ObjectivetTo investigate the interleukin-16 (IL-16) mRNA expression and IL-16 secretion by peripheral blood mononucle-ar cells (PBMCs) of patients with lupus nephritis (LN) .Methods: 15 patients with active LN, 10 with inactive LN and 8 normal controls were included in the research. TTie supernatant IL-16 levels of freshly isolated PBMCs were measured by ELISA; the IL-16mRNA level were measured by RT-PCR.Results: As compared with the control group, both active and inactive LN patients had significantly increase in IL-16mRNA expression and IL-16 secretion, but didn't find the difference of IL-16mRNA expression between active and inactive LN groups. Conclusion: LN patients can endogeneous over-express IL-16 gene and abnormally produce IL-16 protein by PBMCs . IL-16 might play a role in the patho-genesis of LN.

Objective: To explore neural correlates for the recognition of facial expression videos using event-related functional magnetic resonance imaging. Methods:Thirteen right-handed healthy Chinese women underwent blood oxygen level dependent (BOLD) fMRI voluntarily while recognizing happy, sad, neutral emotional faces and fixation cross videos. Results:In comparison with fixation cross, recognition of neutral faces activated the left middle frontal gyrus, the bilateral precentral gyrus, the right amygdala, the left parahippocampal gyrus, the right postcentral gyrus and the left thalamus. In comparison of neutral faces recognition, the recognition of happy faces elicited increased activation in the right medial frontal gyrus, the right superior frontal gyrus, the middle frontal gyrus, the right anterior cingulated gyrus, the left subcallosal gyrus, the right superior occipital gyrus, the left middle occipital gyrus and the right superior temporal gyrus; while the recognition of sad faces activated the left medial frontal gyrus, the right middle frontal gyrus, the left inferior temporal gyrus and the left superior temporal gyrus. Conclusion:This study indicates that the recognition of facial expression is mediated by a distributed cortical network, and the medial frontal gyrus may be involved in discriminating different affective information, while the superior temporal gyrus may play an important role in processing the dynamic characters of face.

To develop a portable oxygen moisture bottle. The bottle adopted a double-tightened and separate structure, whose shell was made of transparent materials. The inner liner was made of PTFE hydrophobic mem-brane filter, which applied a 3-layer structure to inlet oxygen into the shell through the air membrane filter at all directions. The bottle had no requirements for site and high reliability, and the desired use for continuous oxygen inhalation was realized. The bottle has a simple structure, low cost, easy maintenance and high portability, and gains ad-vantages over the traditional one.

UNLABELLEDThis study was conducted to reconstruct three-dimensional medical images based on web and to achieve highly realistic display. Using the volume rendering techniques to reconstruct and display three-dimensional images in Java Applet program and utilizing signed Applets for solving security problem, We got two-dimensional images of human organs from ultrafast CT as sources and reconstructed the organs configuration of heart, coronary artery, head, cervical vertebrae, and pelvis. This reconstruction can be run in Web browser on different kinds of computers and for virtual surgical planning.
CONCLUSIONS1. Three-dimensional medical image reconstruction in Web browser implemented by Java Applet is feasible, which will prompt clinical use of three-dimensional images. 2. The solid conformation of human organs, especially the anatomic structure of the coronary artery, can be displayed by using three-dimensional reconstruction techniques, which may offer more information to clinics.

Background and purpose:miRNA plays important roles in tumorigenesis. It has been reported that many kinds of serum miRNA serve as markers for tumor diagnosis and screening. This study aimed to detect the expression of serum miRNA-31 (miR-31) in colorectal cancer patients and to explore the effect of miR-31 on cell proliferation, apoptosis and cell cycle distribution. Methods: The expressions of miR-31 in 40 cases of colorectal cancer serum and 35 cases of the healthy control were examined by real-time lfuorescent quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RTFQ-PCR). The correlation between miR-31 expression and clinicopathological features of colorectal cancer (including age, gender, depth of inifltration, lymph node metastasis, clinical stage) were further analyzed. The miR-31 mimics, inhibitor and miR-control (negative control) were transfected into HCT116 cells. The effect of miR-31 on cell proliferation was evaluated by CCK-8 method. Flow cytometry was used to examine the change of cell apoptosis and cell cycle. Results:Relative expression of serum miR-31 was signiifcantly increased in cancer patients compared with healthy controls (P<0.01). Expression of serum miR-31 was higher in poorly differentiated carcinoma than that in well or moderately differentiated carcinoma (P<0.05). No correlation was found between serum miR-31 expression and other clinicopathological variables. CCK-8 assay showed that after transfection with miR-31 mimics, the cell proliferation was increased, compared with miR-31 inhibitor and negative control group. Meantime, the apoptotic cell number was signiifcantly decreased, particularly in late apoptosis. The cell number of G1 stage was remarkably increased in miR-31 inhibitor group, compared with miR-31mimics and negative control group. Conclusion:The expression of serum miR-31 is higher in colorectal cancer. miR-31 can promote cell proliferation and inhibit the apoptosis of HCT116 cells. It might be a potential biomarker for colorectal cancer.

