BACKGROUND:Articular cartilage injuries can result from a variety of causes. Conventional therapy cannot obtain the optimal clinical results. Low-intensity pulsed ultrasound has been shown to promote the repair of injured articular cartilage. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effects of low-intensity pulsed ultrasound on the repair of injured articular cartilage. METHODS:Twenty New Zealand white rabbits were used to establish knee arthritis models and equal y randomized into study and control groups, respectively. Rabbits in the study group received low-intensity pulsed ultrasound treatment, and sham low-intensity pulsed ultrasound treatment was given in the control group. At 8 weeks after treatment, pathological change and histological scores in articular cartilage tissue col ected from both groups were determined. Moreover, the ultrastructure and type II col agen expression of chondrocytes were determined. Matrix metal oproteinase-13 mRNA expression was detected by quantitative real-time PCR. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:At 8 weeks after treatment, toluidine blue staining showed a disordered arrangement of cel s, decreased number of cartilage cel s in each layer and cluster in the control group. Light disordered arrangement of cel s, decreased appearance of the superficial layer cel s and the cluster phenomenon were observed in the study group. Articular cartilage tissue scores were significantly decreased in the study group compared with the control group (P<0.05). The chondrocytes were smal , enlarged intracel ular mitochondria and rough endoplasmic reticulum, cytoplasmic swel ing, col agen fibrils coarse, wel developed Golgi apparatus, and nuclear fragmentation were observed in the control group. In addition, the normal structure of organel es disappeared and cel degeneration was observed in the control group. In the study group, the size of chondrocytes and the Golgi complex and other organel es were normal, and the protein polysaccharide granules were observed in the cytoplasm and membrane. The mRNA expression of matrix metal oproteinase-13 in the study group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). Type II col agen immunoreactivity in the study group was stronger than that in the control group. No incision infection, suppuration, red swel ing appeared in al rabbits. Our results suggest that low-intensity pulsed ultrasound can be used for the treatment of articular cartilage injury by al eviating the degradation of col agen type II and inhibiting the expression of matrix metal oproteinase-13.

OBJECTIVETo provide ideal materials for repair of penile wounds in penis lengthening.
METHODSA skin incision was made between the penis and mons pubis. Penis lengthening was performed by complete releasing of the superficial suspensory ligament and partial releasing of the deep suspensory ligament of the penis. Resurfacing of the defects at the penile base was accomplished by transferring a scrotal dartos musculocutaneous flap pedicled on the anterior scrotal vessels.
RESULTS16 patients with short penis were treated with the method. All scrotal dartos musculocutaneous flaps survived and 4-4.5 cm extra length of the penile shaft was achieved. Appearance and function of the penis were improved.
CONCLUSIONSThe scrotal dartos musculocutaneous flap is one of the best materials to repair the penile skin defects in penile lengthening operation. The advantages of the flap are: 1. good blood supply; 2. thin and lacking of subcutaneous fat; 3. extensibility with the scrotal dartos muscle.

OBJECTIVEThe purpose of this study was to provide the guidelines with respect to the location of the facial vessels, observe the potential reversed flow of the facial artery, and reemphasize the value of color Doppler ultrasound studies in flap planning.
METHODSA study was carried out to investigate the location and dynamics of the facial artery and vein using color Doppler ultrasonography in 12 adults.
RESULTSThe facial artery and the vein were located together at the lower border of the mandible. Around the oral commissure and under the nasal ala, they run apart from each other at variable distances. The reverse flow was observed in the 12 patients after the blood flow of the facial artery was blocked by applying pressure manually at the lower border of the mandible.
CONCLUSIONSThe divergence of the facial vein from the artery is important information in planning of axial pattern flaps. Observation of the reversed flow confirms the possibility of safe elevation of a retrograde flow-arterialized flap based on the distal portion of the facial artery.

Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine 2022;19(1):1-9
BACKGROUND:
As a contour-supporting material, the cartilage has a significant application value in plastic surgery.Since the development of hydrogel scaffolds with sufficient biomechanical strength and high biocompatibility, cell-laden hydrogels have been widely studied for application in cartilage bioengineering. This systematic review summarizes the latest research on engineered cartilage constructed using cell-laden hydrogel scaffolds in plastic surgery.
METHODS:
A systematic review was performed by searching the PubMed and Web of Science databases using selected keywords and Medical Subject Headings search terms.
RESULTS:
Forty-two studies were identified based on the search criteria. After full-text screening for inclusion and exclusion criteria, 18 studies were included. Data collected from each study included culturing form, seed cell types and sources, concentration of cells and gels, scaffold materials and bio-printing structures, and biomechanical properties of cartilage constructs. These cell-laden hydrogel scaffolds were reported to show some feasibility of cartilage engineering, including better cell proliferation, enhanced deposition of glycosaminoglycans and collagen type II in the extracellular matrix, and better biomechanical properties close to the natural state.
CONCLUSION
Cell-laden hydrogels have been widely used in cartilage bioengineering research. Through 3-dimensional (3D) printing, the cell-laden hydrogel can form a bionic contour structure. Extracellular matrix expression was observed in vivo and in vitro, and the elastic modulus was reported to be similar to that of natural cartilage. The future direction of cartilage tissue engineering in plastic surgery involves the use of novel hydrogel materials and more advanced 3D printing technology combined with biochemistry and biomechanical stimulation.

Objective:To explore the clinical effect of digital endoscopic-assisted one-stage rhinoplasty and septoplasty by using subjective and objective methods.Methods:Thirty-two patients with skeletal crooked nose and nasal septum deviated who underwent endoscopic-assisted rhinoplasty and septoplasty were included in this study from January 2015 to January 2020. This study used objective measurements such as 3D digital imaging technology and CT scans, as well as subjective measurements such as Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Rhinoplasty Outcomes Evaluation (ROE) scale, Nasal Obstruction Symptom Evaluation (NOSE) and Functional Rhinoplasty Outcome Inventory (FROI-17) to evaluate the crooked nose morphology and nasal respiratory function before and after surgery. Results:Compared with preoperatively, postoperative 3D facial imaging results showed that the deviation distance and deviation angle of the crooked nose were significantly improved (both P<0.05), and the long-term effect of the operation was stable. Subjectively, the patient's appearance VAS score and ROE score were significantly higher than those before surgery, while the NOSE score and FROI-17 score of nasal congestion symptoms were lower than those before surgery. Conclusions:Endoscope-assisted one-stage rhinoplasty and septoplasty can achieve the purpose of repairing the nose appearance and improving the nasal respiratory function at the same time. Through a combination of subjective and objective evaluations, our study found that this procedure had the advantages of minimally invasive, stable effect and shorter recover time; meanwhile, this procedure has high patients' satisfaction and is worthy of clinical promotion.
