AIM: To investigate the effects of oral administration of Astragalus membranceus, mung bean and arsenolite on the toxic of the arsenolite induced rats and the possible mechanisms with metallothionein (MT). METHODS: All the rats were oral administration with arsenolite. The Astragalus membranceus and mung bean were compared with the cadmium chloride which induced MT synthesis. The contents of MT were determined by cadmium saturation method, the liver mRNA levels for MT 1, MT 2 were detected by RT PCR. The protective effects of renal and liver were observed by testing alanine aminotransferase (ALT), blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and serum creatinine (SCR). RESULTS: The contents of MT were accorded with the mRNA expression of MT 1, MT 2. Arsenolite, Astragalus membranceus and mung bean could induce the synthesis of MT, but the contents of MT which arsenolite induced were trace. The contents of MT significantly increased after oral administration of Astragalus membranceus and mung bean, especially in the Astragalus membranceus group (P

Objective To study the effects of living environment conditions and animal-animal interaction on the blood hormone levels and psychological behavior in Chinese tree shrews .Methods Chinese tree shrews were raised in ca-ges of different space sizes or were administered reserpine for 15, 30, 60, 120, 180 days, respectively. Then the animals were anesthetized by ether inhalation , and blood samples were taken from the heart to detect the levels of blood testosterone (T), estradiol (E2), endothelin (ET), adrenaline (A) and noradrenaline (NA) by radioimmunoassay (RIA).Results 1.Chinese tree shrews were bred in large cage (D1group) or small cage (X1 group) for 15, 30, 60, 120, 180 days, re-spectively.Compared with the animals bred in the large cage (D1 group), the level of blood testosterone (T) was signifi-cantly reduced (P<0.01), and the levels of adrenaline , noradrenaline and endothelin were significantly increased in the small cage group (P<0.01 for all).2.The animals raised in small cages in close neighborhood with large cages for 15, 30, 60, 120, 180 days, respectively. The levels of testosterone, adrenaline and noradrenaline in the large cage group (X2 group) were significantly higher than those of the small cage group (X1 group) (P<0.01 for all).3.The adrenaline and noradrenaline levels were significantly lower in all the reserpine groups (P<0.01 for all).4.The animals bred in small cages (X1 group) and in small cages in close neighborhood with large cages showed sudden loss , reduced appetite, testicu-lar atrophy , penile prolapse and stress symptoms .The animals of the reserpine groups appeared gentle temperament , signif-icantly reduced activity and reduced appetite .However , after stopping the reserpine administration and feeding them in large cages , the animals gradually returned to normal behavior .Conclusion Both animals living environment conditions and animal-animal interaction may cause changes of blood hormone levels and psychological behavior in Chinese tree shrews.
6.The simulation of SAR and temperature distribution and parameters analysis for tumor RF thermotherapy.
Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2005;22(5):901-905
In this paper are reported the model establishment and numerical simulation of specific absorption rate(SAR) and the unsteady temperature distribution for the non-invasive tumor RF thermotherapy. The model can correctly reflect the attenuation of electromagnetic wave in the biotissue, the variation of perfusion with temperature and lower perfusion of the tumor tissue are fully considered in the simulation. These measures made simulation results more close to the clinical results. Also presented in the paper are detailed analyses and discussions on the characteristics of SAR of electromagnetic energy and the temperature profiles, the effects of the frequency and the perfusion on the depth for effective treatment. The simulation results are of great significance for directing the clinical application of tumor RF thermotherapy.

Objective To assess effects of stress dynamic CT myocardial perfusion imaging (CT-MPI) combined with coronary CT angiography (CCTA) on the diagnosis of myocardial perfusion defects in coronary artery disease (CAD). Methods Patients with CAD diagnosed by CCTA underwent ATP stress CT-MPI examination. Single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) myocardial perfusion imaging (SPECT-MPI) was performed within one week and set as the reference standard. CT-MPI results were qualitatively analyzed, and myocardial blood flow (MBF), myocardial blood volume (MBV) as well as time to peak (TTP) were quantified according to CT-MPI. Effects of CCTA, CT-MPI, and CT-MPI combined with CCTA on predicting myocardial perfusion defects were assessed in comparison with NMPI. Results Thirty patients [(54.8±8.4)years] were enrolled in our study, 20 were men (68%). MBF [(79.3±18.0) versus (135.1± 35.2) ml·100 ml-1·min-1] and MBV [(8.9±2.9) versus (13.8±8.9) ml/100 ml] were significantly decreased in hypoperfused segments compared with normal segments, while TTP was increased in hypoperfused segments [(13.9 ± 2.5)s] compared with normal segments [(9.1 ± 2.1)s] (t=0.302, 0.866 and 0.024 respectively, all P values<0.01). The sensitivity, specificity of CT-MPI for identifying segments with perfusion defects were 91.3%(147/161), 84.6%(281/332), respectively. On a per-vessel basis, the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve for predicting myocardial perfusion defects were 0.635(95%CI:0.517—0.753) for CCTA, 0.709(95%CI:0.599—0.819)for CT-MPI, and 0.837(95%CI:0.749—0.925)for CT-MPI combined with CCTA, respectively. Conclusions The performance of stress dynamic CT-MPI in the diagnosis of myocardial perfusion defects in CAD was good. One-stop examination of CT-MPI combined with CCTA improves the diagnostic accuracy for identifying flow-obstructing stenosis.

West China Journal of Stomatology 2002;20(1):55-57
OBJECTIVEThe purpose of this study is to investigate the synergistic effects of human tumor necrosis factor-alpha (hTNF-alpha) transfection and interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) on the growth of tongue carcinoma cells.
METHODSThe cultured Tca8113 tongue carcinoma cells was divided into 2 groups, one group was transferred with hTNF-alpha gene. Each of the 2 groups was then divided into 5 subgroups, and the subgroups were added IFN-gamma until the final IFN-gamma concentrations respectively were 0, 10, 100, and 1000 U/ml. After culturing for 48 hours, the survival rates of the all groups of cells were assayed by MTT enzymatic labeling technique, and the expression of hTNF-alpha in Tca8113 cells was observed with immunocytochemistry.
RESULTSIFN-gamma did not affect the growth of Tca8113 cells without hTNF-alpha, however, the transfection of hTNF-alpha with the above different concentrations of IFN-gamma synergistically inhibited the growth of Tca8113 cells, the concentrations of IFN-gamma were positively correlated with the inhibition effects (r = 0.733, P < 0.01), the transferred Tca8113 cells displayed remarkable overexpression of hTNF-alpha, compared with the non-transferred.
CONCLUSIONIFN-gamma can enhance the inhibition of hTNF-alpha transfection on the tongue carcinoma cells.
