High-speed counter-current chromatography (HSCCC) was used to high performance separate and prepare lignans from Schisandrae chinensis fructus. The solvent system is composed of n-hexane-ethyl acetate-methanol-water (9 : 1 : 5 : 5) and n-hexane-ethyl acetate-methanol-water (9 : 1 : 9 : 5), speed is at 900 r.min-1, and flow rate is at 2.0 mL.min-1. Five fractions from Schisandrae chinensis fructus extract were separated and prepared with one HSCCC process. They were identified as schisandrin, gomisin J, schisandrol B, schisantherin A and deoxyschizandrin by electrospray ionization-multiple tandem mass spectrometry (ESI-MSn), respectively. Their contents were obtained in 98.74%, 94.32%, 99.53%, 94.23% and 98.68% by ultra high performance liquid chromatography (UPLC), separately. The rapid and simple method can be applied for the preparation of lignans from Schisandrae chinensis fructus.

The traditional Chinese medicine of Radix Hedysari plays an important role in invigorating gas for as-cending, benefiting blood for promoting production of fluid, and promoting circulation for removing obstruction in collaterals, which is consistent with the principle of treatment for osteoporosis. This study is designed to investigate the bioactive components on increasing peak bone mass (PBM) by exploring the spectrum-effect relationship between chromatography fingerprints and effect. Multiple indicators are selected to evaluate the pharmacological activity. In fingerprints, 21 common peaks are obtained, five of which are identified. Furthermore, gray relational analysis (GRA) is a quantitative method of gray system theory and is used to describe the correlation degree of common peaks and pharmacological activities with relational value. 21 components are then divided into three different regions, of which ononin and calycosin play an extremely significant role in increasing PBM. In addition, factor analysis and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) are used to screen the optimal producing area for Radix Hedysari. This provides a comprehensive and efficient method to improve the quality evaluation of Radix Hedysari, confirming the bioactive components for PBM-enhancement and further develop its medicinal value.

To develop a new small molecular probe for discovering an antitumor lead compound from the replacement of carboxylic group of two molecular antibacterial fluoroquinolones with a heterocyclic ring, a series of the C3/C3 bis-fluoroquinolones tethered with an 1, 3, 4-oxadiazole ring were synthesized as their respective HCl salts, and their structures were characterized by elemental analysis and spectral data. The in vitro antitumor activity against L1210, CHO and HL60 cell lines was also evaluated via the respective IC50 values by methylthiazole trazolium (MTT) assay.

Chinese Journal of Stomatology 2006;41(10):618-620
OBJECTIVETo assess occlusal balance of normal occlusion in intercuspal position with maximal bite force.
METHODSMaximal bite force was recorded in intercuspal position by use of T-Scan II system from 123 subjects with normal intact dentitions. Occlusal balance of normal occlusion was quantitatively analyzed from center of force, percentage of bite force, and occlusal contacts.
RESULTSThe relative position of the center of bite force, the difference in bilateral force percentage, and unsymmetrical coefficient followed normal distributions. The 95% reference ranges for corresponding testing items were -6.60 to 6.68 mm, -15.50% to 12.10%, and 0.65 to 1.39. There was no statistic difference (P = 0.915) in occlusal contacts between left and right sides. The 98.4% of normal occlusion subjects had the center of bite force locating in posterior region of dentition when biting with maximal force in intercuspal position.
CONCLUSIONSOcclusal balance could be evaluated by T-Scan II system. Occlusion of normal subjects biting with maximal force was stable and bilaterally balanced in intercuspal position.

Chinese Journal of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine 2002;22(8):581-583
OBJECTIVETo explore the cause and pathogenesis of migraine based on TCM theory and modern researches to seek for new thinking and effective drugs in treating migraine.
METHODSNinety patients with migraine were divided into three groups, the treated group treated with Shutianing Granule (STNG) 9 g, three times a day, the control A group treated with composite Yangjiao capsule, 5 capsules each time, three times a day and the control B group treated with flunarizine hydrochloride capsule, 5 mg, once a day. The treatment lasted for 28 days to observe the degree, lasting time and frequency of pain attack, and the headache index was calculated. Transcranial Doppler examination, serum beta evoked potential (beta-EP) and neuropeptide (NPY) determination were also performed before and after treatment. In the experimental study, effect of treatment of cerebral NPY and beta-EP were tested in SD rats with chronic pain in the treated or the control groups.
RESULTSIn the treated group, the markedly effective rate was 56.67% and the total effective rate was 90.00%, significant difference was shown in comparison with those in the control B group (P < 0.05), but with no difference in comparison with those in the control A group. Cerebral beta-EP level was raised and plasma NPY level was lowered in all the three treated groups. Compared with the normal saline group, there was significant difference (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONSTNG could improve the cerebrovascular function effectively, raise plasma beta-EP level, lower plasma NPY level and alleviate vascular tension in patients with migraine.

West China Journal of Stomatology 2006;24(2):104-109
OBJECTIVETo study the expression of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) in dental pulp tissue and to find out the relationship of distribution and function of HO-1.
METHODS30 pulp tissues were obtained from clinically extracted human healthy premolars and third molars. The expression of HO-1 in dental pulp was detected by means of SABC immunohistochemical technology.
RESULTSHO-1 immunoreactivity was observed in vascular endothelial cells, odontoblasts and some fibroblasts cells.
CONCLUSIONThe distribution of HO-1 in normal human dental pulp suggests that HO-1 may play an important role in pulp flow regulation, dentin production and its calcifying; it also may play some roles in dental pulp cells metabolism and differentiation.
