BACKGROUND: The complicated localization of intramedullary nails and osteotomy more dependent on surgeons' experience limit the application of conventional total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The occurrence of three-dimensional (3D) printing technology can achieve precise localization and osteotomy in TKA.OBJECTIVE: To explore the effectiveness of 3D printing technology-aided TKA versus conventional TKA for genu varum.METHODS: Thirty-four patients with genu varum undergoing primary unilateral TKA were recruited and were then divided into two groups (n=17 per group) in accordance with the random number table. One group was treated with TKA with 3D printing guild plate (3D printing group), while the other group received the conventional TKA (conventional group).The intraoperative and postoperative blood loss, operation time, as well as the Hospital for Special Surgery score, range of motion, and lower limb mechanical alignment at 2 weeks postoperatively were compared between two groups.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: (1) The range of motion of knee in the 3D printing group was larger than that in the conventional group, but had no significant difference at 2 weeks postoperatively (P=0.744). (2) There was no significant difference in the Hospital for Special Surgery scores between two groups at 2 weeks postoperatively (P= 0.532). (3) The postoperative lower limb mechanical alignment showed no significant difference between two groups (t=0.218, P=0.632).(4) The operation time in the 3D printing group was significantly shorter than that in the conventional group (P=0.000). (5) The blood loss in the 3D printing group was significantly less than that in the conventional group (P=0.000). (6) Our findings indicate that 3D printing technology-aided TKA exhibits similar results to the conventional TKA in the Hospital for Special Surgery scores, range of motion, and lower limb mechanical alignment, but it shortens the operation time,reduces the blood loss, and achieves precise osteotomy, which is available for the elderly with poor basic condition, and weak tolerance of surgery.

Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of sertraline combined with brain function treatment instrument for depressive episodes.Methods According to sequence of hospitalization,80 patients with depression without severe physical disease randomly divided into sertraline with brain function treatment group (40 cases,group A) and only take sertraline group (40 cases,group B),and two groups were given Sertraline 100 mg/day for 8 weeks.24 Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD-24) and 20 Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS-20) were assessed before and after 1,2,4,6,8 weekend treatment.Results The scores of HAMD-24 and SDS-20 were not significant difference between the two groups before treatment(P＞0.05),but there were statistically significant after treatment (P＜0.05).They were significantly decreased after 8 weeks treatment in group A and were decreased slightly in group B with HAMD-24 and SDS-20.Clinical efficiencies of HAMD of the two groups were 87.2 ％,76.3 ％,respectively,and those of SDS were 89.7 ％,78.9 ％,respectively.Clinical efficacy in group A was significantly better than that in group B (P＜0.05).Conclusion Sertraline with brain function treatment instrument can shorten the onset time and improve its effect.

To evaluate the efficacy and accuracy of photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) for myopia and myopic astigmatism .SVS APEX excimer laser with a wave length of 193 nm(Sumit Technology Inc. Waltham, Mass, USA) was applied. 316 myopic eyes of 168 patients were treated with PRK between September, 1996 and October, 1997, and 260 eyes (84%) of 150 patients were followed for more than three months, including male 68(116 eyes, 40.1%) and female 82(144 eyes, 59.9%). The preoperative spherical equivalent refractive errors ranged from -1.25D to -10.00 (mean -4.67±1.63D), and astigmatism ranged from 0 to -2.00D (means -0.33±0.45D). We divided the patients into two groups according to the referaction: group A (from -1.25D to -5.90D) and group B(from -6.00 to -10.00D). The number of eyes in the two groups were 220 and 40 respectively. In group A, on the 10th day, 68.9% has the uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) equal to or one line better or lower than the preoperative best corrected visual acuity (BCVA). In 1,3,6 and 12 months, 90%, 96%, 95% and 94% had the UCVA equal to or one line better or lower than the preoperative BCVA respectively. In group B, on the 10 th day, in 1,3,6 and 12 months, UCVA equal to or one line better or lower than the preoperative BCVA occurred in 35.9%, 83%, 87%, 86%, and 84% of the cases respectively. Most of the haze showed 0.5～1 grades except 3 eyes with the haze of 2 grade in 3 or 6 months and it changed to 1 and 0.5 grade respectively within one year. In 10 days and 1,3,6,12 months postoperatively, the corneal haze was noted in 32.9%, 84.8%, 62.8%,9.0% and 2.8% of the treated eyes respectively. We found that 193 nm excimer laser PRK was a predictable, safe, stable, and effective refractive surgery for correcting myopia up to -10.00D in Chinese patients, and the effect was better in myopia lower than -6.00D.

