OBJECTIVETo observe the effects of Di' ao Xinxuekang Soft Capsule (DK) on the plasma levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD), malondialdehyde (MDA), nitric oxide (NO), and endothelin (ET) in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD), and to study its underlying mechanisms.
METHODSTotally 100 patients with CHD confirmed by coronary angiography were randomly assigned to two groups, the control group (60 cases) and the DK treatment group (40 cases). Patients in the control group received conventional therapy, while those in the DK treatment group received DK additionally. The therapeutic course for all was 3 months. The plasma levels of SOD, MDA, ET, and NO were determined pre-treatment, 4, 8, and 12 weeks after treatment.
RESULTSCompared with before treatment, the serum levels of SOD and NO increased and the levels of MDA and ET decreased at each time point. Besides, better effects were obtained in the DK treatment group (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONDK possibly played a role in inhibiting lipid peroxidation and improving the endothelial dysfunction.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the placement of a long tube into the small intestine under fluoroscopic guidance and to evaluate its decompression effect on early postoperative small bowel obstruction (EPSBO).
METHODSFifty-four patients with EPSBO requiring decompression between April 2010 and July 2014 were enrolled in the study. Insertion of a long tube was guided by fluoroscopy. We first used the guide wire to pass the pylorus and then used the 10 Fr feeding tube as an exchangeable tube to put the superstiff wire into the duodenum. Finally the long tube could be passed over the guide wire through the pylorus into the intestine. The total procedure time, the radiation exposure time, and the incidence of complications were evaluated.
RESULTSThe long tubes passed into the jejunum on initial insertion for all patients, so the success rate of this technique was 100%. The long tube was inserted into ileum in 18 patients. The mean total procedure time was 34.4 ± 8.6 minutes, and the mean radiation exposure time 18.9 ± 6.8 minutes. A total of 47 patients (87%) experienced full recovery following long-tube decompression and without the need for surgical intervention.
CONCLUSIONSUsing the wire-exchange technique, it is easy to place a long tube into the small bowel under fluoroscopic guidance. This decompression method is safe and effective for management of EPSBO.

Objective To compare the pathogenicity between Ureaplasma urealyticum serotype 1 (Up1)and 8 (Uu8) in the genital tract of BALB/c mice. Methods A total of 48 BALB/c mice were randomly and equally divided into four groups:blank control group receiving no treatment, estradiol group pretreated with intramuscular injection of estradiol followed by intravaginal inoculation with sterial liquid culture media,Up1 and Uu8 groups pretreated with intramuscular injection of estradiol followed by intravaginal inoculation with suspensions of Up1 and Uu8 respectively.Three mice were randomly selected from each group to be sacrificed after the collection of vaginal lavage fluid on day 3,7,14 and 21 after the inoculation.Vaginal and uterine tissue specimens were obtained from these sacrificed mice and underwent hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining.Vaginal lavage fluid samples were subjected to culture of Uu and measurement of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α).Results No evidences were observed for Uu growth in either the blank control group or estradiol group at any of the time points after the inoculation, with the average level of TNF-α in vaginal lavage fluid being (4.17 ± 0.85) pg/ml at these time points in both groups.Uu grew in all the vaginal lavage fluid samples from the Up1 and Uu8 groups at the four time points, with the color change unit (CCU) value decreasing with time. The level of TNF-α in vaginal lavage fluid peaked on day 14 after the inoculation in the Up 1 ((14.93 ± 1.11) pg/ml) and Uu8 ((27.04 ± 24.26) pg/ml) groups. Both Up1 and Uu8 infection caused acute and chronic inflammatory responses in the mice, which were mainly located in the uterus, and Up1 might cause intrauterine adhesion. Conclusions At the same inoculation concentration,no significant difference is found in the pathogenicity between Up1 and Uu8,both of which appear to mainly cause cervicitis.Upl might be partially responsible for intrauterine adhesion in mice.

Objective To investigate the association of the polymorphism of rs3750344 and rs1435252 of G-protein family GABABR2 gene with obesity in population of Uygur and Han. Methods 785 Uygur subjects from Xinjiang and 425 Han subjects from Jinan Maternity and Child Care Hospital were recruited by epidemiology survey. Exposure indicators such as body mass index (BMI), total cholesterol (Tch), triglyceride (TG), fasting glucose (Glu) concentration were measured. Two single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of rs3750344 and rs1435252 of GABABR2 gene were typed with Taqman. Linkage disequilibrium and haplotype were analysed with Haploview software. Results The frequency of rs1435252 was significantly different in AA carries of Uygur subjects between overweight group (12.5%) and normal weight group (6.6%), the subject with AA genotype significantly increased risk of overweight (OR=1.43, 95% CI: 1.06~1.91). The frequency of rs1435252 was significantly different in A alleles carries of Han subjects between obesity group (80.0%) and normal weight group (65.2%), the subject with A alleles significantly increased risk of obesity (OR=2.13, 95%CI: 1.18~3.86). The C alleles of rs3750344 significantly decreased risk of obesity (OR=0.69, 95%CI: 0.49~0.97) in Uygur, but the significance disappeared after controlling for covariates of age and gender. Conclusion The rs1435252 A allele of GABABR2 gene is a risk factor for overweight or obesity in population of Uygur and Han.

OBJECTIVE:
To explore the general reproductive toxicity in mice exposed to low-level ozone.
METHODS:
Low-level (0.09 approximately 0.18 mg/m3) ozone was created by 15 W ultraviolet light. The mice in 3 experimental groups and a control group were fed in low-level ozone environment or normal environment, respectively, and then the mating experiment was conducted. The pregnancy rate and the weight variations of the female mice were observed. The weight of the live fetuses was observed, and the appearance, bone and internal organs were checked for malformation.
RESULTS:
There were no significant differences in any indexes between the experimental groups and the control group.
CONCLUSION
Low-level ozone created by 15 W ultraviolet light may not have reproductive toxicity in mice.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the relationship between germ cell apoptosis and expressions of Bcl-2 and Bax in contralateral testes of experimental unilateral cryptorchid rats.
METHODSTwenty male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 2 groups (namely cryptorchid group and control group), with 10 rats in each group. Cryptorchid animal model was established, and contralateral testes were captured 90 days later. The evidence of germ cell apoptosis was detected by TUNEL assay. The expressions of Bcl-2 and Bax were detected by immunohistochemical method.
RESULTSIn the contralateral testes of experimental unilateral cryptorchidism, apoptosis index of germ cell and Bax expression significantly increased compared with those in the control group, respectively (P < 0.01), while Bcl-2 expression and testis weight obviously decreased (P <0.01). The apoptotic cells were mostly pachytene spermatocytes and round spermatids.
CONCLUSIONThe germ cell apoptosis is highly correlated with expressions of Bcl-2 and Bax in contralateral testes of experimental unilateral cryptorchidism. Bcl-2/Bax plays an important role in germ cell apoptosis.
