5. Effects of family interaction on depression and anxiety in secondary vocational school students
Academic Journal of Second Military Medical University 2012;33(9):1037-1041
Objective To investigate the effect of family interaction on depression and anxiety in secondary vocational school students. Methods A total of 95 students in a secondary vocational school in Shanghai were investigated by Family Assessment Device (FAD), Questionnaire of Systemic Family Dynamics (QSFD), Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale(CES-D), State-Tand Anxiety Inuentory (STAI) and Adolescent Life Events Questionnaire (ALEQ). Pearson correlation and hierarchical multiple linear regression were employed to analyze the data collected. Results Family interaction and adolescent life events were both significantly correlated with depression and anxiety in the subjects (P<0.05). When the impact of adolescent life events was controlled, hierarchical regression analysis showed that affective intervention (β=0.417, P<0.01), affective reaction (β=0.275, P<0.05) and problem solving (β=0.223, P<0.05) were correlated with depression; affective reaction (β=0.414, P<0.05) was correlated with state anxiety; and affective reaction (β=0.333, P<0.01) and disease conception (β=-0.239, P<0.05) were correlated with trait anxiety. Conclusion It is suggested that family interaction is correlated with depression and anxiety in secondary vocational school students, and family interaction may play an important role in mental health of secondary vocational school students.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of 6-gingerol, the main active component of ginger, on hair shaft elongation in vitro and hair growth in vivo.
METHODSFirstly, Hair follicles were co-cultured with 3 different concentration of 6-gingerol for 5 days and hair elongation in three groups was measured. Secondly, The proliferative effect of 6-gingerol on DPCs was measured using MTT assay. Thirdly, the expression of Bcl-2 and Bax in DPCs were measured using Western blotting. In vivo study, the influence of 6-gingerol on hair growth in C57BL/6 rats was measured through topical application of 6-gingerol on the dorsal skin of each animal.
RESULTSThe length of hair shaft in 20 microg/ml 6-Gingerol group (0.50 +/- 0.08 mm) is less than 0 microg/ml (0.66 +/- 0.19) mm and 10 microg/ml (0.64 +/- 0.03) mm 6-Gingerol group (P < 0.05). In cell culture, compared to 0 microg/ml and 5 microg/ml 6-Gingerol, 10 microg/ml 6-Gingerol can significantly inhibited the proliferation of DPCs (P < 0.05). Along with the growth inhibition of DPCs by 6-gingerol, the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio increased obviously. In vivo study, the hair length and density decreased a lot after using 1 mg/ml 6-gingerol.
CONCLUSIONS6-Gingerol can suppress human hair shaft elongation because it has pro-apoptotic effects on DPCs via increasing Bax/Bcl-2 ratio. It might inhibit hair growth by prolonging the telogen stage in vivo.

OBJECTIVETo explore the perioperative cardiovascular dysfunction and its relevance to age in patients with silent coronary heart disease (or silent myocardial ischemia), and explore the clinical treatment and recovery of perioperative arrhythmias.
METHODSOne hundred and eighty cases were selected from selective surgery patients with silent myocardial ischemia (SMI). Among the cases, 130 patients older than 51 years old were divided into 51 - 60 year-old group, 61- 70 year-old group and 71 - 80 year-old group. Control group was set up by other 50 patients younger than 51 years old. Electrocardiogram data of 24 h before the operation, 24 h after the operation and 48 h after the operation were continuously monitored by dynamic electrocardiogram (DCG). The electrocardiogram data of ST shifting, arrhythmia incidences of different type and at different time were analyzed by professional doctors. At the same time, the treatment and recovery of perioperative arrhythmia were recorded.
RESULTSAs the age increase, the magnitude and duration of ST shifting appeared upward trend compared to the control group (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). The incidence of ST elevation in 71 - 80 year-old group was higher than the control group (P < 0.05). The ST depression duration in 61 - 70 and 71 - 80 year-old group and ST elevation magnitude in 71 - 80 year-old group were higher than 51 - 60 year-old group (P < 0.05). Compared to the control group, the incidence of accelerated idioventricular rhythm (AIR) in 61 - 70 year-old group and the incidence of sinus bradycardia (SB), ventricular premature beat (VPB), ventricular tachycardia (VT) in 71 - 80 year-old group were higher (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). Compared to the 51 - 60 year-old group, the incidence of atrial fibrillation (AF) in 61 - 70 year-old group and the incidence of VP, VT, AF in 71 - 80 year-old group were higher (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). The arrhythmia incidences in 24 h after operation were higher than 48 h after operation and 24 h before operation (P < 0.01). As the age increase, the recovery incidence by removing inducement was decreased, but the recovery incidences by drug and electric-shock treatment were increased (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONOld SMI patients have high levels of perioperative myocardial ischemia and arrhythmia, and 24 h after operation is the period of high incidence.

Objective To evaluate the clinical results of arthroscopic repair of combined Bankart and superior labrum anterior to posterior (SLAP)lesions in patients with recurrent shoulder dislocations. Methods Between May 2011 and January 2015,we reviewed 15 cases with combined Bankart and SLAP lesions with recurrent shoulder dislocations who underwent arthroscopic repair.Their average age during surgery was 24.2 years (ranging from 16 to 38 years).During the operation,we began by repairing the unstable SLAP lesion with absorbable suture anchors before we repaired Bankart lesion from the inferior to superior.Fifteen patients in the control group had isolated Bankart lesions without SLAP lesions and underwent arthroscopic repair.Their mean age was 24.6 years (ranging from 18 to 35 years). The preoperative and postoperative results were analyzed by Visual Analogue Scale (VAS)for pain, the range of motion,American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon (ASES)and Rowe Shoulder Scores Systems. We compared the results with the isolated Bankart lesion. Results For patients who underwent arthroscopic repair of combined Bankart and SLAP lesions, the mean postoperative follow-up period was 15 months (ranging from 13 to 28 months),vs 22 months (ranging from 21 to 34 months)in the control group.VAS for pain was decreased from preoperative 4.9 to postoperative 1.9 (P <0.05).Mean ASES and Rowe Shoulder Scores were improved from preoperative 56.4 and 33.7 to postoperative 91.8 and 94.1,respectively (P <0.05). Recurrent dislocation was not observed until the last follow-up and anterior instability in two groups was not noted during the physical examination.Compared with the isolated Bankart lesion group,no statistical significance was found in the ASES score,Rowe Shoulder Score,or VAS for pain (P >0.05 ).Anterior flexion, abduction, and internal rotation of the affected shoulder during the last follow-up were normal after surgery. Conclusion For recurrent dislocation of the shoulder with combined Bankart and SLAP lesion, arthroscopic repair using absorbable suture anchors can achieve favorable clinical results. It can effectively restore shoulder function.
