Twelve cases of Bartter's syndrome were reported and reviewed retrospectively.Usually vomiting was the first sympton in children, while fatigue was common in adults.Bartter's syndrome was characteristic of hypokalemia, metabolic alkalosis, elevations of plasma renin activity, serum angiotersinⅡand aldosterone and juxtaglomerular apperatus hyperplasia.Supplementation of potassium choloride was the main manner of therapy.

Objective To observe the effect of Kangnaoye on angiogene-sis in rats after focal cerebral ischemia reperfusion. Methods The male SD rats were randomly divided into 6 groups: sham operation group , model group, Kangnaoye high, middle and low dosages groups (24,12,6 g· kg -1· d-1), and nimodipine group(1 mg· kg -1· d -1).The mod-els of cerebral ischemia reperfusion were established in rats by methods of middle cerebral artery occlusion ( MCAO).Immunohistochemical method was used to observe the change of the microvessel density ( MVD ) after cerebral ischemic and the expression of vascular endothelial growth ( VEG), HGF and CD31 protein of rats which were killed at the 0.5, 3, and 7 d of reperfusion injury respectively 2 h after cerebral ischemia. The nervous function deficit scores were evaluated at the 2 , 24 , and 48 h af-ter reperfusion. Results Compared with model group , the neurological behavior performance in Nimodipine and Kangnaoye treatment groups were significantly improved , with an increased number of MVD , and en-hanced vascular endothelial growth factor ( VEGF) and hepatocyte growth factor( HGF) protein levels ( P<0.05 or P<0.01 ) , especially in the Kangnaoye middle dosage group. Conclusion Kangnaoye has neuropro-tective effect against focal cerebral ischemic injury by improving the ex-pression of VEGF and HGF , which is one of possible anti -ischemic mechanisms.

Objective To explore whether chlamydia pneumoniae(CP) infection causes the coronary artery morphology change in children and their reciprocity. Methods Serum immunoglobin M(IgM) and immunoglobin G(IgG) antibody to CP were detected by enzymelinked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) in 52 hospitalized children aged 1 month to 10 years and 5 months old in respiratory ward in our hospital, serum interleukin-6(IL-6),triglyceride(TG) and peripheral blood C-reactive protein(CRP) were also determined, morphology change of coronary artery of the patients were harvested by colored doppler echocardiogram. Results In the 52 cases,21 cases were positive of IgM,28 cases were positive of IgG,3 cases were positive both IgM and IgG.Twelve cases were high of CRP,5 cases were high of IL-6,9 cases were high of TG.In the 52 patients, the different levels of IgM,IgG,IL-6,CRP and TG had not coronary artery morphology change. Conclusion CP infection in the children does not cause the coronary artery to occur morphology change.

The yeast Sacchromyces cerevisiae is most widely used for producing bioethanol in alcoholic industry due to its higher ethanol yield and fermentation rate. However, the toxic effect of accumulated ethanol is one of the main factors, which limit high ethanol production. Thus, investigating the mechanisms of yeast ethanol tolerance will provide the basis for solving the industrial problem. This article reviewed the mechanisms of Sacchromyces cerevisiae ethanol tolerance focusing on its cell physiological behaviors, structure and biochemical composition, as well as its genetic basis.

Objective To investigate the house air pollution and its influence on the patients with perennial allergic rhinitis. Methods The method of case control study was used in 2001-2002 23 patients with perennial allergic rhinitis selected as the case and 23 normal as the control house dust mites in particular D.pteronyssinusDp and D.farinaeDf fungus bacteria was detected. Results The allergic skin test of dust and acarid were both positive among the patients with perennial allergic rhinitis. The colony of fungi in the house of patients was 917?668 cfu/m3 that of bacteria was 2 679?1 723 cfu/m3 Dp was 0.72 ?0.29100 IU/ml and Df was 0.61?0.34100 IU/ml in houses-dust compared with the control no significant deferences had been seen. Conclusion The patients with perennial allergic rhinitis are susceptible to the allergens in house dust mites.

Objective To investigate the clinical and radiological features of the patients with cryptogenic stroke as the first manifestation of pulmonary arteriovenous malformation (PAVM),and to explore the mechanism and summarize the diagnostic strategy. Methods Transcmnial Doppler (TCD) bubble tests,non-contrast or contrast-enhanced transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography,contrast-enhanced thoracic CT and pulmonary angiography were performed in 2 patients with cryptogenic stroke for the detection of right to left shunt (RLS) and the diagnosis of PAVM.Then interventional catheter embolization of PAVM and postoperative follow-up were arranged. Results TCD bubble tests in these 2 patients showed the following characteristics indicating RLS:spontaneous continuous shunt at rest, earlystage shunt appeared rapidly after injection, considerable large amount of shunt volume as a shower of microbubble, the extent of shunt volume not attenuated by Valsalva Maneuver (VM).One patient was diagnosed as PAVM,the other was PAVM plus patent foramen ovale (PFO).Both patients of PAVM were successfully treated with interventional catheter embolizations. Then TCD bubble test was repeated and showed significantly decreased amount of RLS.They remained asymptomatic during the 3-year and 1-year follow-up.Conclusions In patients with cryptogenic stroke due to suspected paradoxical embolism,TCD bubble test should be performed for screening RLS.Besides PFO,a traditional access to intracardiac shunt,PAVM should be considered as a new access to extracardiac shunt in paradoxical embolism.

The GFP(green fluorescence protein)-streptavidin(SA) bi-functional fusion protein was generated and characterized in order to demonstrate novel platform for efficiently and durably modifying the cell surface with SA-tagged bi-functional proteins. The GFP-SA/pET24d construct was generated and expressed in BL21(DE3) host bacteria at the high level. The recombinant protein GFP-SA was purified through the Ni-NTA affinity chromatography, and then refolded. After biotinylation B16 tumor cells were modified with GFP-SA bi-functional fusion protein and then subjected to fluorescent microscopy and FACS analysis. The effect of surface modification on the viability and growth of B16.F10 tumor cells was evaluated by MTT staining. The GFP-SA recombinant fusion protein was expressed in BL21(DE3) at about 20 % of total bacterial proteins. The GFP-SA bi-functional fusion protein exhibited the bi-functionality,i.e.,SA-mediated high-affinity binding to biotinylated cell surfaces and GFP-emitted green fluorescence. The cell surface modification with GFP-SA bi-functional fusion protein did not affect the viability and growth of the modified B16.F10 tumor cells significantly. The GFP-SA bi-functional fusion protein was obtained and could be displayed efficiently on the surface of the biotinylated B16.F10 tumor cells through the specific and tight interaction between streptavidin and biotin, thus can be used as good trace protein and experimental control in the development of surface-modified tumor vaccine.
