The postnatal development of the efferent projections to the lumbosacral spinal cord from the brain stem of rats were studied with HRP retrograde transport method. Fifty per cent solution of HRP was slowly injected into the intumescentia lumbalis on its right side in 18 albino rats from postnatal 1-35 days. The HRP labelled cells were found in the following nuclei:1. Of the midbrain: the nucleus ruber, substantia nigra and nucleus raphe dorsalis.2. Of the pons: the nucleus reticularis pontis oralis, nucleus reticularis pontis caudalis, locus coeruleus, nucleus subcoeruleus, nucleus raphe magnus, nucleus vestibularis lateralis, and nucleus vestibularis medialis.3. Of the medulla oblongata: the nucleus raphe obscurus, nucleus raphe pallidus, nucleus reticularis ventralis, nucleus reticularis gigantocellularis, nucleus reticularis lateralis, nucleus tractus spinalis nervi trigemini, nucleus commissuralis (Cajal), nucleus prepositus hypoglossi, and nucleus gracilis. The number of the labelled cells in the above nuclei increased steadily with age. The results of present study showed that there was a postnatal developmental process in the efferent projections from the brain stem to the lumbosacral cord. The maturity of the projections from ruber nucleus and locus coeruleus were later than those of the vestibulospinal and reticulospinal tracts. The postnatal developmental process of the brain stem projections to the lumbosacral spinal cord were completed by one month after birth.

An intercostal nerve-spinal cord implantation and semitransection of the spinalcord at the point between the origin and insertion of the intercostal nerve was madeon ten adult dogs and two monkeys. One to two weeks after this operation,paraly-tic legs following semitransection of the spinal cord recoverded from the paralysis. The implanted nerves were cut during the different period from 124 to 366 days. The function of the legs of four animals which had recovered paralysed again aftersurgical section of implanted nerve.Histologically, the inserted nerves in the spinalcord were recognized in these animals. Many of the growing fibers extended fromdistal end of the inserted intercostal nerve into the gray and white matter ofthe distal segment of the spinal cord.It is considered that the efficacy of the inter-costal nerve-spinal cord implantation depends upon the choice of the symptomaticindications and the success of the implantation procedure.

Objective To analyze the Oncomelania hupensis snail situation in schistosomiasis surveillance sites in Hubei Province from 2009 to 2014. Methods From 2009 to 2014,207 schistosomiasis endemic villages from 13 cities were selected as the surveillance sites in Hubei Province, where the surveillance of snail situation was performed, and the data about the in?dexes of snail situation during the 6 years were collected and analyzed statistically. Results From 2009 to 2014,totally 80 963.47 hm2 of snail areas were investigated, and 45 309.77 hm2 of area with snails as well as 364.93 hm2 of area with infected snails were found out,and 1 646 125 snails were captured. In the 207 surveillance sites, the density of living snails was reduced from 0.493 3 snail/0.1 m2 in 2009 to 0.339 3 snail/0.1 m2 in 2014,with a decline rate of 31.22%;the density of infected snails was reduced from 0.000 7 snail/0.1 m2 in 2009 to 0 in 2014;the infection rate of snails was reduced from 0.14%in 2009 to 0 in 2014. The infection rates of snails in the third?rank villages, endemic areas in inner embankment, ditch environment and weed environment were relatively higher. Conclusions The snail situation of Hubei Province has been declined steadily. However, the environment of snail breeding has not been changed completely. In order to consolidate the control achievements further ,the measures including mollusciciding and snail control projects should be strengthened.

Objective To improve the gene targeting efficiency with C57BL/6 embryonic stem ( ES) cells.Meth-ods Three different genetically modified C57BL/6 ES cell lines, named TLX3, Ai3K and SL, were microinjected into ICR, B6( Cg)-Tyrc-2J and BALB/c mouse blastocysts, respectively. The efficiency was statistically evaluated according to three aspects:blastocyst collection, chimera production and germline transmission. Results None of the three ES cell lines was germline transmitted with B6(Cg)-Tyrc-2J mice as blastocyst donors, while it was achieved with both BALB/c and ICR mouse blastocysts.Compared in the aspect of blastocysts collection, ICR mouse was much better than BALB/c mouse (P<0.05), and the chimera production efficiency of ICR mouse was comparable to that of BALB/c mouse (P =0.115). As to the germline transmission efficiency, that of BALB/c mice is significantly higher than that of the ICR mice ( P<0.01).Conclusions The germline transmission efficiency of BALB/c mouse is highest among these three mouse strains. However, it has the disadvantages of blastocyst collection, developmental delay and zona pellucida fragility, compared with ICR mouse. Therefore, ICR mouse is also a good candidate as blastocyst donor for embryonic stem cell microinjection.

A HPLC method for simultaneous determination of uridine, inosine, guanosine, adenosine and cordycepine
in Cordyceps sinensis was developed. The sample solution was prepared with 0.5% phosphoric acid solution by ultrasonic extraction. The separation was performed on a ZORBAX SB-AQ (150 mmí4.6 mm, 5 μm)column with gradient elution by 0.1% formic acid solution and acetonitrile, with column temperature 30℃, at a flow rate of 0.8 mL/min, and detected at wavelength of 260 nm. The result of method validation showed that the developed method had high accuracy and good repeatability. This method has been successfully applied for analysis of 5 kinds of nucleosides in different parts of C. sinensis. The results indicated that content of nucleosides in stroma is higher than that in insect body and whole C. sinensis.
