Objective To investigate the safty and accuracy ot estimating the living donor's graft volume with IQQA liver imaging evaluation system. Methods Between June 2007 and July 2010,123living liver donors were enrolled to undergo 16-slice CT scanning, then graft volume was estimated by both IQQA and manu-traced multi-slice spiral computed tomography (MSCT) approach. The graft volume and time consuming between IQQA and manu-traced MSCT were compared. Pearson Correlation test was uesd to verify the correlation between the estimated graft volume estimated each method and actual graft weight detected in operation.Linear correlation analysis was done. Results The mean graft volume by IQQA and manu-traced MSCT was (856.76 ± 162.18) and (870.64 ±172.54) cm3 respectively preoperation.Paired t-test showed there was no statistically significant difference between IQQA and MSCT methods (P>0.05).It took mean ( 16.9 ± 1.4) min to calculatethe graft volume by IQQA and (39.3 ± 2.1 ) min by manu-traced MSCT,respectively (P<0.05).The real graft volume was (632.59 ± 13 1.73) cm3.Pearson correlation test showed the graft volume calculated by either IQQA or MSCT method had a significantly positive correlation with the real graft weight (MSCT r =0.921,IQQA r =0.896,P<0.01 ).Graft weight could be expressed in the equation:Actual graft weight =- 150.303 + 1.025 × IQQA value or =- 94.397 + 0.955 × MSCT value. Conclusion IQQA system has same accuracy with MSCT method in predicting the graft volume but consuming less time.IQQA system promotes the recognition of clinician on liver three dimensional anatomic structure.

In order to elucidate the expression and molecular genetic background of ABO gene seven samples with ABO discrepancy further identified as bi-specific ABO gene were studied. All these samples were subjected to phenotyping by monoclonal and polyclonal antisera and were then genotyped by direct DNA sequencing and haplotype-sequencing at the exon 6 and 7 of ABO gene. As a result, six ABO dual-specific alleles were identified in Chinese population. An antigen expressed by these B (A) or Cis-AB individuals varied from very low level to the normal level, compared with common A blood group samples. In conclusion, molecular genetic backgrounds of two pairs out of four samples in all samples were the same, however, the ABO expression showed diverse.

BACKGROUNDWe previously reported that iodine-131((131)I)-labeled anti-pro-gastrin-releasing peptide (ProGRP(31-98)) monoclonal antibody D-D3 could selectively accumulate in the tumor sites of nude mice bearing small cell lung cancer (SCLC) xenografts. However, (131)I-D-D3 was cleared slowly from the body, and the best radioimmunoimaging time for SCLC was 72 - 96 hours after injection. The aims of this study were to radiolabel anti-ProGRP(31-98) D-D3 monoclonal antibody with technetium-99m ((99m)Tc) and to investigate the biodistribution of this antibody in healthy ICR mice.
METHODSD-D3 was labeled with (99m)Tc via the 2-mercaptoethanol reduction method. (99m)Tc-D-D3 was purified by the gel column separation method. The labeling efficiency and radiochemical purity were measured by thin-layer chromatography. The immunological activity of (99m)Tc-D-D3 was determined with cell conjugation assays. (99m)Tc-D-D3 was injected into healthy ICR mice via a tail vein, and all the healthy ICR mice were sacrificed by cervical dislocation at a designated time. Then, the blood and major organs were removed and weighed, and counted in a gamma scintillation counter to determine the percentage of the injected dose per gram (%ID/g).
RESULTSThe labeling rate and the radiochemical purity of (99m)Tc-D-D3 were (73.87 ± 2.89)% and (94.13 ± 4.49)%, respectively. The immunobinding rates of (99m)Tc-D-D3 to the human small cell lung cancer NCI-H446 cell line and lung adenocarcinoma A549 cell line were (81.2 ± 2.37)% and (24.3 ± 1.46)%, respectively. The distribution data of normal ICR mice demonstrated that (99m)Tc-D-D3 was mainly distributed in the liver, kidney and lung, and less in the brain tissue and muscle.
CONCLUSIONS(99m)Tc-D-D3 antibody not only had high radiochemical purity, but also had good stability both in vitro and in vivo, and maintained good immunological activity. (99m)Tc-D-D3 was metabolized mainly in the kidney and liver, and the blood radioactivity decreased rapidly. Thus, (99m)Tc-D-D3 is conducive to the radioimmunoimaging of SCLC.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the association of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs599839 on chromosome 1p13.3 with premature coronary heart disease.
METHODSA case-control association study of 303 unrelated premature coronary heart disease patients and 312 normal controls from a Chinese Han population was performed. Genotype was determined by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism for SNP rs599839 on Chromosome 1p13.3.
RESULTSThe frequencies of the G allele were 5.0% and 9.1% in the premature coronary heart disease group and control group respectively (P= 0.004). The presence of the G allele was associated with significantly lower concentration of the low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C) in both groups.
CONCLUSIONThe present findings suggest that the genetic polymorphism in rs599839 may be associated with the development of premature coronary heart disease in Chinese Han population, and the polymorphism may have some influence on serum LDL-C level in this population.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate variations of pulmonary venous drainage and venous ostium index (VOI) in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) prior to radio-frequency catheter ablation (RFCA) by MDCT pulmonary venography.
METHODS16-detector row CT pulmonary venography was performed in 64 AF patients referred to RFCA from June, 2005 to May, 2006. Variations in pulmonary venous drainage were observed in volume render imagines. Anterior-posterior and superior-inferior diameters of pulmonary venous ostium were measured on maximum intensity projection images. VOI derived from left superior, left inferior, right superior, right inferior pulmonary veins and variations in pulmonary venous drainage were calculated.
RESULTSClassic pulmonary veins anatomy was found in 11 patients (17.18%), early branching veins in 45 patients (70.31%), left common ostium in 5 patients (7.81%), right common ostia in 1 patient, right accessory (middle) pulmonary vein in 5 patients (7.81%) and left accessory (middle) pulmonary vein in 1 patient (1.56%). VOI of homolateral pulmonary veins and bilateral superior pulmonary veins were similar (P > 0.05) while there was a significant difference on VOIs derived from left superior and right inferior; two inferior, left inferior versus right superior veins (P < 0.05). Right inferior pulmonary venous ostium was most rounded and had the highest index (0.88) and left inferior pulmonary venous ostium was most oval and had the lowest index (0.72).
CONCLUSIONMultidetector row CT pulmonary venography (MDCT-PV) could provide valuable informations on pulmonary venous anatomy in AF patients referred to RFCA and should be used as a routine examination prior to the operation.

OBJECTIVETo explore the significance of C4d deposition in follicular lymphoma (FL).
METHODSThe deposition of C4d was detected in samples from 133 cases of lymphoma by immunohistochemistry and FL was studied by the double stainings of CD35/C4d, CD21/C4d and Bcl-2/C4d,respectively.
RESULTSAmong the 26 FL tissues, irregular C4d deposition was seen in 19 tumor tissues. Double staining for CD35, CD21 or Bcl-2 showed the C4d deposition was around the follicular dendritic cells (FDC). There was no significant difference between the positive rate of C4d and the degree of lymphoma. No deposition was found in the diffuse areas of FL and other type lymphomas.
CONCLUSIONC4d deposition around the follicular dendritic cell in the neoplastic follicles is a specific indicator of follicular lymphoma.
