Objective To investigate the protective effects of ethanol-extract of Halenia elliptica D. Don on chemical hepatic injury in mice. Methods Mouse models of chemical hepatic injury were induced by intraperitoneal injection of 0.12 %CCL4. Extract of Halenia elliptica D. Don by alcohol was administered, and serum ALT,AST activities and liver glycogen level were measured in mice. Results Compared with the models, the enzyme activities of ALT and AST were significantly reduced and the content of liver glycogen was significantly increased in the ethanol-ex tract of Halenia elliptica groups. Conclusion It is indicated that ethanol-extract of Halenia elliptica D. Don has an effect in protecting the liver.

Using colon adenocarcinoma cell line HT-29 as testing material, adhesion test was carried out for 24 strains of Bifidobacteria isolated from dejecta of longevous people aged one hundred years. The results showed that all strains could adhere to colon adenocarcinoma cells HT-29, among which the strains of TTF, Z2, TZ5 and (J-1) showed higher adhesive capability. Thus these four strains of Bifidobacteria were further tested for their endurance to stomach acid and bile acid. The production of vitamin B by these bacterial were also tested. All these tests indicated that the strain of TTF has high ability to produce Vitamin B_(1), B_(2), B_(6), B_(12), The survival rate after the treatment under pH 3.0 for 120 min was 93.11%, at the same time, the strain TTF can survive after being treated with 2% bile acid for 24h.

Cyclodextrin(CD) is gradually applied in the nonviral gene vector system, due to its biocompatibility and flexibility of tailing via structural modification, polymerization or supramolecular combination. The ideas and research progress of the CD,its low molecular derivatives,CD polymers and CD supramolecular combination in the field of norviral gene vectros were reviewed, and their "structure-safety-transfection efficiency" relationships were discussed.

Objective To study the epidemiological characteristics of diabetes mellitus and to provide effective prevention and intervention methods in rural area in Kunming. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted among 3 440 permanent residents aged 20~74 years in kunming rural districts. Results The general prevalence rate of diabetes was 4.01% and the standardized rate was 2.90%.The standardized prevalent rate for male(3.55%) was higher than that for female(2.61%),and the prevalence rates varied among different groups of rural inhabitants. Conclusion It is necessary to take effective methods to prevent and control diabetes in rural area.

Objective To investigate the antiproliferation and induction differentiation of human gas- tric carcinoma which human gastric lower-differentiation mucinous carcinoma MGC-803 cells transplanted in- to nude mice by using rosiglitazone(ROS),and to preliminarily explore the mechanism of differentiation. Methods The mice were randomly divided into five groups:model,ATRA,ROS 25 mg?kg~(-1),ROS 50 mg/kg, ROS 100 mg/kg.After that the volumes were measured and inhibition rates were calculated. The cell cycle was detected by FCM.The protein expression level of Mucin SAC was detected by immunohistochemistry. Results The volume of tumor decreased significantly in ROS treatment groups, the differences had statistical significance compared with model group(P0.05).The xenograft tumors of ROS groups demonstrated the characteristics of differentiation.Xenograft tumor cells were arrested in G_0/G_1 phase, and the cells in S phase decreased significantly, and up-regulated Mucin SAC gene expression. Conclusion ROS could inhibit the growth of tumor, and the effect were dose-dependent with ROS.ROS could induce the differentiation of Xenograft tumor cells of gastric cancer. Its mechanism might be related to the inhibit of transition from G_1 to S phase, degrade the activity of proliferation, regulate the expres- sion of Mucin 5AC.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the role of endoplasmic reticulum stress in the apoptosis of testicular germ cells in hyperlipidemic rats.
METHODSWe randomly assigned 42 four-week-old male Wistar rats into a normal control group (n = 12) and a high-fat group (n = 30) to be fed on a normal diet and a high-fat diet, respectively, for 10 weeks. Then we measured the concentrations of triglyceride (TG) and total cholesterol (TC) in the serum using an automatic biochemistry analyzer, detected the apoptosis of testicular germ cells by TUNEL staining, and determined the protein and mRNA expressions of GRP78 and. caspase-12 in the testis tissue by immunohistochemistry and RT-PCR, respectively.
RESULTSThe concentrations of TG and TC were significantly increased in the animals of the high-fat group ([3.00 ± 0.92] and [3.04 ± 0.39] mmol/L) as compared with the control rats ([1.43 ± 0.41] and [1.55 ± 0.23] mmol/L) (P < 0.01), and so was the apoptosis index of the testicular germ cells ([37.17 ± 2.74]% vs [5.16 ± 0.81]%, P < 0.01). The high-fat group, in comparison with the control, also showed remarkably upregulated protein and mRNA expressions of GRP78 (0.32 ± 0.03 and 0.86 ± 0.05 vs 0.19 ± 0.01 and 0.37 ± 0.03, P < 0.01) and caspase-12 (0.34 ± 0.02 and 0.87 ± 0.01 vs 0.12 ± 0.01 and 0.34 ± 0.03, P < 0.01) in the testis tissue.
CONCLUSIONThe apoptosis of testicular germ cells is increased in hyperlipidemic rats, which may be attributed to endoplasmic reticulum stress.