A sensing method based on high-speed camera is proposed to recognize human arm motion in this paper. A sensing system for human arm motion was established. A fast image processing algorithm was developed to accurately extract marker positions in the image. Angle parameter results were further improved with the instantaneous joint center principle. The human motion information results can serve as the research references of medical treatment, gym, bionics, and so on. The sensing method can also be applied to other fields of the human motion recognition.

Objective To investigate the effects of Trim34α on the activation of luciferase reporter gene containing NF-κB promoter induced by adaptor proteins TAB2. Methods The total RNA was isolated from HeLa cells. After amplification with RT-PCR, the target sequences were cloned into 5'-Flag-pcDNA3.1 (+) vector. The recombinant vector was confirmed by restriction enzyme digestion, colony PCR and sequencing. It was transfected into HEK293T cells to detected Trim34α expression by Western blot. Simultaneously, the effects of Trim34α on the NF-κB activation induced by TAB2 were determined by dual-luciferase reporter assay. Results Restriction enzyme digestion, colony PCR and sequencing confirmed the vector was constructed successfully, furthermore it expressed Trim34α protein in HEK293T cells. Moreover, trim34α could form high-molecular-weight oligomeric protein, and here we called it trimsome. Interestingly, dual-luciferase assay showed that Trim34α could effectively block TAB2-induced NF-κB activation. Conclusion Trim34α was involved in negative regulation of TAB2-induced NF-κB activation and could form high-molecular-weight oligomer.

Objective To explore the relationship between the osteonecrotic volume (lesion size), angle and the index of necrotic extent on the femoral head. Methods Fifty-one hips in 39 patients with non-traumatic avascular osteonecrosis on the femoral head were divided into 12 equal segments from the head to the neck junction (a turning point of the spherical curve of the head) with whole hip displacement, each with 30 degrees on a coronal plane of weight-bearing surface. The osteonecrotic angle of the arc of each necrotic segment from the center of the femoral head was measured at the point of one- to 12-o'clock on imaging of two dimensional reconstruction of computerized tomography (CT) scans and anteroposterior and lateral radiographs. Necrotic volume on each segment of the femoral head was calculated with fluid displacement method. The index of osteonecrotic extent on the femoral head was calculated using direct anatomical measurements. Results Osteoneerotic volume on the femoral head at the point of 12- to one-o'clock on coronal plane was (74. 5 ± 7.4)% of the sphere equivalent of the whole femoral head, which was positively correlated to its necrotic angle [ (41.9±8. 3) degrees] at the point of one-o'clock on the plane, with a coefficient of correlation of 0. 843, and that at the point of one- to two-o'clock on the plane was (73.7 ±0. 4) %, which was positively correlated to its necrotic angle [ (41.9 ± 1.8) degrees] at the point of two-o'clock, with a coefficient of correlation of 0. 543. Osteonecrotic volume on the point of 11- to 12-o'cleck was (83.6±8.6)%, and the necrotic angle at the point of 12-o'clock was (44. 9±3.9) degrees, which were positively correlated each other, with a coefficient of correlation of 0. 701 (P <0. 01 ). Osteonecrotic volume on the femoral head was positively correlated to its necrotic angle , modified index of necrotic extent, index of necrotic extent and Kerboul conjugated necrotic angle, with coefficients of correlation of 0. 798, 0. 701, 0. 377 and 0. 398 ( P < 0. 01 ), respectively, at the point of one o' clock. Conclusions Measurements of osteonecrotic volume was positively correlated to the index of necrotic extent and necrotic angle on the femoral head, respectively. Necrotic angle on the plane at 30-degree of the trochanter on the femoral head can well reflect its necrotic volume.

