?AlM: To evaluate the relationship of early-life and childhood exposures and age-related cataract ( ARC ) , and provide a scientific evidence for early preventing, treating and detecting ARC.
?METHODS: A hospital-based case control study was conducted from April 2011 to October 2012. A total of 360 cases ( 360 eyes ) aged 41 ~ 60 years old for cataract extraction and 360 frequency-matched controls in the same hospital for various not related to ARC were included in the study. A structured interviewer -administrated questionnaire that included information on sociodemographic characteristics, early - life and childhood exposures was used. The risk factors of ARC were estimated with unconditioned logistic regression models.
?RESULTS:Early gestational age at birth sooner and lower birth weight was significantly associated with the risk of ARC(OR=1. 152,95%CI:1. 029~2. 235,P=0. 024;OR=1. 374, 95%CI:1. 156 ~2. 581,P=0. 037,respectively). The maternal pre-pregnancy diabetes ( OR=1. 587, 95%CI:1. 177~2. 915,P=0. 019),gestational diabetes (OR=1. 763, 95%CI:1. 375 ~ 2. 367,P= 0. 004), preeclampsia(OR=1. 581, 95%CI: 1. 139 ~1. 996,P=0. 021), and pregnancy induced hypertension (OR=1. 517, 95%CI:1. 032~1. 963,P=0. 024) could make the risk of ARC increased. Of the factors affecting the period of children, only shorter height relative to peers and overweight at age 10 were significantly associated with the risk of ARC( OR=1. 329, 95%CI:1. 072~2. 351,P=0. 038;OR=2. 302, 95%CI:1. 323~3. 196,P=0. 011, respectively).
?CONCLUSlON:Early gestational age at birth, low birth weight, the maternal pre - pregnancy diabetes, gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, and gestational hypertension, and shorter height and overweight relative to peers, at age 10 were risk factors of ARC. But lasted long large and prospective studies are needed to insure early risk factors for ARC in the Chinese population.

Objective To study the mRNA expression of HS1-associated protein X-1(Hax-1),an an- ti-apoptosis genc,in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMC)of patients with systemic lupus erythe- matosus(SLE),and further investigate the roles and significance of Hax-1 in the pathogenesis of SLE.Meth- ods Generation of longer cDNA fragments from serial analysis of gene expression(SAGE)tags for gene identi- fication(GLGI)was applied to identify the gene Hax-1 according to the Long SAGE tag.Then reverse tran- scription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR)technique was used to semiquantitatively analyze mRNA ex- pressions of Hax-1 in PBMC from 34 active SLE patients and 25 healthy subjects.Results Compared with healthy controls,there was significant difference between SLE patients in the active stage and the normal controls(Z=-4.556,P＜0.01).The average level of mRNA expression in active SLE group was higher than that in healthy controls.Significant difference was found between the group with mild SLE and either the moderate or the severe one(P＜0.01).Conclusion The mRNA expression level of Hax-1 in active SLE group increase markedly,and to some extent,it is related to the activity of SLE.This provides a valuable basis for the further study on the role of apoptosis in SLE.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the impact of tumor size on the prognosis of patients with colon cancer.

METHODSThe clinicopathologic factors of 345 cases who underwent curative surgery for colon cancer from January 2004 to June 2008 in the Peking University Cancer Hospital were analyzed retrospectively. The optimal cut-off value was determined by receiver-operator characteristic (ROC) analysis.

RESULTSThe overall 3-year survival rate was 85.1%. The optimal cut-off value was found to be 5.0 cm. The survival rate of patients with tumor size ≥5 cm and tumor size <5 cm was 79.5% and 90.5% respectively, and the difference was statistically significant(P=0.005). Multivariate analysis showed that preoperative CEA level (P=0.004), tumor size(P=0.020), regional lymph node metastasis(P=0.000), and lymphovascular invasion(P=0.002) were independent prognostic factors. Tumor size was significantly associated with overall survival in univariate and multivariate analyses in stage III( disease (P=0.011), but not in stage II( disease(P=0.827) using 5 cm as a cut-off.

CONCLUSIONSTumor size of 5 cm is an independent prognostic parameter for patients with stage III( colon cancer but not for stage II(. Determination of the association between tumor size and survival should be base on TNM staging.

With the development of tumor immunology research, it has been recognized that the anti-tumor immune system function is better to predict the prognosis. Relationship between the tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL) and colorectal cancer has become one of the hot topics in research. Here we summarize the latest studies about the relationship between the TIL and clinicopathological factors, prognosis and microsatellite instability (MSI).

