1.Progress in the study of transient hypothyroidism in neonates

With the nationwide popularization of neonatal heel blood screening, and the change of screening standards and the improvement of premature infant survival rate, the incidence of congenital hypothyroidism in newborns has been increasing year by year.Some of these children need to take medication for all lifetime to maintain normal thyroid function, this is called persistent congenital hypothyroidism, while others don′t, is called transient congenital hypothyroidism.Causes of transient hypothyroidism include iodine deficiency, maternal thyrotrophin receptor blocker antibodies, maternal antithyroid medication, maternal or neonatal iodine exposure, premature delivery, and neonatal hepatic hemangioma.In this review, the author describes the etiology and management of children with transient hypothyroidism, meanwhile summarize several predictors of transient hypothyroidism.
2.NEURAL NETWORK TRAINING WITH PARALLEL PARTICLE SWARM OPTIMIZER

Objective To reduce the execution time of neural network training. Methods Parallel particle swarm optimization algorithm based on master-slave model is proposed to train radial basis function neural networks, which is implemented on a cluster using MPI libraries for inter-process communication. Results High speed-up factor is achieved and execution time is reduced greatly. On the other hand, the resulting neural network has good classification accuracy not only on training sets but also on test sets. Conclusion Since the fitness evaluation is intensive, parallel particle swarm optimization shows great advantages to speed up neural network training.
3.Ocular toxicity of intravitreal injection of triamcinolone acetonide in rabbit eyes

Objective To evaluate the toxicity of intravitreal injection of triamcinolone acetonide on the cornea,lens,ciliary body and retina in rabbit eyes. Methods Thirty-two gray rabbits were divided into four groups(n=8).The rabbits were intravitreally injected with buffered saline solution(control group),4 mg triamcinolone acetonide(group B),1.3 mg triamcinolone acetonide(group C) and vehicle(group D).Intraocular pressure,scotopic and photopic electroretinogram examinations were performed before injection and at different time points after injection.Histologic and ultrastructural changes were observed 1 week,1 month and 3 months after injection. 4.Study of intelligence and psychomotor function in children aged 6 - 15 years and born pre and post universal salt iodization in Henan province in 2009

Objective Investigation and analysis of intelligence and psychomotor function in children born after implementingt universal salt iodization(USI). Methods Historical serious illness areas of water iodine below 10μg/L were selected as study sites, water iodine in 50 - 100 μg/L in the historical non-endemic areas were as control points in Henan, 2008. Cluster sampling was used to select children aged 6 - 15 years as observing subjects,IQ were measured with CRT- Man Test(CRT-C2). A "Tianjin Medical psychomotor test battery" (JPB) was carry out to test psychomotor function. Results In IDD regions 230 children were surveyed post-USI and 1284 children preUSI. The IQs post and pre USI were 99.3 and 99.9, respectively, and the proportion of IQ ≤69 were 2.17%(6/230) and 2.80%(36/1284), respectively. In non-IDD regions 650 children were surveyed post-USI and 2079children pre-USI. The IQs post and pre USI were 95.3 and 93.8, respectively, and the proportion of IQ ≤ 69 were 2.31%(15/650) and 3.37%(70/2079), respectively. In IDD regions, the abnormal rate of T scores and damage index post USI were 3.6%(2/56), 5.3%(3/56), respectively, significantly lower than pre USI [18.1%(29/160),18.1%(29/160), x2 = 7.54, 6.86, all P < 0.01]. Conclusions USI could increase the IQs of children and decrease the positive rate of JPB, and significantly improve the quality of whole nation and persistently eliminating IDD.

PURPOSE Anti-cancer drug treatment induces cell death by apoptosis, whether the gene p53 undergoes mutant changes is found to have a close relationship with anti-cancer drugs. The aim of this work is to investigate the role that p53 plays in the 5-FU-induced apoptosis of colorectal cancer cells in vitro. METHODS Thirty-nine col-orectal cancer samples from patients were treated with 5-FU (10?g/ml) and folinic acid (5?g/ml. 10?g/ml) in vitro, using the in situ Terminal Deoxynucleotidyl Transferase assay (TDT) to detect the chemosensitivity. p53 mutations from tumor DNA were detected, after amplication by PCR of exons 5 to 8. by non-radioactive single-strand conformation polymorphism(PCR-SSCP). Objective To investigate the healing mechanism of the rabbit's selerotomy sites undergoing the transconjunctival su- tureless vitrectomy(TSV),and to compare the wound healing effect of the different surgery procedures.Design Experimental study. The change of gravity causes a series of physiological dysfunctions,such as redistribution of blood,destruction of skeleton,reduction of hemopoietic tissue and so on.Since the success of mission to the moon and construction of space station,the study on change of human physiological functions under microgravity has been underway.With the machine of microgravity developing maturely,associated researches have made big steps forward.However,intensive study on the changes of human hemostasis and thrombosis under the microgravity are still needed,especially in the area of high incidences of bleeding and thrombotic diseases.The result will help to prevent hemostasis and thrombosis on astronaut and promote the development of our national aerospace industry.

Under the condition of microgravity, human body will experience a series of cardiovascular deconditioning. The vascular endothelial cells are the most important component of the vessel wall, so the changes of biological characteristics of vascular endothelial cells are directly related to cardiovascular deconditioning. Therefore, it is important to prevent and treat the cardiovascular deconditioning in astronauts by studying the effect of microgravity on biological characteristics of vascular endothelial cells.
