Angiogenesis is a fundamental physiological and pathological process in human body.Angiogenesis is regulated by integrins,a family of cell surface receptors. After binding with their ligands such as extracellular matrix proteins and immunoglobulin superfamily molecules, integrins can promote the proliferation and migration of endothelial cells during angiogenesis.Several integrin-targeted therapeutic agents are currently used in clinical trials for the therapy of angiogenesis related diseases. Here, there will show the roles of integrins in angiogenesis and clinical application.
4.The research progress in induced pluripotent stem cell in ophthalmology
Chinese Journal of Experimental Ophthalmology 2012;30(7):662-666
The establishment of induced pluripotent stem cells(iPSCs)has been a major breakthrough in the field of stem cell research since 2006,and it made possible for the use of stem cells in treating retinal degenerative diseases.Research showed that fibroblast,B lymphocytes, neural stem cells, hair corneous cells, pancreatic cells, mesenchymal cells of umbilical cord stroma and amniotic membrane can be reprogrammed as iPSCs,and they are capable of differentiating into specific types of cells. Some novel developments in iPSCs study in ophthalmology also were observed over the past few years.Induced iPSCs can differentiate into retinal pigment epithelial cells, photoreceptors and other retinal cells, which lay a foundation for the therapy of retinal degenerative diseases.Differented from traditional treatment of stem cells, the generation of iPSCs makes it possible to utilize somatic cells derived from patients for stem cell therapy without provoking ethical and immunological problems. The generation of iPSCs,the current research about iPSCs in the ophthalmic field, the limitations of iPSCs in the clinic and their future development and application were reviewed.

· AIM: To investigate the complications of intravitreal triamsinolone acetonide (TA) injection in vitrectomy for proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR).· METHODS: From February 2005 to January 2007, 18patients (18 eyes) with PDR who were injected with TA in vitrectomy were observed retrospectively after surgery.· RESULTS: During a postoperative follow-up period of 3 to 6 months (mean 4.6 months), some complications including deposit of TA granules on the macular region and surface of the retina (3 eyes), postoperative vitreous hemorrhage (3eyes), elevated intraocular pressure (2 eyes) and pseudohypopyon (1 eye)were observed.· CONCLUSION: The complications after surgery such as deposit of TA granules on the macular region and surface of the retina and pseudohypopyon could be cured without any special treatment. All eyes with elevated intraocular pressure after surgery were controlled by drug. Re-operation may be an effective method for patients with unabsorbable vitreous hemorrhage after vitrectomy.

Journal of Applied Clinical Pediatrics 2006;0(14):-
Phosphatase and tensin homologue deleted on chromosome 10(PTEN) is a tumor suppressor which can inhibit proliferation and migration and control apoptosis in a number of cell types, mainly through inhibiting the phosphoinositide 3-kinase(PI3K) signaling pathway.A number of in vitro and in vivo studies has been instrumental in uncovering a direct correlation between deregulated PTEN/PI3K signaling and changes in neuronal morphogenesis, which is likely to have profound bearings upon the pathogenesis of neurological symptoms. This review outlines recent work on the function of PTEN during the formation and maintenance of neuronal circuits in the brain.

AIM: To investigate antioxidative and antinitrosative effects of volatile oil from A.longiligulare T.L.Wu on dextran sulfate sodium(DSS)-induced ulcerative colitis mice. METHODS: Balb/c mice were fed with 4% DSS solution for 7 d to induce ulcerative colitis.Using biochemical method, the activity of antioxidative enzyme SOD,MDA and NO were determined in normal, model,SASP and three mouse's groups with low, moderate and high volatile oil from A.longiligulare T.L.Wu respectively. At the same time, the activity of iNOS was also measured by immunohistopathology. RESULTS: The concentration of MDA and NO were reduced and SOD increased significantly in high-and moderate-volatile oil groups compared with those in the model group. The activity of iNOS was reduced significantly in high-and moderate-volatile oil groups compared with those in the model group. The results demonstrated that the expression of iNOS was significantly inhibited in DSSinduced ulcerative colitis mice after being treated with high or moderate-dosage volatile oil. CONCLUSION: Volatile oil from A.longiligulare T.L.Wu has antioxidative and antinitrosative effects which may be one of the mechanism for treating UC.
