Objective To evaluate the value of endometrial volume measurement and 3-dimensional power Doppler imaging(3D-PDI) in the differentiation between endometrial polyps and endometrial hyperplasia. Methods One hundred and fifty-six women who diagnosed as thick and inhomogeneous endometrium or hyperechogenic focal intrauterine structures by 2D ultrasound were enrolled, including 50 patients with endometrial polyps in the proliferative phase,51 cases with hyperplasia and 55 cases with normal histology or others. All were scheduled for hysteroscopy, dilatation and curettage, and the ultrasound was performed within 24 hours before the procedure. Endometrial volume, vascularity index (VI), flow index (FI) and vascularity flow index (VFI) were measured. These parameters were compared between endometrial polyps group and endometrial hyperplasia group. Results These parameters (endometrial volume,VI,FI and VFI) were all considered statistically significant between two groups. Conclusions Endometrial volume and 3D-PDI are good diagnostic tools in the differentiation between endometrial polyps and endometrial hyperplasia.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease, which is characterized by synovial inflammation. Hyperplasia sublining macrophages found in synovium is an early hallmark of RA and effective treatment results in their diminution. However, the origin of these sublining macrophages in synovium (including infiltrated macrophages and tissue-resident macrophages) are still unknown both in animal models of arthritis and RA patients, let alone the differences and feature of these macro?phages. In rheumatic synovium, macrophages are submitted to a large variety of micro-environmental signals which influence the phenotypic polarization and activation of macrophages. Understanding the mechanisms and functional consequences of the heterogeneous macrophages will contribute to confirm their potential role in synovial inflammation development. Furthermore, research on macrophage plasticity to soft-control their phenotypic polarization could lead to novel therapeutic approaches.

Background and purpose:Pterostilbene is a natural antioxidant, whose role in retinoblastoma remains unclear. The aim of this study is to probe the effects of pterostilbene on the proliferation, apoptosis and autophagy in retinoblastoma WERI-Rb-1 cell lines. Methods:Cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assays were used to analyze the effects of pterostilbene on the proliferation of WERI-Rb-1 cells. Apoptosis rate was determined by Annexin V/PI. Autophagic vacuoles were observed by acridine orange staining. LC3 and P62 protein expressions were determined using Western blot. Results:Pterostilbene significantly inhibited the proliferation of WERI-Rb-1 cells (P<0.01). The cell viability were (93.02±0.47)%, (55.10±2.04)% and (30.33±1.45)% after WERI-Rb-1 cells were treated with 25, 50 and 100 μmol/L pterostilbene for 24 h, and the cell viability were (88.38±3.70)%, (53.37±1.17)%, (29.60±1.05)% after WERI-Rb-1 cells were treated with 50 μmol/L pterostilbene for 12, 24 and 48 h. Pterostilbene induced cell apoptosis (P<0.01), the apoptosis rates of control group, 24 h treated group and 48 h treated group were (4.08±0.79)%, (13.44±2.12)% and (23.49±2.01)%. Pterostilbene induced autophagy of WERI-Rb-1 cells, increased LC3 expression, downregulated P62 expression and increased the number of autophagic vacuoles in WERI-Rb-1 cells (P<0.01). 3-MA and Beclin1 were able to rescue pterostilbene-induced cell death (P<0.01). After 3-MA was used to blunt autophagosome formation, the apoptosis rate markedly decreased in 3-MA+pterostilbene-treated cells compared with cells treated with pterostilbene alone [(12.97±2.09)%vs (8.35±1.11)%], and after siRNA was used to knockdown Beclin1, the apoptosis rate had the same change [(13.80±2.19)%vs (9.62±0.52)%].Conclusion:Pterostilbene can inhibit the proliferation of WERI-Rb-1 cells and induce cell apoptosis via autophagy activation.

Using colon adenocarcinoma cell line HT-29 as testing material, adhesion test was carried out for 24 strains of Bifidobacteria isolated from dejecta of longevous people aged one hundred years. The results showed that all strains could adhere to colon adenocarcinoma cells HT-29, among which the strains of TTF, Z2, TZ5 and (J-1) showed higher adhesive capability. Thus these four strains of Bifidobacteria were further tested for their endurance to stomach acid and bile acid. The production of vitamin B by these bacterial were also tested. All these tests indicated that the strain of TTF has high ability to produce Vitamin B_(1), B_(2), B_(6), B_(12), The survival rate after the treatment under pH 3.0 for 120 min was 93.11%, at the same time, the strain TTF can survive after being treated with 2% bile acid for 24h.

OBJECTIVETo analyze the factors which influence the safety and prognosis of aorta replacement combined with coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) for thoracic aortic aneurysm associated with coronary artery disease.
METHODSFrom May 1982 to October 2002, 67 patients with thoracic aortic aneurysm were admitted, and 24 of them combined with CABG. Of the 24 patients, 9 received descending aorta replacement combined with CABG, and the other 15 received the ascending aorta replacement combined with CABG. The treatment results were compared with the other 43 patients only undergoing the thoracic aortic replacement.
RESULTSThe mortality rate of the patients with aorta replacement combined with CABG was 13% (3/24). Though the descending aorta replacement combined with CABG could make the cardiopulmonary bypass time and selective cerebral perfusion time longer, (278 +/- 54) min and (188 +/- 59) min respectively, no significant difference was observed in postoperative complications, 3-year survival rate, 3-year-cardiac-event-free rate compared with the patients only undergoing the thoracic aortic replacement (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSThe aorta replacement combined with CABG can be performed safely, and the revascularization for coronary artery disease is useful for preventing occurrence of cardiac events.
