BACKGROUND: Bracket dropping is often seen in clinic. Can these shed brackets be used again; what should be done to treat these brackets; is the bond strength of these recycled brackets different from those new ones, these questions are often concerned by orthodontists in their clinic and are the purpose of our study as well.OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the shear bond strength and compare two base-cure methods of recycled brackets. DESIGN: Grouping control study. SITTING: Department of Orthodontics, the Affiliated Hospital of Medical College, Qingdao University; Department of Materials, Dental School, Beijing University. MATERIALS: The teeth were collected from Oral Surgery, the Affiliated Hospital of Medical College, Qingdao University. The age was from 11 to 19 years. The gender was half male and half female. Intact enamel of the crown was required, but decayed, fracture, tetracycline pigmentation teeth or fluorosis teeth were excluded. Patients provided the confirmed consent for this experiment.METHODS: The experiment was carried out in Stomatology College of Peaking University in December 2005. Thirty ex vivo teeth were selected randomly from those prepared enamel surfaces, used as sample for rebounding. The edgewise brackets of swallow-tailed brackets were bonded on each tooth and rebonded after 24 hours. The teeth were cleaned and divided randomly into 3 groups. There were 10 teeth in each group. Group 1 was bonded with new brackets; group 2 with recycled brackets whose adhesive remnant were burned and got rid of; group 3 with recycled brackets whose adhesive remnant in the groove of the base were stored. Bracket was provided by Standard edgewise, Orsu Company, Hangzhou, China. After 24 hours, the shear bond strength was tested with material testing machine (Autogragh, Shimadzu, Japan). Adhesive remnant index (ARI) was added up. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Shear strength of old metal bracket after rebonding and adhesive remnant.RESULTS: ① Shear bond strength: The shear bond strengths were (10.094±3.158 9) in group 1, (10.266±2.406 0) in group 2 and (8.898±1.365 9) in group 3. There were no statistically significant differences among the three groups (P > 0.05). ② ARI scores: ARI scores were 51.7%, 58.3% and 35.0% in the three groups, respectively. There were statistically significant differences between group 2 and 3. CONCLUSION: In vitro study indicates that the recycled metal brackets can reach good bond strength and that maybe there is chemical bond between new and old adhesive.

Objective:To investigate the functions of the ITSN1-S SH3 domains in U87 glioblastoma cell proliferation and to de-termine the underlying molecular mechanism. Methods: A recombinant lentiviral vector with an mGFP label was constructed. EH1-EH2, EH1-EH2-CC, and ITSN1-S genes were amplified using polymerase chain reaction and then cloned into recombinant lenti-viral vectors. The four lentiviral plasmids were packaged using HEK 293T cells and subsequently used to infect U87 cells. Stable cells were screened using puromycin and separately labeled as vector/U87, EH1-EH2/U87, EH1-EH2-CC/U87, and ITSN1-S/U87. Western blotting was used to detect the expression of each protein. Proliferation and soft agar assays were performed to detect cell proliferation. Results:In the proliferation and soft agar assays, the proliferation capacity of the ITSN1-S/U87 cells was clearly enhanced compared with those of the vector/U87, EH1-EH2/U87, and EH1-EH2-CC/U87 cells (P<0.05). Moreover, the proliferation capacity of the latter three groups showed no observable difference (P>0.05). On the 6th day, the vector/U87, EH1-EH2/U87, EH1-EH2-CC/U87, and ITSN1-S/U87 cell numbers were (29.16 ± 1.19) × 104, (22.82 ± 0.94) × 104, (22.17 ± 0.90) × 104, and (21.93 ± 1.15) × 104, respectively. On the 21st day, the number of colony formation in vector/U87, EH1-EH2/U87, EH1-EH2-CC/U87, and ITSN1-S/U87 was (6.37±0.41)×103, (2.65±0.34)×103, (2.23±0.31)×103, and (2.1±0.29)×103, respectively . Conclusion:ITSN1-S overexpression significantly promotes U87 cell proliferation. Specifically, the SH3 domains possibly serve vital functions in glioma cell proliferation.

Objective:To revise the Chinese version of the Effort-Reward Imbalance for Learning Scale (LE-RIS)and examine its validity and reliability. Methods:Totally 230 middle school students from Shaanxi Province were recruited for the preliminary survey of the LERIS (214 valid questionnaires). The formal LERIS was set through item analysis and exploratory factor analysis. Then,5 10 middle school students from Shandong and Shaanxi Province were selected to complete the formal LERI for the confirmatory factor analysis and the Internal consistency analysis. The Study Stress Questionnaire for Middle School Students (SSQMSS )were selected as the criterion measurement which to examine the association between study stress and effort-reward imbalance. Test-retest relia-bility were examined by 260 participants random selected after one month. Result:The Chinese version of the LERI with 10 items had 3 dimensional structures, which were effort, reward and overcommitment. Confirmatory factor a-nalysis showed that the Chinese version of the LERI had good structure validity (RMSEA=0. 0,NFI=0. 901,CFI=0. 910,GFI=0. 905,PGFI=0. 521). The Cronbach's αcoefficients were 0. 86 to 0. 89 for the three subscales, and the test-retest reliability coefficients were 0. 63 -0. 7 1 for the three subscales. Conclusion:It suggests that the Chinese version of the Effort-Reward Imbalance for Learning (LERI)is a reliable and valid assessment and couldbe used as an effective and reliable tool for assessing academic pressure of middle school students in china.
