Plant insect-resistantgenetic engineering hasopened a new way to prevent and cure against the insect pest incrop and wood productions. With the progresses instudies, many insect-resistantgeneswere cloned and characterized. The classification of most insect-resistantgenes from plant, the functionalmechanism and the applications of theplantinsect-resistantgenes, the problems and prospectsforusing the plant insect-resistant genes in genetic engineering was described.

Diffusion tensor imaging(DTI) is an efficient and noninvasive tool to investigate the characteristics and functions of white matter fiber tracts, and it can be used to study the relationship between the structure and function in the nervous system, the plasticity and damage repair of visual development, abnormalities of the white matters that relate to the visual pathways.Recently, the quantification of white matter fiber tracts from the lateral geniculate bodies to the occipital lobe visual cortex using DTI offers morphological information for the function and structure of the white matters during visual development. Some studies attempt to compare the DTI outcomes and tractography between amblyopic children and normal children so as to better display the variations of optic radiation in children with amblyopia, and to evaluate the relationship between structure and function of the white matters.DTI becomes an important supplementary research approach in these fields. This paper reviews the application of DTI in visual development and amblyopic eyes.

BACKGROUND:Skin grafting is crucial for patients with deep burns, but limited source of autologous skin grafts is an existing difficulty.
OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effect of xenogeneic (porcine) acelular dermal matrix in the treatment of deep burn wounds and the feasibility of its application.
METHODS:Forty-one patients with deep burn were divided into two groups according to the intention of the patients, 21 cases in control group and 20 cases in observational group, folowed by autologous split-thickness skin grafting alone or combined with different (porcine) acelular dermal matrix, respectively. After 12 months of folow-up, the graft success rate at postoperative 1, 2, 3, 4 weeks and skin graft contraction rate and wound repair at postoperative 3, 6, 9, 12 months were observed and compared between two groups. Moreover, levels of inflammatory factors were detected and compared between two groups at postoperative 1, 2, 3 months.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The skin graft success rates showed no difference between two groups at postoperative 1, 2, 3, 4 weeks (P > 0.05). The skin graft contraction rates also showed no difference between two groups at postoperative 3, 6, 9, 12 months (P > 0.05). After 12 months of folow-up, no serious scar hyperplasia, but soft texture appeared in the control group. In the observational group, three cases presented with local pigmentation at the early stage, but it gradualy subsided with time; no obvious scar, but only smal, point-like scar, was visible, and the repaired wound exhibited soft touch. No adverse events and death occurred in both two groups. Experimental results show that the treatment of deep burns with autologous split-thickness skin grafting combined with xenogeneic (porcine) acelular dermal matrix is safe and effective, which can improve the quality of wound healing.

Objective To evaluate the effect of combination transfer pump and single blood pump to 32 cases of renal failure patient who need blood purification therapy. Methods The combination transfer pump and single blood pump were used.According to the clinical requirement, the parameters of transfer pump were set such as therapy time, replacement liquid flow rate, dialysate flow rate, temperature of warmer and filtrate flow rate, etc. Results 32 patients with varying degrees of illness have been alleviated.Patients' acute left heart failure, water and electrolyte turbulences, acid intoxication and azotemia caused by liquid retention were corrected, which ensured a role for further treatment. Conclusion It is the functions of adjustable time and transfusion volume that are used in the combination transfer pump, the task of which is accomplished by several transfer pumps together. This method is easy to implement and can meet the clinical requirement largely without special CBP instrument.
