1.Wilson’s disease in Asia
Neurology Asia 2011;16(2):103-109
Wilson’s disease is an autosomal recessive disorder of copper metabolism. The resultant accumulation
of copper primarily damages the liver and brain, resulting in hepatic, neurological and psychiatric
symptoms. There have been many recent studies advancing the understanding of Wilson’s disease in
Asia. There are indications that the incidence of Wilson’s disease in parts of Asia may be relatively
high. Many genetic studies have identifi ed various hot spots in theATP7B gene in a variety of the Asian
populations. Screening of these hotspot mutations may thus be useful in confi rming the diagnosis.
Despite the advances in treatment, lack of familiarity by the health care profession resulting in late
diagnosis, and poor access to treatment particularly among those from the developing economies
remain areas of major concern.

BACKGROUND:Due to the differences of sport events and individual metabolic characteristics of athletes, it is difficult to establish uniform biological indexes for training monitoring. Current individual evaluation is a longitudinal analysis relying on experience or numerical variation width, which is less objective.OBJECTIVE: To explore the individual function assessment and monitoring by monitoring blood biochemical indexes and brain function indexes in elite gymnasts, in order to accurately reflect the body changes resulting from training loads. METHODS:Thirty gymnasts from the Chinese national gymnastics team preparing for London Olympic Games were enroled in this study and monitored from the last winter training until the London Olympic Games. The blood biochemical indicators and brain function indicators were measured and assessed individually according to according to the principle of quality control (alert value=mean±SD, and controled variable=mean±2SD). RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Under the relatively uniform test conditions, it is feasible to individualy assess the blood biochemical and brain function indexes of elite gymnasts in accordance with the principle of quality control, which is more accurate and objective to reflect the body changes under training load and the current state of athletes. In addition, the combined monitoring of blood biochemical indexes and brain function indexes is more comprehensive to evaluate the body function and status of elite gymnasts.

BACKGROUND:Metabolic characteristics of the 800 meters race is not very clear, which creates a lot of obstacles for the exercise training of 800 meters race. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the characteristics of material and energy metabolism of 800 meters race, to improve the scientific training of the 800 meters race and to verify the feasibility of nuclear magnetic resonance-based urine metabonomics in sports training monitoring. METHODS: Seven middle distance athletes were subject to an 800 meters race at ultimate intensity, and their urine metabonomics analysis was conducted in combination with the Human Metabolism Database and other databases before and after exercise. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:OPLS-DA model showed that the metabolic samples before and after movement presented the cluster-like distribution. The change was mainly caused by the folowing metabolites, including leucine, lactic acid, creatinine, succinic acid, hypoxanthine, and adenosine. Through the analysis we could infer that the 800 meters race is a sport event mainly dependent on glycolysis for energy supply, working together with raw phosphate and aerobic oxidation for energy supply. The amino acid metabolism and methane metabolism of the athletes were more vigorous after 800 meters running, and moreover, there were certain oxidative stress during the 800 meters race. These findings indicate that nuclear magnetic resonance-based urine metabonomics takes the advantages of invasive, high sensitivity, less sample requirement, simple processing.

As one branch of epigenetics, the sirtuins family ( ClassⅢ histone deacetylase) receive much attention in recent years. SIRT1 as the most famous of the sirtuins family members has been verified involved in a variety of age-related diseases. While the SIRT1 formation is paid more and more attention in age-related cataract. Now, we briefly overviewed the research progress on the role of SIRT1 in age-related cataract.
6. Protective effect of autophagy on pancreatic β cells: Research advances
Journal of International Pharmaceutical Research 2015;42(4):447-452
The development of diabetes is associated with parasecretion of insulin resulting from the mass loss and dysfunction of β-cell in pancreas. Autophagy is a process of high conservation, which can improve β-cell function impaired by inflammation, oxidative stress, and endoplasmic reticulum stress. That is beneficial to delaying the progression of diabetes. Thus, in this review we summarize the definition of autophagy, autophagy related proteins and modulation of autophagy signaling pathways, the protection of autophagy on the structure and function of β-cells, as well as autophagy in β-cells with inflammation, oxidative stress and endoplasmic reticulum stress.

objective To explore the role of cytokines and dendritic cells (DCs) in rat high-risk corneal allograft survival pro- longed by superantigen Staphylococcal Enterotoxin B (SEB) and to compare the different effects between SEB and glucocorticoid. Design Experimental study.Participants Fisher 344 and Lewis rats. Methods The Fisher 344 and Lewis inbred rats were used for high-risk penetrating keratoplasty model. All of the Lewis rat recipients were divided into three groups by blinded fashion.GroupⅠand GroupⅡrats were injected intraperitoneally with 0.2ml saline buffer or SEB (75?g/ml) respectively at 4-day intervals on three occasions before transplantation.GroupⅢrats were injected subconjunctivally with 0.1ml dexamethasone (1mg/ml) daily from the first day after surgery for 2 weeks. The allograft survival was examined under slit-lamp.The concentration of interleukin IL-1?,IL-2,IL-4,IL-5,IL-6, IL-10,TNF-?in rat aqueous humor and peripheral blood were measured by liquichip and the cytokine and CD11c,CD80,MHC-Ⅱex- pression in corneal grafts were examined by immunohistochemestry staining.Main Octcome Measures Mean survival time of the allo- grafts, the level of cytokines in aqueous humor, peripheral blood and corneal grafts. Results Compared with group control, the grafts mean survival time was delayed about 3.8d in group SEB (P=0.00) and 7.1d in group dexamethasone(P=0.01).But there was no signifi- cant difference between group SEB and dexamethone (P=0.26).Liquichip test showed that the level of IL-1?in aqueous humor was re- duced and IL-4,IL-6 and IFN-?,ascended.Only IFN-?,and IL-6 could be found in peripheral blood, and the changing shift of them was similar to that in aqueous humor. The immunohistochemistry staining showed that the expression of IL-2 in rat corneal grafts was signif- icantly decreased but IL-4,IL-6 and IL-10 elevated. The expression of DCs in group SEB was similar to that in group control, which was elevated after keratoplasty, but the phenotype of DCs was not the same. There were predominantly mature DCs in group control while immature DCs in group SEB.Conclusions The immunological inhibiting effect of SEB is same to glucocorticoid, but the mecha- nism is different.SEB can modulate immune response, which might induce immune inhibition via the local production of cytokines and effect on DCs maturation involving corneal graft rejection prevention.
