OBJECTIVE:To observe the safety and therapeutic efficacy of low molecular weight heparin calcium in the preven-tion of venous thromboembolism (VTE) of ICU patients. METHODS:572 VTE patients were randomly divided into trial group and control group, with 286 cases in each group. Trial group was given Low molecular weight heparin calcium injection 0.3-0.6 ml, im,qd;control group was given Rivaroxaban tablet 10 mg,po,qd. The incidence of VTE,platelet count, coagulation function, quality score of life and the occurrence of ADR were compared between 2 groups. RESULTS:The incidence of VTE in trial group (0.3%)was significantly lower than control group(2.1%),with statistical significance(P<0.05). There was no statistical signifi-cance in platelet count, prothrombin time,APPT, fibrinogen and other indexes between 2 groups before and after treatment(P>0.05). The physical health, body function and role, general health, emotional role function, mental health and other aspects of trial group were improved significantly, compared to control group, with statistical significance(P>0.05). No obvious ADR was found in 2 groups. CONCLUSIONS:Low molecular weight heparin calcium can effectively prevent VTE and improve the quality of life, while doesn’t influence platelet count and coagulation function with good safety.

The genetically modified mice , as a helpful model , have been widely used in life scientific research . However, several new issues appeared subsequently with the wide application of the genetically modified mice .Here, we mainly discussed and analyzed the problems in the management and usage of genetically modified mice , which underlies the foundation for establishing management practice of the genetically modified mice .

Locoweeds are presently defined as those species of the genera Oxytropis and Astragalus (family Leguminosae) that specifically contain the key toxic constituent, swainsonine. After ingesting locoweeds, livestock can develop poisoning disease characterized by chronic dysfunction of the nervous system, which causes severe economic losses to the pastoral areas. In addition, swainsonine has attracted a great attention from toxicology and medicine fields, due to its dual role of toxicity and pharmacological activity. This review not only summarizes the latest research progress of toxicity and its poisoning mechanism, pharmacological activity, source, and biosynthesis pathway of swainsonine, but also speculates the possible regulatory enzymes involved in the synthesis pathway. Moreover, the future research on swainsonine is also looked ahead, which provide references for the prevention and treatment of locoism.

BACKGROUND:The greatest risk of osteoporosis in total knee arthroplastyisperioperative and long-term periprosthetic fractures. However, limited by the traditional concept of osteoarthritis patientswhousualy not associated with osteoporosis, domestic clinical trials have not given enough attention to the osteoporosis before total knee arthroplasty.
OBJECTIVE:To analyze the osteoporosis and its relative factors in osteoarthritis patients before total knee arthroplasty.
METHODS:Data of 81 cases (81 knees) of knee osteoarthritiswhounderwenttotal knee arthroplasty in the Department of Joint Surgery of Tianjin People’s Hospital from January 2012 to November 2014 were retrospectively analyzed. They received lumbar spine and hip bone mineral density examination before surgery. The correlation of bone mineral density with age, body mass index, knee motion range, and knee deformity was analyzed before surgery. The independent risk factors for osteoporosis before replacement were analyzed.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1) Of 81 patients, there were normal bone mineral density in 25 cases (31%), osteopenia in 35 cases (43%),andosteoporosis in 21 cases (26%). Al 10 males had no osteoporosis and 21 in 71 female cases suffered osteoporosis (30%). Theincidence of osteoporosis in females was significantly higher than in male patients (P=0.046). (2) There was a linear correlation of bone mineral density with age and body mass index (correlation coefficientr=-0.230, 0.225). (3) The age of≥65 years and body mass index≥25 kg/m2were independent risk factors of osteoporosis before replacement (P< 0.05). (4) Patients with knee osteoarthritis had higher incidence of osteopenia and osteoporosis before total knee arthroplasty. The degree of osteoporosis was negatively correlated with age, but positively correlated with body mass index. The age of≥65 years and body mass index < 25 kg/m2were independent risk factors for preoperative osteoporosis. Thus, bone mineral density examination is essential for those patients before total knee arthroplasty.

BACKGROUND:The research of dental stem cells in the fields of regenerative medicine and tissue engineering has been deepening, bringing hope for the repair of tooth-related tissues and the treatment of systemic diseases. However, there is a lack of systematic research and analysis on the biological characteristics of dental stem cells in different age groups. OBJECTIVE:To explore the biological characteristics of the human deciduous tooth and permanent tooth pulp stem cells cultured in umbilical cord blood platelet lysate to provide a reliable basis for human platelet lysates to replace fetal bovine serum. METHODS:The pulp tissues of deciduous teeth, juvenile permanent teeth and adult permanent teeth were taken out and cultured in DMEM/F-12 medium supplemented with 10%fetal bovine serum or different concentrations(5%,10%and 15%)of human platelet lysates.Cell proliferation in the four groups was detected by cytometry. The optimal concentration of human platelet lysates was selected for subsequent experiments.Under the optimal concentration of human platelet lysates, human deciduous tooth and juvenile and adult permanent tooth pulp stem cells were cultured in vitro. The cell growth status was observed under the microscope. The specific antigen on the cell surface was detected by flow cytometry. The cell proliferation ability was tested by the cell counting method and CCK-8 assay. The cell differentiation ability in vitro was observed by a three-line differentiation assay. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1)The cell proliferation rate of the 10%human platelet lysate group was the highest.(2)In all three groups, fusiform fibrous cells grew and expanded from around the tissue block. There was no significant difference between deciduous teeth and juvenile permanent tooth cells, but the adult permanent tooth cells were larger than the deciduous and juvenile permanent tooth cells of the same generation.(3)The results of flow cytometry showed that deciduous teeth, juvenile permanent teeth and adult permanent teeth conformed to the phenotypic characteristics of mesenchymal stem cells.(4)The proliferative capacity of adult permanent dental pulp stem cells was significantly lower than those of deciduous teeth and juvenile permanent dental pulp stem cells(P<0.01).(5)mRNA expressions of osteoblast-related genes alkaline phosphatase and bone morphogenetic protein 2,lipoprotein lipase and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ2,mRNA expressions of chondroblast related gene type II collagen α1 and cartilage oligomeric matrix protein in adult pulp stem cells of permanent teeth were significantly lower than those of deciduous teeth and juvenile permanent teeth pulp stem cells(P<0.01).(6)Compared with adult dental pulp stem cells, human deciduous teeth and juvenile permanent teeth dental pulp stem cells have the stronger proliferative capacity and multidirectional differentiation potential, and are more suitable for clinical research and disease treatment.