Objective To explore the effects of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) on ventricular arrhythmias resulted from acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in rats. Method Two hundred and forty male Wistar rats were randomized (random number) into sham operation group, AMI group and recombinant human tumor necrosis factor receptor (rhTNFR) fusion protein (Fc) group. Acute anterior wall myocardial infarction was produced in rats of AMI group with ligating the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) , and the rats were just operated without ligation of LAD in sham group. The rats of Fc group were treated with rhTNFR-Fc (10 mg/kg), a TNF-α antagonist, 24 hours before LAD ligation. The original ECG was recorded 10 min before ligation and the ECGs of ventricular arrhythmias occurred spontaneously or induced by programmed electrical stimulation were recorded 10 min, 20 min, 30 min, 60 min, 3 h, 6 h and 12 hours after ligation. The protein levels and mRNA expressions of TNF-α in rats in different groups were detected with histochemistry and real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR. Results The expressions of TNF-α mRNA and levels of TNF-α protein markedly increased 10 min after infarction, reached the climax 20-30 min later, and then gradually returned to the original level in AMI group and Fc group. The time-windows of spontaneous and induced ventricular arrhythmias were consistent with the time-window of expressions of TNF-α mRNA and levels of TNF-α protein. Compared with AMI group, there were lower levels of TNF-α protein and lower incidence of ventricular arrhythmias in Fc group ( P < 0.05) , but there was no significant difference in TNF-α mRNA between two groups. There was no obvious change in TNF-α in rats of sham operation group. Conclusions The expressions of TNF-α mRNA and levels of TNF-α protein induced by AMI could contribute the initiation of ventricular arrhythmias.

OBJECTIVE:To study the analgesic effect and mechanism of Gutongtie paste on model rats with formaldehyde-in-duced pain. METHODS:60 SD rats were randomly divided into blank group, model group,Gutongtie paste low-dose,medi-um-dose,high-dose groups(0.594,1.188. 2.376 g/paste,containing crude drug 0.48,0.96,1.92 g)and prednisone acetate group (ig,0.0054 g/kg,external bonding matrix). Model rats with pain was induced by formaldehyde method and immediately adminis-trated after modeling. Electronic tenderness instrument was adopted to determine the pain threshold of rats'ankle joint after adminis-tration of 1,2,3,4,6 h. After 6 h,blood sample 0.3 mL was taken from abdominal aorta then rats were sacrificed. Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was conducted to determine the β-endorphin (β-EP),prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) contents;spectrophotometry was used to determine nitric oxide(NO)content in rats'serum and inflammatory tissue;and radioimmunoassay was adopted to detect the substance P content in rats'serum, inflammatory tissue and brain tissue. RESULTS:Compared with be-fore modeling, pain thresholds in model group at each period were significantly decreased (P<0.05 or P<0.01). Compared with blank group,PGE2,NO of rats, substance P content in inflammatory tissue and brain tissue in model group were significantly in-creased (P<0.05 or P<0.01). Compared with model group, pain thresholds in Gutongtie paste groups at corresponding time points were increased,PGE2 and substance P contents in inflammatory tissue and brain tissue were decreased (P<0.05 or P<0.01);β-EP and NO contents in serum in Gutongtie paste medium-dose,high-dose groups(P<0.05 or P<0.01),NO contents in serum in Gutongtie paste high-dose group were decreased(P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS:Gutongtie paste has a certain analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect, and the mechanism may be related to reducing PGE2, NO, substance P contents, increasing β-EP content.
