Objective: To study the relationship between human herpes vi rus 6 (HHV-6) infection and oral squamors cell carcinoma. Methods: The serum anti-HHV-6 antibody titers from 16 cases of oral squamors cell carcinoma (OSCC) and 16 control subjects were detected by indirect immunofluores cence assay. HHV-6 DNA in peripheral blood mononuclear cells was amplified by P CR and the specificity was confirmed by Southern-blot hybridization with an int ernal probe oligonuclotide. An immunohistochemical staining was used to detect H HV-6 antigen in OSCC tissues. Results: Positive expression of s erum HHV-6 IgG antibody was found in all the cases of OSCC and in 12 of the 16 controls. Geometric mean titer of OSCC group and control group was 1∶118 and 1 ∶64 respectively (P

OBJECTIVETo investigate anticancer effect and potential mechanism of tanshinone II(A) (Tan II(A)) on human nasopharyngeal carcinoma cell line CNE cells.
METHODAntiproliferative effect of Tan II(A) on CNE cells was evaluated by morphological examination, cell growth curves, colonial assay and MTT assay. Apoptosis detection was carried out using Hoechest 33258 and PI double-dyeing method. Intracellular Ca2+ concentration and mitochondria membrane potential were detected by fluorospectrophotometer. Bad and MT-1A transcript analysis in CNE cells was analyzed by real-time reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).
RESULTTan II(A) could inhibit CNE cells proliferation in dose- and time-dependent manner. 50% inhibiting concentration of Tan II(A) on CNE cells in 24, 48, 72 h was 45.7, 24.8, 3.3 mg x L(-2), respectively. Typical apoptotic morphology such as chromatin aggregation was observed in CNE cells with Tan II(A) treated for 24 h, and the apoptotic inducing effect was in a dose-dependent manner. After treated with Tan II(A), intracellular Ca2+ concentration of CNE cells was increased, mitochondria membrane potential of the cells was decreased, relative mRNA level of Bad and MT-1A was up-regulated.
CONCLUSIONTan II(A) had anticancer effect on CNE cells through apoptosis via calcineurin-dependent pathway and MT-1A downregulation.

The unbalanced economic development, the lifestyle changes of the residents, the aging before getting rich and the burden of non-communicable chronic diseases in China have brought great pressure on China′s health system. However, the prevention and control mechanism of chronic diseases in China is far from mature, which restricts the development of the prevention and control of chronic diseases in China. Singapore′s new concept on chronic disease management and the the 3-level theoretical framework are good experience in the world and deserve to be learned by China. This article introduced the Healthy Living Master Plan in health promotion practice in Singapore, and made suggestions on construction of health management system to cope with the disease burden in China.

OBJECTIVETo discuss the effect of modified double tracks anastomosis in patients with type Siewert II-III( adenocarcinoma of the esophagogastric junction(AEG) treated with radical gastrectomy.
METHODSClinical data of 763 patients with type Siewert II-III AEG undergoing radical operation in our department from January 2004 to December 2008 were analyzed retrospectively. Patients were randomized into 3 groups according to the different procedures modes: radical proximal gastrectomy with modified double tracks anastomosis(266 cases), radical proximal gastrectomy with esophageal gastric stump end-to-side anastomosis(252 cases), and radical total gastrectomy with esophageal jejunum Roux-en-Y anastomosis(245 cases). There were no significant differences in general information and biological characteristics among the 3 groups(all P>0.05). Radical degree, safety, quality of life and prognosis were compared among 3 groups.
RESULTSThere were no significant differences in postoperative complications among the three groups(P>0.05). Six months after operation, in modified double tracks anastomosis group, food intake recovery percentage was superior to the other two groups, and the Visick scores and endoscopic grading were better than esophageal gastric stump end-to-side anastomosis group(all P<0.05). There was no significant difference in recurrent rate of gastric stump between modified double tracks anastomosis group and esophageal gastric stump end-to-side anastomosis group(P>0.05). The 5-year overall survival rate of these 3 groups was 48.7%, 46.3% and 50.2% respectively, and no significant difference was found(all P>0.05).
CONCLUSIONModified double tracks anastomosis is an ideal surgical method for type II-III AEG.

OBJECTIVETo study the types of subspecies of Francisella tularensis from China and to investigate the genetic relationships between F. tularensis strains from China and from other countries.
METHODSTen strains of F. tularensis isolated from China were amplified by using typing primers C1/C4 and RD1. On the basis of the lengths of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) products, it was concluded that these strains of F. tularensis belonged to the same subspecies. At the same time, the fopA, tul4, and 16S rRNA genes of the 10 strains were amplified, and a three-gene based phylogenetic analysis was performed using the Molecular Evolutionary Genetics Analysis software version 4.0.
RESULTSThe 10 strains of F. tularensis from China were all identified as belonging to subspecies holarctica (type B). We found no direct relationship between the genotypes of F. tularensis subsp. holarctica and the geographical area from where they were isolated.
CONCLUSIONThe F. tularensis strains isolated from North China mainly belong to subspecies holarctica (type B). The strains of F. tularensis subsp. holarctica from China may have evolved earlier than those from Europe and North America.

Background:
and Purpose Intracranial vertebrobasilar atherosclerotic stenosis (IVBAS) is a major cause of posterior circulation stroke. Some patients suffer from stroke recurrence despite receiving medical treatment. This study aimed to determine the prognostic value of a new score for the posterior communicating artery and the P1 segment of the posterior cerebral artery (PCoA-P1) for predicting stroke recurrence in IVBAS.
Methods:
We retrospectively enrolled patients with severe IVBAS (70%–99%). According to the number of stroke recurrences, patients were divided into no-recurrence, single-recurrence, and multiple-recurrences groups. We developed a new 5-point grading scale, with the PCoA-P1 score ranging from 0 to 4 based on magnetic resonance angiography, in which primary collaterals were dichotomized into good (2–4 points) and poor (0 or 1 point). Stroke recurrences after the index stroke were recorded. Patients who did not experience stroke recurrence were compared with those who experienced single or multiple stroke recurrences.
Results:
From January 2012 to December 2019, 176 patients were enrolled, of which 116 (65.9%) had no stroke recurrence, 35 (19.9%) had a single stroke recurrence, and 25 (14.2%) had multiple stroke recurrences. Patients with single stroke recurrence (odds ratio [OR]= 4.134, 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.822–9.380, p=0.001) and multiple stroke recurrences (OR=6.894, 95% CI=2.489–19.092, p<0.001) were more likely to have poor primary collaterals than those with no stroke recurrence.
Conclusions
The new PCoA-P1 score appears to provide improve predictions of stroke recurrence in patients with IVBAS.