Abstract: Objective To follow up and evaluate the stability testing status of γ stereotactic radiotherapy system (hereinafter γ knife WS 582-2017 Specifications for Testing of Quality Control in X and γ referred to ) in medical institutions based on the RayStereotactic Radiotherapy System WS 582-2017 Methods (hereinafter referred to ). A total of 43 medical institutions using γ knife and 54 medical physics personnel were recruited as the research subjects by random sampling method. Based on the - - standard tracking evaluation method, we followed up the evaluation of γ knife stability testing based on WS 582 2017. Results - Only 66.7% of the 54 subjects preformed WS 582 2017 in their daily work. Only 30.2% (all were tertiary hospital) of 43 medical institutions were equipped with complete quality control and testing equipment. The implementation rate of γ knife stability test was 67.4%, and it was not carried out in strict accordance with the test events and test cycle requirements - specified in the WS 582 2017. There were incomplete test events, incomplete records or test cycles that did not meet the Conclusion standard requirements in γ knife stability test. Medical institutions did not carry out γ knife stability tests in strict - accordance with the projects and cycle required by the WS 582 2017. The reasons are related to medical institutions are not equipped with complete testing equipment, the personnel are lack of understanding of relevant national standards, the poor publicity and implementation of the standards, the lack of standardized training channels and inadequate health supervision.

The study was purposed to investigate the differentiation ability of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) into myocardial cells in vitro. Rat bone marrow-derived MSCs were labeled and co-cultured with neonatal rat cardiomyocytes (CM) for 5 - 7 days. The expression of cell surface antigens was detected by flow cytometry, and the expression of muscle-specific marker myosin and troponin T in labeled cells was detected by immunofluorescence. The results showed that in vitro cultured MSCs expressed CD90, CD44, CD105, CD54, not expressed CD34, CD45, CD31. After co-cultured with neonatal rat CM, labeled MSCs differentiated into cardiomyocyte-like cells expressing myosin and troponin T. It is concluded that MSCs can differentiate into cardiomyocyte-like cells when co-cultured with neonatal myocardial cells in vitro. In co-culture of two kind of cells in ratio of four to one showed obvious efficacy differentiating MSCs into CMs.

OBJECTIVETo introduce a new technique for reduction mammaplasty appropriate to moderate or heavy hypertrophic breast.

METHODSThe superior-lateral dermo-glandular pedicle flap including the nipple-areola complex was created. After the extra glandular tissue was removed, the superior-lateral dermo-glandular pedicle with the nipple-areola complex was rotated, adjusted, sculptured and fixed to the thoracic wall so as to fashion a breast with natural projection and proper shape. This method was used in 4 patients(8 breasts).

RESULTSThe operation results were satisfactory without complications. The breasts maintained nice configuration and good function, with well lactating in one case.

CONCLUSIONThe technique of reduction mammaplasty with the superior-lateral dermo-glandular pedicle is a reasonable method to obtain nice breast configuration and good function.

To study the optimal examination method of CD62P and CD63 and investigate platelet activation in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM), whole blood labeled directly with monoclonal antibodies CD62P and CD63 and flow cytometry were used to evaluate the positive percentages and the mean fluorescence intensity of CD62P and CD63. The specimens of peripheral blood obtained from 10 healthy adults were divided into two groups. In the unfixing group, the positive percentages of CD62P and CD63 at the periods of 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes after staining were (7.57 +/- 2.33)%, (20.50 +/- 5.70)%, (28.70 +/- 5.67)% and (36.52 +/- 6.13)%, and, (0.89 +/- 0.36)%, (1.11 +/- 0.84)%, (2.35 +/- 2.02)% and (5.43 +/- 3.66)% respectively, their respective MFI were 1.57 +/- 0.13, 1.88 +/- 0.08, 2.00 +/- 0.09 and 2.38 +/- 0.22 and 3.91 +/- 0.11, 4.07 +/- 0.16, 4.38 +/- 0.14 and 4.44 +/- 0.19. However, in fixing group with 1% paraformaldehyde, the results had not any obvious change and almost were same. Besides it, the positive percentages of CD62P and CD63 in 37 adult patients with DM were (14.11 +/- 6.68)% and (2.71 +/- 1.74)%, significantly higher than that in the normal controls. It is concluded that the CD62P and CD63 on platelet membrane were very sensitive and would be easily activated in vitro, all manipulations that includes labeling with antibody, incubation and detection using flow cytometry should be finished within 30 minutes after samples collected. While fixing by using 1% paraformaldehyde can steady the labeling compounds and effectively prevent the artificial activation of platelet, and keep the stable results within two hours after the samples labeled. In adult patients with DM, the relationship between the cardiovascular complication of diabetes and platelet activation might be existed.

OBJECTIVETo study the effects of potassium salts on direct induction of microtubers from different explants in Pinellia ternata.

METHODLeaves, petioles and tubers were cut and cultured on the medium with different kinds of potassium salts and plant growth regulators.

RESULT AND CONCLUSIONLow concentration of potassium salts, which were lower than 4.02 mmol x L(-1), could promote the microtuber formation in vitro. While high concentration of potassium salts, which were more than 12.06 mmol x L(-1), inhibited the formation of microtubers.
