Objective To study the expression and significance of ?-catenin in keratosic dermatosis and non-melanocytic skin tumors. Methods ?-catenin expression was determined in 10 specimens of normal skin,10 cases of seborrheic keratosis(SK),26 cases of actinic keratosis(AK),17 cases of Bowen's disease(BD) and 35 cases of primary cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma(SCC) by immunohistochemical EnVision two-step staining method. Results The expression of ?-catenin was significantly higher in SK,AK,BD and SCC than in normal skin(P0.05),but that was significantly lower in SK and AK than in BD(P0.05). Conclusion The cytoplasmic and/or nuclear expression of ?-catenin may play a role in the progression from normal skin to keratosic dermatosis and non-melanocytic skin tumors.

Objective To evaluate the outcomes of maxillary protraction in the treatment of skeletal class Ⅲ malocclusions in early mixed dentition. Methods Fourteen patients with skeletal class Ⅲ malocclusions in early mixed dentition were treated with maxillary protraction for one year with oral active appliance bonded face mask.Cephalometric records were analyzed to assess the changes of maxillo-facial structure of the hard tissue before and after treatment. Results The anterior crossbite was unlocked in all the patients, and the maxilla moved downwards and forwards.Point A moved forwards, and angle SNA and ANB significantly increased. The mandible rotated downward and backward, and the Wits values significantly increased, which led to the correction of a skeletal class Ⅲ relationship.Maxillary length and protrusion significantly increased, and facial profile improved obviously. Conclusion Maxillary protraction works well in the treatment of skeletal class Ⅲ malocclusions in early mixed dentition, and can reduce the chances of later orthognathic surgery.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the clinical effects of double-plating internal fixation for the treatment of medial tibial plateau fractures with fracture-dislocation type through combined anterior and inverted "L" posteromedial knee approaches.
METHODSFrom February 2010 to September 2013, 17 patients with medial tibial plateau fractures with fracture-dislocation type were treated by double-plating internal fixation at our department. Anterior knee approach was adopted for medial mass reduction and fixation, while the inverted "L" posteromedial approach was used for posteromedial mass. There were 11 males and 6 females, with an average age of 42 years old (ranged, 21 to 65 years old). The efficacy were investigated by comparing pre- and post-operative radiographic data, and by evaluating clinical symptoms using the HSS score system.
RESULTSAll the patients were followed with a mean time of 18 months (ranged, 11 to 25 months). The tibial-plateau varus angle immediately after operation and at the latest follow-up were respectively (87.8 ± 4.2)° and (88.2 ± 4.6)°, and there was no statistical difference (P = 0.458). The posterior slope angle immediately after operation and at the latest follow-up were respectively (10.1 ± 3.7)° and (10.3 ± 4.1)°, and there was no statistical difference (P = 0.512). The knee joint HSS score was 86.7 ± 6.1. No patient had complications such as infection, skin necrosis, internal fixation loosening or loss of fracture reduction.
CONCLUSIONDoubl-plating internal fixation through combined approaches is an ideal operation method for medial tibial plateau fractures with fracture-dislocation type, because it can provide clear surgical field, satisfactory reduction, reliable fixation, and chance for early functional exercise.

To evaluate the effect of Hexue mingmu tablets on traumatic hyphema caused by blunt ocular trauma.
●METHODS: Totally 150 patients of traumatic hyphema were divided into seven types by using ultrasound biomicroscopy combining with anterior segment abnormalities, each type was randomly classified as trial group and control group. The trial group was administered Hexue mingmu tablets, control group was treated by hemocoagulase.
●RESULTS: The absorbing time of trial group was shorter than that of the control group. And there was statistical significance between the two groups (P<0. 05).
● CONCLUSlON: Hexue mingmu tablets is an effective medicine to treat traumatic hyphema. Ultrasound biomicroscopy can be used as a routine examination method in traumatic hyphema.

In this study, hydrophilic matrix sustained release tablets of total lactones from Andrographis paniculata were prepared and the in vitro release behavior were also evaluated. The optimal prescription was achieved by studying the main factor of the type and amount of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) using single factor test and evaluating through cumulative release of three lactones. No burst drug release from the obtained matrix tablets was observed. Drug release sustained to 14 h. The release mechanism of three lactones from A. paniculata was accessed by zero-order, first-order, Higuchi and Peppas equation. The release behavior of total lactones from A. paniculata was better agreed with Higuchi model and the drug release from the tablets was controlled by degradation of the matrix. The preparation of hydrophilic matrix sustained release tablets of total lactones from A. paniculata with good performance of drug release was simple.

Chinese Journal of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine 2014;34(7):826-832
OBJECTIVETo observe the effect of Tangke Decoction (TD) on the expression of TGF-beta1/Smad4 of rats with early diabetes and to explore the effect and mechanism of TD against the renal injury induced by diabetes.
METHODSSD rats were randomly divided into the normal control group (n = 12), the model group (n = 10), the Chinese herbs prevented group (n =10), the Chinese herbs treated group (n = 10), and the Western medicine control group (n = 10). TD (18 mg/kg) was given by gastrogavage to rats in the Chinese herbs prevented group immediately after successful modeling for 12 weeks, once daily. At the 4th week of successful modeling, rats in the rest 4 groups were administered by gastrogavage. Equal volume of normal saline was given to rats in the model group and the normal control group. Benazepril suspension (1 mg/kg) was administered by gastrogavage to rats in the Western medicine control group for 8 weeks, once daily. TD (18 mg/kg) was given by gastrogavage to rats in the Chinese herbs treated group for 8 weeks, once daily. The body weight, kidney weight, index of kidney weight, fasting blood sugar, 24 h urinary albumin excretion rate were examined after experiment. The pathological changes of the renal tissue were observed by HE staining, Masson staining, and electron microscope. The expression of renal transforming growth factor-beta1, (TGF-beta1) and Smad4 were detected using immunohistochemical assay.
RESULTSCompared with the normal control group, the body weight of rats decreased significantly; the kidney weight, index of kidney weight, blood sugar, 24 h urinary protein excretion, the urinary albumin excretion rate,TGF-beta1 and Smad4 expression increased significantly in the model group (all P < 0.01). Compared with the model group, the aforesaid indices were improved in each treatment group with statistical difference (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). Compared with the Western medicine control group, the kidney weight, index of kidney weight, blood sugar, 24 h urinary protein excretion, and the urinary albumin excretion rate were obviously improved in the Chinese herbs prevented group (P < 0.01). The renal pathological changes were most obvious in the model group significantly, but they were improved in all treatment groups.
CONCLUSIONTD could obviously improve the symptoms of diabetes and down-regulate the expression of renal TGF-beta1 and Smad4 of early diabetic nephropathy rats, which suggested that TD had certain preventive effect on early diabetic nephropathy.
