Objective To establish a model of deep venous thrombosis (DVT) in rabbits. Methods Animal models of venous thrombosis were made by blocking venous flow with a vascular clamp temporarily, injuring the vascular wall, and injecting thrombin in the distal vein in one side of rabbits. Then fixed the hip and knee joints of the operated sides in the flection position with plaster. 48 h later, the femoral veins on both sides were examined with the ultrasonography and pathology. Results All the rabbits survived after operation. The ultrasonography showed that the femoral veins on both sides were virtually anechoic. However, the veins on the operated sides couldn't be compressed and no flow was detected, the control sides were just the reverse. The veins on the operated side were filled with thrombus which had not adhered on the wall, but no thrombosis occurred in the control side. Conclusion A model of DVT was established in rabbits.

Objective To establish a big animal model of secondary infection of acute necrotizing pancreatitis (ANP). Methods Thirty young pigs were allocated to experiment group ( n = 20 ) or control group (n = 10). The ANP model was induced by retrograde injection of a mixture solution of 5% sodium taurocholate and 5% trypsin (0. 5 ml/kg body weight) into the main pancreatic duct and ligation of the proximal end of the main pancreatic duct, and then the second step was injecting 3 ~ 4 ml living Escherichia coli (E coli) suspension (108/ml) to the necrotic area of the pancreas by fine needle aspiration technique under CT guidance in the experiment group, and by injecting 3 ~ 4 ml inactivated E coli in the control group using the same method. Multi-slice spiral CT dynamic enhanced scan was performed in both groups 1 day and 2 or 3 days after ANP modeling and 5 days after bacterial injection to calculate the CTSI score. Serum amylase, blood WBC count and blood bacterial culture was performed in both groups. 5 days later, the animals were scarified to observe the infected or necrosis foci, and perform smear, bacterial culture and pathologic examinations of the tissue around the infected or necrosis foci. Results The ANP secondary infection model was successfully established in 16 of the 20 animals in the study group, with a success rate of the 80.0% (16/20). There were 17 foci where the positive rate of bacterial culture was 100% (17/17 foci), and the success rate of blood bacterial culture was 68.8%(11/16). In the control group, the ANP model was established successfully in 7 of 10 animals (70%), except for one case of contamination, only one foci was identified;the positive rate of bacterial culture and the success rate of b|ood bacterial culture was 14.3% (1/7). Serum amylase and white blood WBC count increased with similar trends, WBC count in the study group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P<0.01). The mean CT severity index(CTSI) was all ≥4 in beth groups, indicating the severity was moderate to severe. Conclusions A stable and reliable model of secondary infection of ANP in big could be established satisfactorily by injecting active E. coli into the pancreatic necrosis tissue under CT guidance, which helps further pathogenic mechanism studies and clinical studies, especially imaging studies.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the long-time effect on allitridum and selenium in preventing cancer of digestive system.
METHODSPersons who were recruited into the intervention group and took allitridum and selenium to prevent gastric cancer in Qixia county of China from 1989-1991 were followed up to 2001 and data of deaths was collected. The long effect on allitridum and selenium in preventing cancer of digestive system was analysed.
RESULTSData were compared to placebo group five years (1992-1996) after the termination of intervention to have found that the accumulative mortality rate of all cancer, digestive system cancer and gastric cancer had decreased 45.5%, 41.2% and 63.3% in the intervention group respectively. By stratum analysis, accumulative mortality rate of all cancer, digestive system cancer and gastric cancer had decreased 51.5%, 51.5% and 67.7% in males of the intervention group, respectively. Relative risks for males in the intervention group were 0.48, 0.47 and 0.30 times more than the placebo group, respectively. All of them were statistically significant. Relative risks for females in the intervention group were 0.74, 0.92 and 0.70 times more than placebo group. Six to ten years later after the termination of intervention, the accumulative mortality rate and relative risk of all cancers in two groups became similar.
CONCLUSIONAllitridum and selenium had the effect of decreasing the incidence risk of digestive cancer with a protective rate more than 50% for five years after the termination of intervention program.

