1.Endogenous sulfur dioxide:a novel gasotransmitter in cardiovascular system
International Journal of Pediatrics 2014;41(1):32-35
Sulfur dioxide has been considered as a toxic gas. However, recently more and more studies have shown that sulfur dioxide can be generated endogenously in cardiovascular system and has broad physiologic effects.Studies demonstrate that sulfur dioxide plays an important role in the regulation in the pathophysiologic process of many cardiovascular diseases, such as hypertension, atherosclerosis. These findings suggest that sulfur dioxide might be a novel endogenous gaseous signaling molecule involved in the regulation of cardiovascular functions.
2.Diagnosis and treatment of carcinoma of unknown primary
Journal of International Oncology 2015;42(12):942-945
The primary focal area of carcinoma of unknown primary (CUP) can not be determined by clinical examination. It is difficult to find the primary site and its prognosis is poor. The traditional diagnostic approaches mainly include pathological examination, endoscopy, imaging technology and so on.However, positron emission tomography is the preferred approach. In recent years, gene expression profiling has become a new diagnostic approach to find the source of CUP.The detection rate by gene expression profiling is high, and the approach can accurately identify the primary site. The recommended therapies include classic platinum-or paclitaxel-based chemotherapy, radiotherapy or surgery, and site-directed therapy by gene expression profiling for patients with CUP improves their survival rate.

Objective To estimate the value of neck circumference in diagnosis of metabolic syndrome. Methods We analyzed the neck circumference of 523 volunteers and the occurrence of metabolic syndrome among them. Then we updated and revalued their data after follow-up for 1.5 years, meanwhile, we evaulated the value of Body Mass Index (BMI) and neck circumference in predicting metabolic syndrome. Results The increase of neck circumference was closely related to the occurrence of metabolic syndrome , and this tendency continued in the follow-up. Compared with BMI , neck circumference was sensitive in identifying the patients of metabolic syndrome. Conclusion Neck circumference has great value in diagnosis and treatment of metabolic syndrome.

Chinese Journal of Dermatology 2013;46(8):586-588
Objective To assess the clinical feature of older-onset systemic lupus erythematosus. Methods A retrospective study was carried out.Clinical and laboratory findings were collected from 48 patients with older-onset (> or =50 years) SLE as well as 424 patients with younger-onset (< 50 years) SLE hospitalized in the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from January 2008 to January 2011.Results Among the 472 hospitalized patients with SLE,the ratio of male to female was 1 ∶ 8.08,and older-onset SLE accounted for 10.17%.No significant difference was observed in the incidence of fever, arthritis, decrease in hemoglobin level, increase in erythrocyte sedimentation rate and reduction in complement C4 level,or the positivity rate of anti-ribonucleoprotein (RNP) or anti-Sm autoantibodies (all P > 0.05) between the older-onset and younger-onset SLE patients. The patients with older-onset SLE showed a statistically higher incidence of myalgia, myasthenia, serositis, heart damage and lung damage, decrease in white blood cell count and platelet count, but a significantly lower incidence of butterfly rash, alopecia, renal damage,Raynaud's phenomenon, photosensitivity, decrease in complement C3 level,as well as the positivity rate of anti-dsDNA and anti-nucleosome antibodies in comparison with those with youngeronset SLE (all P < 0.05).Conclusions It is likely that older-onset SLE has mild and atypical clinical manifestations, with a relatively low positivity rate of specific immunological indices.Hence, clinicians should pay more attention to older-onset SLE so as to avoid the misdiagnosis or missed diagnosis of it.

Chinese Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology 2008;43(7):497-501
Objective To explore the role of aquaporin 1 (AQP1) in the initiation and development of hypertensive disorder complicating pregnancy ( HDCP), and to analyze the relationship between AQP1 expression and ascites formation of patients with eclampsia. Methods Sixty inpatients with HDCP were recruited in the study, including 20 patients with gestational hypertension, 20 with mild preeclampsia, and 20 with severe preeclampsia. And 20 healthy pregnant women were taken as control. Immunohistochemistry was used to analyze AQP1 expressions in placenta, embryolemma and peritoneum, and B-mode uhrasonography was used to detect the ascites level of the patients. Results ( 1 ) AQP1 expression was detected in placenta, embryolemma and peritoneum. AQP1 was mainly located in endotheliocytes of blood vessels and blood capillaries in placenta, endothelial cells of amniotic membrane in embryolemma, and endotheliocytes of blood capillary and small veins in peritoneum- (2)The ascites incidence of HDCP patients ( 63%, 38/60) was higher than that of controls( 10% ,2/20 ; P < 0. O1 ). ( 3 ) The positive expressive rate of AQP1 in placenta of patients with HDCP ( 85% ) was higher than that of controls ( 70%, P < 0. 01 ).Furthermore, the AQP1 positive expressive rate from severe preeclampsia (90%)was obviously higher than that from gestational hypertension patients ( 80%, P <0. 05 ). (4) The AQP1 positive expressive rate in embryolemma from HDCP patients( 87% ) was lower than that of controls ( 95%, P < 0. 05 ). The expressive rate from severe preeclampsia patients (80%) was obviously lower than that from gestational hypertension patients(95%, P <0. 05) and that of controls. (5) The AQP1 expressive rate in peritoneum from HDPC patients(82% )was higher than that of controls(70%, P <0. 01 ). The expressive rate of AQP1 from severe preeclampsia patients ( 90% ) was obviously higher than that from gestational hypertension patients (75%,P <0. 05) and that of controls. Conclusions The expression level of AQP1 of patients with preeclampsia increases in placenta and peritoneum and decreases in embryolemma, and holds correlation with the degree of HDCP. All these suggest that the changes in AQP1 expression may play an important role in the initiation and development of HDCP and may be one of the mechanisms for ascites formation.
