. Results Compared to control group, severe OSAHS group had significantly lower high density lipoprotein cholesterol level [( 1.03 ± 0.29 ) mmol/L vs. ( 1.31 ± 0. 38) mmol/L,P<0. 05] and higher fasting glucose [(6.61±1.76) mmol/L vs. (5.47±0.64) mmol/L, P<0. 05]as well as higher systolic blood pressure [( 133 ± 13) mm Hg vs. ( 125 ± 12) mm Hg, P<0. 05] and diastolic blood pressure [(99±10) mm Hg vs. (80±5) mm Hg, P<0. 05]. The prevalence of MS was significantly higher in OSAHS group than in control group (mild OSAHS group: 25.7%,moderate OSAHS group: 46. 5%, severe OSAHS group: 84.4%, control group: 16. 1 %, all P<0. 01). OSAHS was independently associated with an increased prevalence of MS Odds ratio, 6.16).Conclusions OSAHS is independently associated with MS in obese middle-aged and older men.

Objective: To explore the effect of umbilical cord blood stem cell transplantation on axon regeneration in spinal cord injury (SCl)in rats. Methods: The umbilical cord blood was collected and prepared into suitable concentration of CD34 positive stem cells. Thirty SD rats were divided into two groups randomly. One group served as control, another one was the treatment group. The models of spinal cord contusion injury were made by Allen's weight dropping method. One week later, the treatment group was transplanted with 10x105 umbilical cord blood stem cells with Hamilton micro-syringe at the sites of rostral and caudal to the lesioned zone respectively, while control group received just the same volume of PBS injection. Five rats in each group were sacrificed at 1 w, 2 w and 6 w after this operation. Histological and immunohistochemieal examinations including GAP-43 and NF200 were used to evaluate axon regeneration. Meanwhile, BBB motion scoring and inclined plane test were performed to assess the motion function changes of hindlimbs. Results: Compared to the control group, the area of cavity in the lesioned spinal cord region decreased significantly and the expressions of GAP-43 and NF200 increased markedly in cell transplantation group. Also the motion function had better restoration in the treatment group. Conclusion: Transplantation of umbilical cord blood stem cell may achieve both morphological and behavioral improvement for the injured spinal cord.
