Objective To evaluate hepatic toxicity of arsenic trioxide(As 2O 3) on rabbits with hepatic Vx-2 carcinoma by transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE), and its clinical signification. Methods New Zealand rabbits with hepatic Vx-2 carcinoma were managed with normal saline (experimental group 1), normal saline plus lipiodol (experimental group 2), and As 2O 3 plus lipiodol (experimental group 3) respectively by TACE once, whereas experimental group 4 was treated with As 2O 3 by transcatheter arterial infusion(TAI) for 7 days consecutively. The morphological changes of the tumor adjancent hepatic tissue were observed under light microscope and transmission electron microscope. The hepatic function of the rabbits was also determined. Background The visual evoked potential (VEP) is an important functional index to assess visual cortex plasticity.Monocular form deprivation(MD) of rat is a classic model to study visual cortex plasticity change.Utilizing VEP technique record the shift of ocular dominance in adult rats model is of an important significance for explore the treating opportunities of amblyopia.Objective The present study was to observe the pattern VEP changes in different ages of Long-Evens rats and the adult rats after binocular form deprivation.Methods Thirty-six healthy SPF Long-Evens rats were divided into PW3,PW4,PW5,PW6 groups according to the postnatal weeks,and PW7 rats included 36 SPF Long-Evens rats.The left eye lids of the rats were sutured in PW3,PW6 and PW7 rats for 3,5,7 days respectively,and PVEP in both left and right eye were recorded to assess the rat age that visual cortex plasticity ended.Bilateral PVEP were recorded in PW7 rats,and the bilateral eyelids were sutured to establish the bilateral form deprivation models.The right eyes were opened in 7,10,14 days,and the left eyes were opened in the next 3,5,7 days respectively and the PVEPs were recorded again to find the shift of ocular dominance and whether binocular form deprivation induce the visual cortex plasticity in adult rats.Results The P100amplitudes of the left eyes were gradually declined and those of the right eyes were raised from 3 to 7 days after MD of the left eyes in rats of PW3 group in comparison with before MD ( P＜0.01 ).In PW6 groups,no significant changes in P100amplitudes of both the right and left eyes were found in the third day after MD,but significant raise in the right eyes and lowing in the left eyes were seen in the 5 and 7 days after MD in comparison with before MD(P＜0.01 ).No any P100changes in both eyes were found in 3-7 days after MD compared with before MD in PW7 rats (P＞0.05).The C/I ratio (contralateral VEP amplitude to ipsilateral VEP amplitude in occluded eyes) in the rats of PW3,PW4 and PW5 groups were 1.07±0.15,1.16±0.16 and 1.14±0.15 respectively in 3 days after MD,showing the significant lowing in comparison with before MD (2.69±0.45,2.58±0.4,2.62±0.32) (P＜0.01),but those of PW6 and PW7 were unchanged (2.80±0.48 vs 2.90±0.46,2.59 ±0.36 vs 2.90±0.46,P＞0.05 ),indicating the absence of ocular dominance plasticity in the adult rats.In rats of PW7 with binocular form deprivation for 14 days,a significant decrease was observed in the C/I ratio in rats with next MD for 3 days,demonstrating that the visual cortex plasticity was reactivated after 14 days of binocular form deprivation in PW7 rats( 1.33±0.18 vs 2.70±0.45,P＜0.01 ).Conclusions PVEP can be recorded in Long-Evens rats.It is a major index for identifying the shift of ocular dominance in the Long-Evens rats.Binocular form deprivation can reflect the visual cortex plasticity in the adult rats.

Objective To investigate the characteristic changes of the auditory brainstem response (ABR) of normal hearing newborn and infants .Methods One hundred and forty -five cases (290 ears) normal hearing new-born and infants were enrolled for ABR test .Before that they passed the distortion product otoacoustic emissions and acoustic immitance test previously .According to age ,13 (26 ears) of 145 were included in the 1~7 days age group ,17 (34 ears) was in the 30~59 days age group ,20 (40 ears) in the 2~4 months age group ,19 (38 ears) in the 5~7 months age group ,17 (34 ears) in the 8~10 months age group ,18 (36 ears) in the 11~13 months age group ,12 (24 ears) in the 14~16 months age group ,13 (26 ears) in the 17~19 months age group ,16 (32 ears) in the more than 20~24 months age group .The control group was 20 (40 ears) normal hearing young persons (18~25 years old) .The variation of the peak latency and interpeak latency of waves were observed ,and compared with the normal young people .Results In 70 dB nHL click sound stimulus ,the peak latency and interpeak latency ofⅠ ,Ⅲ ,Ⅴ waves of normal hearing neonates and infants progressively shortened as they grew older .As they ap-proach 18 months or more old age ,their peak latency and interpeak latency of Ⅰ ,Ⅲ ,Ⅴ waves may be same as nor-mal young people .Conclusion With the growth of the age ,the peak latency and interpeak latency of Ⅰ ,Ⅲ ,Ⅴwaves of normal hearing newborn and infants gradually shortened .The reason may be related to the maturity of the auditory system .

In this paper, we briefly introduce the achievement made in the field of spinal biomechanics by FEM in the past decade, summarize the physiological and pathological behaviors of various spinal anatomical parts described by FEM, and present the basic view of using FEM to optimize the surgery instrument design.

The role of bracing for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis,which came into application in 1960's,has long been controversial.There are various brace instrument with different reported effectiveness.In this paper,we summarize the research findings and main views in the effectiveness of bracing for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis in the past ten years,and explore the possible causes leading to the different results.Besides,we are trying to point out the research trend,in hope of drawing a scientific conclusion on the effectiveness of bracing treatment in the near future.

Cancer has become the leading cause of mortality in the urban area of China. Whole body diffusion weighted imaging (WB-DWI), also known as virtual positron emission tomography, has gradually become accepted as an image tool in tumor localization, characterization, staging and monitoring response to therapy or tumor recurrence. Our article aimed to summarize the limited initial clinical use of WB-DWI in the referred area, and to analyze the most potential advantage of WB-DWI in therapeutic monitoring and tumor staging. WB-DWI as a highly sensitive, completely non-invasive, well-tolerated and low price technique has a promising furture in tumor assessment. Profound clinical study is necessary for its further application improvement.

Objective: Fetal monitoring is extremely important in perinatal care. Analysis of cardiotocogragh(CTG) can suppose if the fetus is lack of oxygen, distressed, acidosis, etc. in order to take measures timely. Methods: We have designed Meticare analysis software package to analyze 867 pieces of CTG data, and researched the relationship between short term variation (STV) and basal heart rate(BHR) by statistics, and short time monitoring analysis based on STV. Results: The amplitude of fetal heart rate curve variation(long term variation) tended to decrease when BHR increasing, with the negative correlation and regression equation STV = 9.866-0.02×BHR. Positive correlation exists between 5 and 10 mimute-STV, with the regression equation STV_(10min)=2.861-0.596×STV_(5min).Conclusion: STV calculated by 5 minutes CTG data can forecast the one by 10 minutes data as a reference demanded by Dawes & Redman criterion. If fetal doppler contains STV analysis function, out-patient fetal heart auscultation will be more significant. After 30 weeks pregnancy, with the STV decreasing, fetal distress, asphyxia, low birth weight, and even mortality increasing. BHR increasing should cause attention that STV might decrease, when monitoring with no analysis functional devices or fetal dopplars.
