Journal of Clinical Neurology 1993;0(03):-
Objective To investigate the changes and significance of the levels of serum C-reactive protein(CRP) and S-100? protein(S-100?)in patients with progressive cerebral infarction(PCI).Methods 100 acute cerebral infarction(ACI) patients were divided into PCI group(38 cases) and non-PCI group(62 cases) according to the change of the neurological dysfunction scale score(SSS) within 7 d after onset. The levels of serum CRP and S-100? in the two groups were detected at the 1 d,3 d,7 d,14 d after onset, and the results were compared with normal controls(NC group). Results Compared with the non-PCI group, the levels of serum CRP and S-100? in the PCI group at every time points after onset were significantly increased(all P

Journal of Chinese Physician 2001;0(04):-
Objective To detect the expression of HER2 and TOPOⅡ? in human breast cancer to explore the relationship between them and the potential value in the chemotherapy of breast cancer. Method 24 breast cancer tissues and paired normal tissues were investigated. RT-PCR and imumohistochemical staining were used to detect the expressions of HER2 and TOPOⅡ? at the transcription and protein level respectively. Results HER2 mRNA expressed positively in 29% (7/24) breast cancer tissues vs 4% (1/24) in paired normal tissues. The positive expression of TOPOⅡ? mRNA in breast cancer tissues and paired normal tissues were 92% (22/24) and 21%(5/24) respectively. The result of the immunohistochemical staining showed that the positive rates of HER2 and TOPOⅡ? in breast cancer tissues were 30%(6/20) and 94%(16/17) respectively, which was consistent with RT-PCR. The 6 cancer samples with HER2 positive expression coexpressed TOPOⅡ?. The expression of these two proteins was correlated(R=0.524,P

Objective To compare the effects of different composite resins as core material on the degree of microleakage in post-core repairation. Methods A total of 46 recently extracted single-rooted mandibular premolars were distributed into different groups according to different core material including ParaCore,AP-X and Ceramage. Then we used direct or indirect forming method to make post-core restorations. All of the specimens were submerged in dyes. Then, they were demineralized, dehydrated and processed to be transparent. The extent of the dye leakage was examined under a stereomicroscope. Results The microleakage value was significantly higher in Group of direct-mold-cement with ParaCore (4.94± 1.71)mm than in Group of indirect-mold-secondary-cement with ParaCore (0.91 ± 0.33) mm,Group of indirect-mold-secondary-cement with AP-X (0.87 ± 0.27) mm,and Group of indirect-mold-secondary-cement with Ceramage (1.02 ± 0.34)mm.Conclusion Different methods of building and cementing FRC post-core restorations, but not different composite resins as core material, have significant effects on the extent of microleakage in post-core repair.

The advances of industrial biotechnology highly depend on the development of industrial bioprocess researches. In China, we are facing several challenges because of a huge national industrial fermentation capacity. The industrial bioprocess development experienced several main stages. This work mainly reviews the development of the industrial bioprocess in China during the past 30 or 40 years: including the early stage kinetics model study derived from classical chemical engineering, researching method based on control theory, multiple-parameter analysis techniques of on-line measuring instruments and techniques, and multi-scale analysis theory, and also solid state fermentation techniques and fermenters. In addition, the cutting edge of bioprocess engineering was also addressed.

Objective To compare the efficacy and safety of long-term treatment (48 weeks) with tiotropium bromide (5 μg) via Respimat(R) with placebo in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).Methods A total of 338 patients were randomized in this double-blind,placebo controlled, parallel study. All patients received either tiotropium bromide or placebo.Tiotropium bromide solution 5 μg (2 × 2.5 μg/puff) or matching placebo was delivered via Respimat(R) at a dosage of once daily for 48 weeks.Co-primary endpoints were trough forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) and the time to first exacerbation. Results Statistically significant improvements of both trough FEV1 and trough forced vital capacity (FVC) in the tiotropium group were achieved at weeks 4,24,and 48 compared with those in the placebo group(P < 0.000 1).Tiotropium treatment delayed the time to first exacerbation. The time was 157 days in the tiotropium group and 85 days in the placebo group.A statistically significant difference (P =0.002 7) in favor of tiotropium was also observed. The total numbers of exacerbation during treatment were 90 and 128 in the tiotropium and placebo groups, respectively. The Poisson regression analysis gave a mean exacerbation rate per patient year exposure of 0.67 in the tiotropium group compared to 0.98 in the placebo group with a rate ratio of 0.69 (95% CI O.50-0.93,P =0.016 4).A much larger improvement from baseline in St.George's respiratory questionnaire (SGRQ) total score was observed for the tiotropium group than in the placebo group(P =0.036 7),SGRQ symptom and activity scores of patients in the tiotropium group were also superior to those of patients receiving placebo. The drugs-related adverse events in the tiotropium and placebo groups were 12 cases and 11 cases, respectively. Conclusions Tiotropium significantly improved lung function and quality of life, delayed the time to first exacerbation, reduced the number of exacerbation.Overall, tiotropium was well tolerated.

3.0 cm in diameters.Contrast-enhancement CT showed tumors with abundant blood vessel,1 case appeared as uniform enhancement and was difficult to distinguish between tumor body and internal carotid and external carotid because of the iso-density of them.On MRI,the flow void blood vessels inside the tumors could be identified and internal carotid and external carotid separated.MRA displayed all the relation between the tumors and carotid and its branches.DSA could demonstrate the supply arteries of the tumors. Conclusion Ultrasonics,CT,MRI and DSA have own definitely characteristic value in diagnosing carotid body tumor.

Various functional proteins are differently expressed in each pathologic stage after spinal cord injury, representing injury and the pathological change of repair. Ideal biomarker is helpful to evaluate complicated biological reactions of spinal cord injury and predict prognosis. As specific serum markers of central nerve injury, neuron-specific enolase (NSE) and astrocyte primary calcium binding protein S-100β had been studied preliminarily, but the specificity and sensitivity need more research. Future efforts still need to develop ideal biomarkers to predict functional outcome.

[ Objective ] To observe the therapeutic effect of Bushen Huoxie Decoction (mainly composed of Radix Rehmanniae Preparata, Fructus Corni, Rhizoma Dioscoreae, Carapax et Plastrum Testudinis, Radix Polygoni Multiflori, Fructus Lycii, Radix Morindae Officinalis, Herba Cistanches, Rhizoma Acori Tatarinowii, Radix Polygalae, etc. ) for the treatment of vascular dementia (VD) . [Methods] Eighty cases of VD were randomized into two groups by using random number table: group A ( n = 40) was treated with modified Bushen Huoxie Decoction and group B (n = 40) with duxil and nimodipine. After a 3-month treatment, the therapeutic effect of the two groups was evaluated, and mini-mental state examination (MMSE), activities of daily life (ADL) and blood rheology before and after treatment were observed. [Results] The total therapeutic effective rate was 80.0% in group A and 57.5% in group B, the difference being significant ( P
