Conclusions An experimental varicocele can lead to increased reactive oxygen species and decreased antioxidant enzymes levels in prostate, which may be one of the important factors of male infertility induced by varicocele.

AIM: To study the clinical characteristics of corneal perforation ( CP) .
METHODS:A retrospective analysis in July 1995 to July 2010 the First Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University diagnosed CP 72 patients ( 72 eyes ) , clinical characteristics of all the patients were analyzed.
RESULTS: The incidence of corneal ulcer perforation rised year by year, the morbidity of male and female was 17:7, the onset age focused on 48 years old. Of 23 industrial workers ( 32%) with clear history of trauma, pathogeny identification results:top two:fungal infection and Acanthamoeba keratitis. A using history of glucocorticoid was found in 10 cases.
CONCLUSION:There are plenty of primary causes of CP such as traumas, fungal infection, Acanthamoeba keratitis, eroded keratitis, etc. CP happens in middle-aged males in Fujian province, most traumas are the causes, the main pathogenic bacteria is fungal infection.

Objective To evaluate the effects of various head and neck postures and phonation on oropharyngeal view(Mallampati score),and ex-plore the correlation with laryngoscopic view tested by the improved Cormach-Lehane score(MCLS). Methods Following the local ethics commit-tee approval and patients′informed consent to anesthesia,124 patients were enrolled for this study. Prior to anesthesia,these patients were placed in supine position with various head and neck positions for oropharyngeal structures visualization and evaluation,including two head positions(neu-tral and full extension),two tongue positions(in and out),and with and without phonation,according to the modified Mallampati test score(MMT). Following induction,laryngoscopic view scores according to MCLS were recorded,then the sensitivity,specificity,positive and negative predictive value and accuracy of the various MMT scores were calculated. Correlation coefficient(r)of MMT scores with MCLS were also studied. Results Mallampati score was decreased in all the postures of head full extension,tongue outside and phonation,which makes oropharyngeal structures to be better visualized. There is no correlation between MMT scores and MCLS. The sensitivity,specificity,positive and negative predictive value and accu-racy of the various MMT scores is most satisfied in the posture of head full extension,tongue outside and phonation. Conclusion During airway as-sessment in supine position,the best posture is head full extension,tongue outside and phonation.

Objective This study aimed at exploring the causative genes and summarizing the clinical characteristics in two Chinese families with thoracic aortic aneurysm and dissection ( TAAD ) .Methods The whole exome capture and high throughput sequencing were applied to identify the causative gene.Family members were examined for features of syndromic ge-netic diseases by clinician and geneticist.Results Four known TAAD candidate genes were identified in family TAA01:rs140598(FBN1), rs185661462(MYH11), rs77620762(MYLK3), and rs111426349(TGFBR1).The TGFBR1 mutation (c.1459C>T) had been confirmed to co-segregate with the TAAD phenotype in all affected family members.Early onset of aortic root dilatation was significant in this family , and the average age at diagnosis of aortic root dilatation or aneurysm was23. 2 years.ACTA2(c.445C>T) was proved in family TAA02, and livedo reticularis was confirmed.Conclusion The causa-tive genes were identified via whole exome capture and high throughput sequencing in two TAAD families .Early onset of aortic root aneurysm was proved in TAA01, while livedo reticularis was found in TAA02.

Objective To study the influence factors of real-time shear wave elastography(SWE) on the elasticity of focal liver lesions (FLLs) measurement.Methods The mean Young's modulus of 160 FLLs were measured by SWE.The relation between elasticity with different aspects of FLLs were analyzed including postures (supine and left lateral position),respiratory phases (end of inspiratory and expiratory),the probe position (rib and intercostal space) and different operators.Results There were significant differences between different postures and respiratory phases in the elasticity measurement of FLLs by SWE (P ＜0.05).There was no significant difference between robe position and different operators in the elasticity measurement of FLLs by SWE(P ＞0.05).Conclusions The postures and respiratory phases can impact the elasticity measurement of FLLs by SWE.

Objective To explore the effect of living mode on quality of life and life satisfaction of patients with spinal cord injury who survived Tangshan earthquake. Methods From February to May, 2016, 76 patients with spinal cord injury survived the earthquake were in-vestigated, among whom 38 patients lived in the nursing home or rehabilitation village and the other 38 patients discretely lived at home. Their quality of life and life satisfaction were assessed with WHO Quality of Life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF) and Life Satisfaction Assess-ment respectively. Results The scores of physical, psychological, social adaptation and environment field in WHOQOL-BREF were signifi-cantly higher in the concentrated living group than in the scattered living group (t>8.97, P<0.001), as well as the life satisfaction (t=6.55, P<0.001). Conclusion The concentrated living mode could improve the quality of life and life satisfaction of the patients with spinal cord inju-ry survived Tangshan earthquake.