China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica 2014;39(4):558-565
OBJECTIVEIn order to provide scientific basis for introduction breeding and production regionalization of Panax notoginseng, the environment of producing area, agronomic traits and medicinal material output were investigated.
METHODUsing field survey sampling at harvest time, agronomic traits indicators of leaf segment, stem segment and roots segment etc. of commodity P. notoginseng, longitude and latitude, elevation, soil type, landform of producing area were measured and observed.
RESULTThe P. notogiseng cultivation was expanding from traditional area like Wenshang to new areas as Honghe, Kunming, Qujing at large scale. Comparing with traditional cultivated fields, the elevation of new fields, which are red soil of moderate or low mountain slopes and gentle hills between 1 800-2 130 m, increases markedly. The agronomic traits of new cultivated fields such as plant height, stem diameter, the ground and underground biomass were better than those of traditional cultivated fields in varying degree. Furthermore, the root weight, taproot weight, taproot length and other agronomic index augmented more than 20%. Comparison among different cultivated fields showed P. notoginseng of Honghe Shiping Niujie, Kunming Shilin Guishan, Honghe Jiangshui Guanting etc. had better agronomic traits, the plant were thick and tall, the taproot and the top of reed were large, the number of root was more. Inversely, P. notoginseng of Kunming Guandu Xiaoshao, Guangxi Jingxi Lutong, Wenshang Yanshan Jiangna were thin and small. Cluster analysis showed that cultivated fields of P. notoginseng which was across clustered by traditional and new cultivated fields can be divided into three groups, including a high-yielding region insist of three new cultivated fields Honghe Shiping Niujie, Kunming Shilin Guishan, Honghe Jiangshui Guanting and one traditional cultivated field Wenshan Yanshan Jiangna. Correlation analysis indicated that the size and weight of taproot and top of reed were significantly positive correlated with plant height, stem diameter, leaf size, leaf weight and stem weight. Regression analysis pointed out that stem diameter, leaf width, leaf length/width, leaf weight were the main factors affecting the dry weight of taproot, and the main factors influencing the dry weight of top of reed were plant height, petiole, leaf length, leaf width and other agronomic traits.
CONCLUSIONFrom agronomic traits, P. notoginseng in new cultivated fields were more robust than that in traditional fields, but besides the length of taproot, the difference of rest agronomic traits didn't reach the significant level. It is suggested that, in the west and the north of traditional area, the red soil land of moderate or low mountain slopes and gentle hills where the elevation is between 1 800-2 130 m is suitable for cultivating P. notoginseng. Honghe Shiping Niujie, Honghe Jianshui Guanting, Kuming Shilin Gongshan can be used as vital development area for commodity P. notoginseng.

Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2012;26(20):928-930
OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the diagnosis and management of non-pituitary lesions in sphenoidal sinus.
METHOD:
All cases with non-pituitary lesions in sphenoidal sinus were confirmed by CT scan. Eight cases with localized lesions underwent operation by trans-sphenoidal approach. Two cases with juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma with invasion to the sphenoid sinus were treated by trans-septal approach. The rest received operation by trans-superior meatal or trans-ethmoidal approach.
RESULT:
Forty-five of these cases underwent complete or major resection of the lesion by endoscopic sphenoid sinus surgery, including 23 cyst and pus cyst of sphenoidal sinus, 8 fungal sphenoid sinusitis, 2 bleeding polyp of sphenoidal sinus, 1 post- hypophysectomy granulation hyperplasia of sphenoidal sinus , 5 papilloma of sphenoid sinus, 1 cerebrospinal rhinorrhea of sphenoid sinus, 2 ossified fibroma of sphenoid sinus,2 juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma with invasion to the sphenoid sinus, 1 meningioma of ethmoid and sphenoid sinus. Three cases with hematoma in sphenoidal sinus and pseudoaneurysm in internal carotid artery underwent nasal endoscopic examination, and the diagnosis was established by DSA, and they received interventional therapy. Three cases with malignancy of sphenoidal sinus received major mass resection of sphenoidal sinus by trans-ethmoidal approach, and followed with radio therapy and chemotherapy. Two cases with NPC involving sphenoidal sinus were treated by radio therapy and chemotherapy after pathological examination.
CONCLUSION
Headache and visual loss were two common symptoms for the lesions in sphenoidal sinus. Imaging study including CT, MRI and DSA is very important for the diagnosis of the lesions in sphenoidal sinus. There are various surgical pathways to deal with sphenoidal sinus diseases under nasal endoscope. The operation will be direct, safe and minimal invasive if we choose the pathway properly.
