1.Repair of articular cartilage injury using tissue-engineered cell transplantation
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2010;14(11):2010-2013
BACKGROUND:Simple medication therapy can not promote the healing of articular cartilage defects effectively;the insufficient sources of autogenous cartilage also limited cartilage transDlantation.OBJECTIVE:The types of articular cartilage injury and local micro-environment changes were analyzed to summarize the progress of tissue engineered seed cell transplantation and cell transplantation therapy for repairing articular cartilage injury.METHODS:The databases of PubMed database(http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez/)and CNKI(http://www.cnki.net/)were retrieved with the key words of"Tissue engineering, cell transplantation, articular cartilage defects",and the literature was limited to English and Chinese languages.Studies concerning articular cartilage injury or was closely related to tissue engineered seed cells transplantatiOn were included.Repetitive studies were excluded Survival and migration of seed cells,as well as the recovery of joint function and adverse reactions were served as evaluation index.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:A total of 201 literatures were seized by computers, according to the inclusion criteria, papers concerning tissue engineering cells for repairing articular cartilage injury were analyzed.Clinically, articular cartilage damage was commonly resulted by traumatic arthritis, which is difficult to repair due to the poor self-repair capacity of articular cartilage. The emergence of tissue engineered cell transplantation brought new hope for articular cartilage injury healing Cell transplantation has obtained good effects in articular cartilage repair, but the technology is still room for improvement. How to technically improve the tissue-engineered 3 elements, namely, cells, scaffold materials, and biological activity factors were the research focuses.Autologous cartilage regeneration was the theoretical support for articular cartilage defects repairing, which needs to optimize its regeneration and to maintain a more stable chondrocyte phenotype in further research The tissue-engineered cells had received good effects in repairing articular cartilage injury, and it is expected to be a new clinical treatment for articular cartilage injury with the in-depth study of tissue engineering.
3.Progress in Brain-computer Interface Based on Cortical Evoked Potential
Space Medicine & Medical Engineering 2006;0(01):-
Brain-computer interface(BCI) was a communication system that did not depend on the brain's normal output pathways of the peripheral nerves and muscles.BCI provided a new communication channel for the patients with severe neuromuscular disorders, and also had potential values in virtual reality, entertainment and aviation.Recently,BCI developed rapidly, and its researches mostly concentrated on feature extraction and translation algorithm.Cortical evoked potentials such as steady-state visual evoked potential(SSVEP) and P300 were widely applied in BCI because of simple feature extraction and requiring little training. The progress in SSVEP-based and P300-based BCI was reviewed, and its experimental paradigms and limitations were analyzed in this paper.

ObjectiveTo explore the relation of the expression of intron 9 in CD44 gene,nm23 gene and the serum levels of TGFα and TNFα to the development, metastasis and prognosis of epithelial ovarian cancer. Methods The expressions of intron 9 in CD44 gene, nm23 gene, TGFα and TNFα in epithelial ovarian cancer were measured by semi -quantitative RT - PCR, immunohistochemical technique and radioimmunoassay ( RIA ). Results There was positive expression of intron 9 in CD44 gene,nm23 gene,TGFα and TNFα in 36 cases of epithelial ovarian cancer. The higher levels of nm23 gene and TGFa were obvious in early stage of ovarian cancer. ConclusionTo study the ovarian cancers biologic behavior with these multipe factors can provide theoretical basis for early diagnosis, gene therapy and predicting prognosis.

Chinese Journal of Postgraduates of Medicine 2010;33(34):23-26
Objective To evaluate the effects of nutritional support combined with human growth hormone recombinant (rhGH) in patients with mechanical ventilation. Methods One hundred and fifty cases in ICU were randomized into test group (nutritional support combined with rhGH, 80 cases) and control group (nutritional support,70 cases). Both groups received calories according to Harris-Benedict formula [N, 0.25 g/(kg· d)]. In addition, the test group received subcutaneous injections of rhGH at a dose of 0. 1 U/ (kg· d) for 7 days. The different effects on nutritional status indexes, immunological function indexes and clinical indexes were compared. Results Compared with the control group, there were significant improvement in nutritional status indexes and immunological function indexes after the treatment of 7 days. The success rate of once weaning was higher in test group than that in control group. There were significant differences in the level of transferrin, prealbumin, CD3, CD4, NK between two groups [(3.0 ± 0.6)g/L vs. ( 1.9 ± 0.4) g/L, (226.46 ± 27.02 ) mg/L vs. ( 188.68 ± 17.27 ) mg/L, (53.8 ± 3.3 ) % vs. (47.4 ±4.1 ) %, ( 0.41 ± 0.14 ) % vs. (0.25 ± 0.05 ) %, ( 16.1 ± 2.1 ) % vs. ( 10.9 ± 3.0 ) %] ( P < 0.01 ). Conclusion rhGH combined with nutritional support has more effects on improving nutritional status compared with those of single nutritional support. It has significant adjustment effect on immunological function in patients with mechanical ventilation.

Objective To investigate clinical effects of neoadjuvant chemotherapy(NAC)for phase II B breast cancer. Methods From Jan.2002 to Nov.2004,330 female patients with phase II B unilateral breast cancer were enrolled in the study and they were randomly divided into 2 groups.Group A was NAC group and 152 cased were enrolled in this group, among whom 78 cases had left-side cancer and 74 cases had right-side cancer. The mean age of group A was 42.6 years(ranging from 32 to 73 years).Group A were given beth taxane-and anthracycline- based chemotherapy, according to the protocol of group A.After 4 cycles of chemotherapy, patients in group A underwent conservative breast surgery or radical mastectomy according to the result of chemotherapy.Group B,the non-NAC group, had 178 cases in it,among whom 98 had left-side cancer and 80 had rightside cancer. The mean age of group B was 41.4 years(ranging from 31 to 72 years).Group B also underwent conservative breast surgery or radical mastectomy according to tumor size and axillary node status.According to standards of International Union against Cancer(UICC),the primary focus and axillary node status in NAC group were analyzed before and after chemotherapy. Results Group A had a total effective rate of 91.45%.Breast conservation rate in group A and group B was 44.70%and 21.90%respectively.The overall 3 and 5 year survival rate in group A was 96.05%and 75.00%respectively.which was significantly higher than that in group B.Conclusion NAC is effective in reducing clinical stage of phase II B breast cancer, which increases breast conservation rate and postoperative survival rate.
