OBJECTIVE: To observe the effects of recipe for invigorating kidney on expression of estrogen receptors in ovariectomized rats. METHODS: The rats, which were given high-cholesterol diet after ovariectomy, were chosen as experimental subjects. After fed kidney-invigorating recipe for 16 weeks, the rats were killed and the levels of serum lipid and estradiol of these rats were examined. The expressions of estrogen receptor alpha and beta mRNAs in aorta, pituitary gland and hypothalamus, and the affinity of estrogen receptor-ligand were also detected. RESULTS: The kidney-invigorating recipe could increase the expression levels of estrogen receptor alpha and beta mRNAs in different parts such as aorta, pituitary gland and hypothalamus, and enhance the affinity of estrogen receptor-ligands. CONCLUSION: The recipe for invigorating kidney may meliorate atherosclerosis in ovariectomized rats by regulating the estrogen receptors.

Objective:To investigate the epitope and its immunogenicity of bFGF. Methods -.The phage disply 7 peptides library was screened with monoclonal antibody GE22 to bFGF, which neutralize the bioactivin'es of bFGF. Results: After three cycles screening, the isolated phage clones with GF22 epitopes specifically inhibited bFGF binding to GF22.Sequence analysis showd that the epitopes shared a highly consensus spequence( Leu-Pro-Pro/Leu-Gly-His-Phe/He-Lys) and PPGHFK sequence was located at aino acids 22-27 (PPGHFK) within bFGF (155aa) molecule.Phage clones with the epitopes could highly induce imuno-response in mice,eapically with the sequence LPLGHK was 3 times higher than original sequence. Conclusion:Trie sequence LPLGHK may be a valuable vaccine in future studies of bFGF.

Objective: To study the effectiveness of anti-tumorgenecity of human IL-10 antisense and viral IL-10 antisense on nasopharyn-geal carcinoma(NPC) cells.Methods:Human IL-10 cDNA and viral IL-10 gene had been amplifed and cloned. A two-valent eukaryotic expression vector for antisense nucleic acids of human IL-10 cDNA and viral IL-10 gene had been constructed and designated as pcDNA3/AS hIL-10 + AS vIL-10.The recombinant vector was transfected into a NPC-clerived cell strain-SUNE cells. After that, the transfected and nontransfected SUNE cells were inoculated i.d. in the right flank of SCID mice and hu-PBL-SCID mice to evaluate their tumorgenecity changes.Results:The results of ELISA analysis showed that the concentration of hIL-10 and vIL-10 was 242 ?3 pg'ml-1 in supernatant of the nontransfected SUNE cells, and onry 22 ? pg ?ml-1 of hIL-10 and vIL-10 contained in supernatant of the transfected SUNE cells. After inoculation to SCID mice, the transfected and nontransfected SUNE cell showed the same growth manner. But inoculating to hu-PBL-SCID mice, the transfected SUNE cells grew slowerly than the nontransfected SUNE cell. Objective To evaluate the efficacy of endoscopic techniques for corrections of facial contour deformities.MethodsA total of 58 patients(48 women and 10 men)with square face(38),prominent zygoma(12),or crooked noses(8)were treated by endoscopic-assisted technique in our hospital.Results The operation time ranged from 40 to 86 min(mean,65 min),and intraoperative blood loss was 60-120 ml(mean,78 ml).The patients were discharged from the hospital in 3 to 7 days(mean 4)after the surgery,and was followed up for 3 to 24 months.During the period,no one had unexpected fracture,injuries to the mental and facial nerves and vessels,or infection.All the patients were satisfied with the surgical outcomes.ConclusionsEndoscopic-assisted correction of facial contour deformities is feasible,safe,and effective.

Objective To explore the association between gene polymorphism of interleukin(IL)-4 C590T and serum level of IL-4 and atherothrombotic cerebral infarction(ATCI).Methods The gene polymorphisms of IL-4 C590T in 159 patients with ATCI and 151 normal control subjects were carried out by polymerase chain reaction(PCR)-restriction fragment length polymorphism(RFLP).The serum level of IL-4 in normal control group was determined with enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) method.Results In the normal control group,the serum level of IL-4 in TT genotype[(31.85?5.68) pg/ml] was higher significantly than those in TC[(28.67?6.00) pg/ml] and CC genotypes[(20.98?0.99) pg/ml],TC genotype was higher significantly than CC genotype(all P0.05).Conclusions IL-4 590T allele is associated with higher level of serum IL-4.The C590T polymorphism is not associated with the incidence of ATCI.