Objective:To explore the function of IL-9 and PU.1 on genesis and development of pulmonary fibrosis,and the effect of active vitamin D3[1,25(OH)2VD3] on the expression levels of this two factors during the pathogenesis of fibrosis.Methods: 90 male SD rats were randomly divided into model group,treatment group,control group (n=30).Bleomycin(5 mg/kg) was injected into the trachea of rats to establish the model of pulmonary fibrosis in the model group and treatment group,while the control group was injected with isopyknic sterile saline.The treatment group,the model group and the control group were injected intraperitoneally with active vitamin D3,solvent of vitamin D3 (propylene glycol) and sterile saline on the 2nd day after surgery respectively.All injections were carried out once every other day.10 rats were euthanized at 14th,21st and 28th day in each group in turn.After obtaining lung tissues from experimental rats,the pathological change of lung was compared by hematoxylin-eosin staining.The difference of collagen fiber and hydroxyproline content were compared by the Masson staining and basic-hydrolysis method respectively.The mRNA and protein expression of IL-9 and PU.1 in lung tissue were detected by Real-time PCR and immunohistochemical technology respectively.The expression of IL-9 in serum was detected by ELISA.Results: Fibrosis appeared in lungs of experimental rats treated with bleomycin after 14 days,and more and more aggravated with time.At three time points,the hydroxyproline content in model group and treatment group were significantly higher than that of control group,and the treatment group was significantly lower than the model group.At three time points,the expression of IL-9 and PU.1 in model group and treatment group were risen gradually,and obviously higher than that in control group.On the 14th and 21st day,the expression of two factors in treatment group was significantly lower than model group;on the 28th day,there was no statistically significant difference between treatment group and model group(P>0.05).In model group and treatment group,the expression of two factors on 21st day was significantly higher than that on 14th day;there was no statistically significant difference between the 28th day and the 21st day.Conclusion: IL-9 and PU.1 may play a profibrotic role at early stage of pulmonary fibrosis induced by bleomycin.The active vitamin D3 may lower the expression level of PU.1,and then reduce the secretion of IL-9,thus may play an inhibiting effect on genesis and development of pulmonary fibrosis in rats.

Objective To investigate the effects of total flavonoids of litchi chinensis sonn (TFL) on cell proliferation and the molecular mechanism in rat hepatic stellate cells (HSC-T6) activated by growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1). Methods HSC-T6 cells were treated by 0.25%Trypsin-EDTA and then were digested into single cell suspension by DMEM (10%FBS included), which were mixed with TGF-β1 (5μg/L). (1) MTT method was used to detect the proliferation of HSC-T6 cells. Cells were cultured in 96-well plate and were treated by different concentrations of TFL including TGF-β1 group, the control group (5‰DMSO included), and different concentrations of TFL groups (80, 160, 320, 640 and 800 mg/L TFL). Each group has three wells. The absorbance (A) value was measured by enzyme standard meter at the 490 nm wavelength after 24 h, 48 h and 72 h treatment. The cell inhibitory rate was calculated. The subsequent experimental drug concentration and drug treatment time were determined according to half inhibitory concentration (IC50). (2) The expression levels of NF-κB andα-SMA mRNA were detected by PCR (for mRNA) and Western blot assay (for protein). Cells were cultured in the 10 cm culture dish and were divided into different TGF-β1 groups, including TGF-β1 group, the control group (5‰DMSO included), and different concentrations of TFL groups (125, 250 and 500 mg/L TFL). After 48 h, related indicators were measured. Results At the same treatment time point, with the increased concentrations of TFL, A values were gradually decreased, and the cell inhibitory rates were gradually increased. There were no significant differences in the expressions of NF-κB andα-SMA mRNA between TGF-β1 group and control group. And there were no significant differences in the expressions of NF-κB andα-SMA mRNA between TFL125 group, TGF-β1 group and control group. There was a gradually decrease in the expressions of NF-κB andα-SMA mRNA and protein with the increased concentrations of TFL. Conclusion TFL can inhibit TGF-β1-induced HSC-T6 cell proliferation, which is involved in the inhibited expressions of NF-κB andα-SMA to anti-fibrotic effects in liver fibrosis.

Objective To determine the effects of 1320 nm non-ablative laser on the proliferation of human dermal fibroblasts,and the secretion of basic fibroblast growth factor(bFGF)and transforming growth factor-?1(TGF-?1)in vitro.Methods Human dermal fibroblasts were cultured,and irradiated three times by 1320 nm laser at a dose of 15,20 and 24 J/cm~2,respectively.The levels of bFGF and TGF-?1 were examined by ELISA at 0,24,48 and 72h after the irradiation.The number of fibroblasts before and after irradiation were determined.Results The number of fibroblasts and the secretion of bFGF both in- creased after the irradiation at the doses of 20 J/cm~2 and 24 J/cm~2(P

To investigate the metabolic rate and metabolites of 9-dehydro-17-dehydro-andrographolide, which is the main active ingredient in Xiyanping injection, by using the in vitro rat liver microsome incubation system. 9-dehydro-17-dehydro-andrographolide was incubated together with liver microsome mixed with NADPH. Its metabolic rate was studied by determining its residual concentrations with the UHPLC-MS/MS method; Its metabolites were identified by the UPLC-TOF-MS(E) method. The results showed that 9-dehydro-17-dehydro-andrographolide was metabolized faster than rat liver microsomes mixed with coenzymes, with t½ and CL of (19.7 ± 0.5) min and (35.1 ± 0.8) mL x min(-1) x g(-1) (protein), respectively. Based on the high resolution mass spectrum data and information from literatures, altogether nine metabolites of 9-dehydro-17-dehydro-andrographolide were identified in the incubation system, particularly hydroxylated and dehydrogenized products. The results of identification would provide a basis for screening out more active andrographolide derivatives.
