Objective To evaluate the clincopathological presentation of eosinophilic gastroenteritis(EG). Methods Seven patients with EG were studied. their clinical manifestation, laboratory tests, endoscopy, treatment and prognosis were analyzed from the hospital records. Results (1) The patients of predominant mucosal type were presented with abdominal pain and diarrhea, and those of serosal type with abdominal pain and bloating. Some accompanied with nausea, vomiting and low fever.(2) Peripheral and bone marrow eosinophilia were presented in all seven patients. Eosinophil counts waxed and waned with symptoms and dramatically responsed to steroid therapy.(3) ESR, C-reactive protein and fibrinogen were in normal range, and the level of IgG was decreased.(4) The ascites were exudative with eosinophilia.(5) Some patchy lesions such as erosion and edema in antrum, duodenum and cecum were presented in endoscopy.Biopsy showed predominant eosinophil infiltration in mucosa.(6) It responsed to steroid therapy, and all symptoms and eosinophilia would be relieved within one week.(7) Symptoms may relapse but with good prognosis. Conclusion Eosinophilic gastroenteritis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of unexplained gastrointestinal symptoms especially in the presence of peripheral eosinophilia. Mucosal biopsy would be helpful to establish the diagnosis.

Objective To investigate whether the genetic variant rs10830963 of melatonin receptor 1B(MTNR1B)gene is associated with increased risk for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).Methods Eighty-seven GDM subjects(GDM group)and 91 normal pregnant women (control group)were randomly recruited form Women and Children's Hospital of Quzhou,Zhejiang Province,China. The allele and genotype frequencies of the rsi0830963 in MTNR1B gene were determined in all participants with PCR amplification and DNA sequencing. The allele and genotype frequencies of rs10830963 were compared to determine their differences between GDM subjects and normal controls. In addition, multiple linear regression was conducted to investigate the association patterns of the risk allele with fasting glucose and HbAlc levels. Results Both GG genotype and G allele frequencies of the rs10830963 loci in the GDM group were significantly higher than those in the controls, and women with G allele and GG genotype were associated with increased GDM risk(OR=1.53,95% CI:1.005-2.324,P=0.047 and OR=2.16,95% CI:1.052-4.434,P=0.034 respectively). After adjusting for age, body mass index before pregnancy, and family history of diabetes mellitus, women carrying GG genotype still had a higher GDM risk(OR =2.07,95% CI:1.048-4.372,P =0.022).Multiple linear regression showed that the rs10830963 G allele was positively correlated with higher levels of fasting glucose(0.068 mmol/L,P=0.015)and HbAlc(0.073%,P=0.028).Conclusions Genetic variant rs10830963 in MTNR1B gene may contribute to the susceptibility to GDM in Chinese population and the rs10830963 G allele is a risk factor for the GDM susceptibility.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the correlation between vascular endothelial function and aortic compliance in patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS) and hypertension. METHODS A total of 103 OSAHS cases were divided into simple OSAHS group(n=55) and OSAHS complicated with hypertension group(n=48, OSAHS+HT group). 20 patients with simple hypertension were included into the hypertension group, and 20 healthy people served as controls. Vascular endothelial function was evaluated by detecting flow mediated dilation of the brachial artery(FMD) with color Doppler; the changes of aortic compliance in patients were detected by echocardiography. RESULTS The FMD, aortic tension and aortic distensibility index levels of OSAHS with hypertension group were significantly lower than the normal control group, hypertension group and OSAHS group(P<0.05); The aortic stiffness index level of OSAHS hypertension group was significantly higher than the normal group, the high blood pressure group and OSAHS group(P<0.05); Analysis of Spearman correlation coefficient of patients in OSAHS with hypertension group found aortic FMD were positively correlated with aortic stiffness index, negatively correlated with aortic tension index and aortic expansion; The aortic FMD, aortic tension, swelling index and aortic stiffness index in OSAHS hypertension group had positive correlation with AHI (P<0.05), and negative correlation with LSaO2(P<0.05). CONCLUSION OSAHS is associated with vascular endothelial dysfunction and decreased aortic compliance. When combined with hypertension, vascular endothelial function and aortic compliance will be significantly affected. The severity of OSAHS was closely related to the decrease of vascular endothelial function and the changes of aortic compliance.