Objective To study the antitumor effects on human prostate cancer cell lines of a traditional Chinese medicine named atractylodes macrocephala koidz volatile oil in vitro.Methods LNCaP and DU145 cell lines were normally cultured and were divided into 4 control groups including:Blank culture without serum and without cell (group A),Blank culture with serum but without cell (group B),LNCaP cell culture with serum (group C),DU145 cell culture with serum (group D).In the meanwhile,there were 6 experimental groups:adding 50 μg/ml of atractylodes macrocephala koidz volatile oil in culture of group C1 and group D1,250ug/ml in group C2 and group D2,and 500ug/ml in group C3 and group D3.All of the 10 groups were simultaneously cultured in 24-well-plates for 48 hrs,and each group was repeatedly studied for three times.Forty-eight hours later,every 2 × 106 cells of LNCaP or DU145 was seeded into each well and atractylodes macrocephala koidz volatile oil was added in 6 experimental groups,and saline water was added into 4 control groups.Another 48 hrs later,the culture solutions of the 10 groups were separately collected for testosterone (T),estradiol (E2),progesterone (P),vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF),basic fibroblast growth factor (b-FGF),total prostate specific antigen (tPSA) and free prostate specific antigen (fPSA) analysis with enzyme-linked immunoassay kits.The experiment was repeated for 3 times,and the mean data were statistically analyzed by SPSS One-way ANOVA.Results The growth of cultured cells was found to have been effectively inhibited in group C1 and group D2.The inhibition severity of LNCaP cells was positively related with the drug concentration and time,while DU145 cells could only be highly inhibited (60.96％) after 24hrs drug treatments.In group C and group D,we found that both T were in very low level (0 ng/ml) whereas both E2 were in high levels (269 pg/ml and 239.81 pg/ml,P ＜ 0.05),no distinct differences showed in P; In addition,VEGF,b-FGF and fPSA were all in high values,whose values were 102.96 pg/ml and 1763.40 pg/ml,0.26 ng/ml and 6.41 ng/ml,0.16 ng/ml and 0.44 ng/ml,respectively; DU145 cells had higher values than LNCaP cells (P ＜ 0.05).As regard to the 6 experimental groups,in the groups C1,C2,C3 and D3,we found that T had been unexpectedly increased from 0 to 0.37 ng/ml (P ＜ 0.05),E2 continuously elevated from 239.81 pg/ml to 649.90 pg/ml (P ＜0.05),surprisingly P were also increased from 0.98 ng/ml to 9.83 ng/ml (P ＜0.01).On the contrary,VEGF,b-FGF and fPSA levels were all graduallydecreased,dropping down to 47.79 pg/ml and 59.56pg/ml,0 and 1.79 ng/ml,0 and 0.11 ng/ml,respectively; nevertheless,in group C2 and group D2,fPSA values were surprisingly increased from 0 and 0.04 ng/ml up to 1.78 ng/ml and 0.23 ng/ml respectively.Conclusions Atractylodes macrocephala koidz volatile oil has certain anti-tumor effects on human prostate cancer.Compared with LNCaP cells,DU145 cells have many different characteristics in sex hormone,cytokine and PSA expressions.

Objective To evaluate the relationship of preoperative neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) with clinicopathological features and prognosis of colorectal cancer in middle-aged and elderly patients.Methods A retrospective analysis was performed in 212 patients with colorectal cancer in the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from January 2011 to June 2013.All patients were divided into middle-aged group (46-65 year old,n=130) and old-aged group (66-89 year old,n=82),The optimal cut-off point of NLR was identified by the area under receiver operating characteristic curve,while NLR ＞ 3.13 and NLR≤3.13 were classified as high and low NLR group.The clinicopathological features and prognosis between the two groups were compared.Results There was no difference in gender,tumor growth site,depth of invasion,tumor embolus,lymphatic metastasis,distant metastasis,TNM stage between low and high NLR group (allP＞ 0.05).However,the difference between high NLR group and low NLR group in old-aged group with diabetes mellitus was statistically significant (P＜0.05).The 1-,2-,and 3-year survival rate of the overall 212 patients were 96.2％ (204/212),87.7％ (186/212) and 74.5％ (158/212) In middle-aged group,the 1-,2-,and 3-year survival rates were 98.8％ (85/86),90.7％ (78/86) and 84.9％ (73/86) respectively in low NLR group,but 95.5％ (42/44),84.1％ (37/44) and 72.7％ (32/44) respectively in high NLR group,(allP＜0.05).In old-aged group,the 1-,2-,and 3-year survival rates were 95.7％ (44/46),89.1％ (41/46) and 73.9％ (34/46) respectively in low NLR group,but 91.7％ (33/ 36),83.3％ (30/36) and 52.8％ (19/36) respectively in high NLR group (all P＜0.05).Cox regression showed that TNM stage and NLR were independent risk factors for the prognosis of the middle-aged and elderly patients with colorectal cancer (P＜0.05 or P＜0.01).Conclusions Preoperative NLR ＞ 3.13 suggest that the prognosis is poor in middle-aged and elderly patients with colorectal cancer.

The differences in intracellular and extracellular protein expressions between human prostate cancer lines LNCap and DU145 were examined. The proteins of the two cell lines were extracted and condensed by using protein extraction kits. And the intracellular and extracellular proteins were quantitatively detected on a micro-plate reader by using bicinchoninic acid (BCA) method. The proteins in cell culture fluid were qualitatively assayed by SELDI-TOF-MS. The results showed that the intracellular protein contents of LNCap cells were extremely higher than those of DU145 cells. After serum-free culture, both intracellular and extracellular protein contents of LNCap and DU145 were decreased to some extent. And the intracellular proteins were decreased by 5% in LNCap and by 36% in DU145 respectively, while the extracellular proteins were decreased by 89% in LNCap and 96% in DU145 respectively. SELDI assay revealed that there were 5 marker proteins in LNCap and 6 in DU145. Although both LNCap and DU145 cell lines originated from human prostate cancer, they had some differences in protein expression.
