Journal of Applied Clinical Pediatrics 2006;0(14):-
Objective To explore the clinical value of respiratory index(RI) and oxygenation index(OI)dynamic monitoring in neonatal respiratory distress syndrome(NRDS) during mchanical ventilation. Methods According to prognosis,24 newborns with NRDS who had not be treated with pulmonary surfactant in NICU of Chengdu maternal and child health hospital from Dec.2006 to Nov.2007 were divided into 2 groups. There were 16 newborns in survival group and 8 newborns in death group. The changes of RI,OI,p(A-a)(O2) and pa(O2) were stu-died at 2,24,48 h after using of synchronized intermittent mandatory ventilation and before ventilation weaning. Results In the early periods, there were significant differences in RI,OI and p(A-a)(O2) between the survival group and the death group(t=2.47,2.62,3.01 Pa

Objective: To evaluate the initial pain and influential factors in orthodontic treatment by VAS(visual analogue scales),and explore the way to alleviate the pain. Methods:107 subjects(47 male and 60 female) were selected. Following insertion of the first archwire (0.36 mm Chinese NiTi wire), visual analogue scale(VAS) was used to record the severity of pain at 4,12,24 h and on day 3,5,7. All the subjects were randomly divided into two groups by ligature with elastomeric rings (in 51 patients) or stainless steel wires (in 56 patients). In all the 107 patients, 30 people need to extract their tooth for relieving crowding while the other 77 were non-extraction cases. Results:No significant differences of pain were found between elastomeric rings ligature cases and stainless steel wires ligature cases at each stage; as well as between extraction and non-extraction cases. But the adults perceived more pain than the adolescents. Patients who were asked to chew gum or to do something (watching TV or listening to music) for distraction perceived less pain. The differences were statistically significant between different groups. Conclusion:The orthodontist should make a good communication with patient about initial pain before the orthodontic treatment, especially for adults.

It was difficult to prepare traditional Chinese medicine pellets due to the adverse characteristics of the herbal extract. In this study, Danshen extract (DS) powder mixed with different proportions of microcrystalline cellulose (MCC), lactose and starch were made into pellets by extrusion-spheronization. Particle size, span, bulk density, tapping density, compressibility, Hausner ratio and angle of repose were used to evaluate the micromeritic properties of mixing powders. Feret diameter, aspect ratio, yield, density and friability were used to evaluate the properties of the pellets. The correlations between micromeritic properties of raw material powders and the formability of their pellets were analyzed by cluster analysis, principal component analysis and partial least squares regression analysis. As a result, the particle size of the powders was negatively correlated with the size, density, yield, and was positively correlated with the friability of their pellets. The span, density, compressibility and angle of repose of the powders were positively correlated with the size, density, yield, and were negatively correlated with the friability of their pellets. So there were certain correlations between the micromeritic properties of raw material powders and the properties of their pellets prepared by extrusion-spheronization. This research provided a foundation for the technology and method of traditional Chinese medicine extract pellets.

China Biotechnology 2006;0(10):-
Quantitative proteomics is a novel subject of proteomics research. There are several new techniques employed for the protein quantitative study. Isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation (iTRAQ) technology for protein quantitation using mass spectrometry is a recent powerful means of determining relative and absolute protein levels in up to four samples simultaneously. The iTRAQ reagent produced high quality, reproducible result in enriched complexes, organelles, and whole cell lysates. The status of the recent promising techniques and their possible future evolution were reviewed.

RhoA, a small GTPase, is involved in a wide array of cellular functions in the central nervous system, such as cell motility, cytoskeleton rearrangement, transcriptional regulation, phagocytosis and cell growth. It is not known how spinal cord injury (SCI) affects the expression of RhoA in different nerve cells. In the present study, we investigated the changes of RhoA expression in remote areas of the injury at the 3rd, 7th and 30th day after SCI, which was established by T10 contusion method. Moreover, we examine its expression profile in neurons, astrocytes and microglia. RhoA was found to be weakly expressed in these nerve cells in normal spinal cord. Western blotting showed that, after SCI, the total RhoA expression was up-regulated, and the RhoA expression was increased and peaked at the 7th day. Double immunostaining revealed specific and temporal expression patterns of RhoA in different nerve cells. The expression of RhoA in neurons started to increase at day 3, peaked at day 7 and then decreased slightly at day 30. Expression of RhoA in astrocytes increased moderately after SCI and peaked at day 7. There was no obvious change in RhoA expression in microglia after SCI in remote areas. This study demonstrated that, after SCI, RhoA expression exhibited different patterns with different nerve cells of spinal cord. RhoA expression patterns also changed with time after SCI, and among different nerve cells in the injured spinal cord. These findings can help us better understand the roles of RhoA in SCI.

Objective To study the effect of intensive trunk muscle training on balance and walking in pa- tients with hemiplegia caused by stroke. Methods A total of 90 stroke patients were recruited and randomly divid- ed into a treatment group(45 cases)and a control group(45 cases). All the patients were given conventional reha- bilitation training.Meanwhile, intensive trunk muscle training was also administered for those in the treatment group as well. The trunk control function, balance ability and walking ability were assessed by using the trunk control test, Berg Balance Scale and the balance subscale of the Fugl-Meyer physical performance test, and Holden's functional ambulation classification, respectively, before and after 6 weeks of training. Results It was found that all the pa- tients scored better with the trunk control test,Berg's balance scale, the balance subscale of the Fugl-Meyer physical performance test and Holden's ambulation classification after treatment, and there were significant differences between the two groups after treatment(P

Objective:To analyze the activities of human NKG2D ligand MICA/B promoter induced by 5-Fu.Methods:The 5'-end flanking regions of MICA /B promoter and their different truncated fragments were amplified from A549 genome by PCR. The resulting amplicons were cloned into pGL3-Basic vector to generate the MICA/B luciferase reporter plasmids. All the constructs were transiently transfected A549 cells. The promoter region activities were determined by dual-luciferase reporter assays. The effect of 5-Fu on the promoter activities of MICA/B was also tested. Results and Conclusion:The 5'-end flanking regions of MICA /B promoter and five of their different truncated fragments were successfully obtained. The normalized luciferase reporter gene activities driven by the above promoters and fragments were 3.61,2.26,1.63,0.313,0.711 and 0.663 for MICA and 17.49,10.11,7.398,0.822,0.997 and 0.49 for MICB,respectively. Promoter activities in transiently transfected A549 cells treated by 20,40,80,160 and 320 μg/m of 5-Fu increased 1.69,1.48,1.62,1.55 and 1.78 fold for MICA and 1.44,1.87,1.38,1.19 and 1.25 fold for MICB. Our results suggest that 5-FU can significantly up-regulate the promoter activity of both MICA and MICB.
