Computed tomography (CT) is considered the most sensitive method for the detection of intraocular foreign bodies (IOFBs).The purpose of this study was to evaluate a new method of 3-dimentional (3D) localization of IOFBs that takes advantage of the anatomical structure of the optic nerve and to assess the clinical outcomes using this new method.Twenty-two trauma patients with IOFBs or suspected IOFBs admitted to our hospital were scanned with multislice CT (MSCT) between July and December 2003.All scanning was performed with a 16-row spiral CT in axial plane using a sequential scanning protocol.During the scanning,the eyeball of the patient was kept stable and was not allowed to rotate internally or externally.Section collimation was set at 16 mm × 0.75 mm.Table feed was 12 mm.Reconstruction index was 0.75 mm.After scanning,the reconstructed images were loaded into a workstation to create the multiplanar reconstruction images with the aid of the 3D software.We compared the localization results with the operative findings.Multiplanar reconstruction images showed IOFBs in all 22 patients.IOFBs occurred in the eyeball of 14 patients,in the wall of the eyeball of 5 patients and in the posterior orbits of 3 patients.Different surgical procedures were designed according to the localization by this new method and all IOFBs were successfully removed.All of these foreign bodies were metallic and the localization of IOFB using MSCT was consistent with that found by operative findings.It was suggested that MSCT is a simple and effective imaging modality for the localization of IOFBs.In our study,we localized the IOFBs more quickly and accurately by taking advantage of the fixed position of the intraocular segment of the optic nerve,and determined the necessary surgical parameters.

ABSTRACT The taboos of man-spirit (RenShen) and bottom-spirit (KaoShen) are two kinds of time-related contraindications that are more commonly seen in the literature of acupuncture and moxibustion. The meaning of man-spirit is often extended to qi-blood or mind, or else directly equals to heaven-spirit (TianShen). It is highly possible that the bottom-spirit is subordinate to man-spirit, and both Taoist philosophy and the SanCai theory declare the importance of bottom in human body. The violation of contraindications could lead to diseases in the neighborhood where man-spirit travels. However, the results are generally recorded as ulcer, lingering disease and death in most medical texts. From Ming dynasty, more and more doctors have expressed disapproval of man-spirit and bottom-spirit.

BACKGROUND:There are abundant cel populations in the placenta that attracts more and more attentions because of high content of CD34+cel s. It is expected to become a new source of hematopoietic stem cel s for the treatment of hematologic diseases and other malignant diseases.
OBJECTIVE:To investigate the amount of cel s derived from placenta, their colony forming ability, and their chimerism analysis.
METHODS:Five placentas obtained from five healthy ful-term cesarean women were treated with perfusion method and tissue digestion for the cel col ection. Flow cytometry was used to detect the proportion of CD34+cel s in the placenta and cord blood, fol owed by the culture of cel colonies as wel as regular observation of cel morphology and counting. PCR amplification with sequence-specific primers and sequence-specific oligonucleotide probes were used to examine HLA type of placenta, umbilical cord blood, and maternal peripheral blood;Short tandem repeat PCR was used for chimerism analysis.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:There were more CD34+cel s in the placenta than in the umbilical cord blood. The placenta had good ability to form multiple colonies in vitro, and there were maternal source components in the placenta. It is concluded that the amount of cel s in the placenta and their biological functions exhibit the potential use of placenta as a new source of hematopoietic stem cel s.

A microwave digestion system was preparation for the digestion of the sediment samples of 16 stations in the Southe mid_Atlantic ridge by using HNO3_H2 O2_HF as the digestion reagent. The rare earth elements ( RE ) in sediments were determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, and distribution characteristics of rare earth elements were studied. The microwave digestion_ICP_MS method was used for the determination of rare earth elements with a good linear relationship ( r=0 . 9997-1 . 0000 ) for each element. The detection limit reached ng/L level, the relative standard deviation ( RSD, n=3 ) was less than 3% and the relative error was 6%. The total amount of rare earth elements (ΣRE) in sediment samples from 16 stations varied in the range of 37. 25-134. 77 μg/g, the ratio range of light RE/heavy RE ( LRE/HRE) was 0 . 61-1 . 70 , the average value was 1 . 27 , and the enrichment of light rare earth elements in sediments was slightly obvious. The RE distribution patterns were basically the same in each station with obvious fractionation between LRE and HRE. The RE distribution patterns were also similar in sediments from different sources with slightly difference between terrestrial and marine sediments. The δEu and δCe in the sediments had negative anomaly which showed that the rare earth elements in sediments came from the seawater. This study first analyzed the content and distribution of rare earth elements in the southern Atlantic, providing data and technical support for further study of the distribution of rare earth elements in the Atlantic.

Objective To analyze clinical and radiological characteristics of intracranial hemorrhage in hematological diseases to improve the recognition of them. Methods Thirty-one clinical data of intracranial hemorrhage cases with hematological diseases were reviewed. The basic diseases, clinical and radiological manifestations, and risk factors of mortality were analyzed. Results Intracranial hemorrhage usually occurred in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) or idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP),and 13 and 6 cases, respectively, in this group. Most patients presented with headache, restlessness, nausea,vomiting, conscious disturbance and no localization sign by physical examination. CT or MRI images often revealed focus of errlysis. Compared with CT scan, a higher detection rate of ICH could be realized by MRI scan. The total mortality in this group of ICH patients was 71% (22/31). Fever, white blood cell ＞5×109/L,platelet ＜50×109/L, hyperimmunoglobulinemia and disturbance of blood coagulation were risk factors for ICH of this group of patients. The mortality was higher in patients with no less than 2 risk factors[86.4 % (19/22)vs 33.3 % (3/9)] (x2 = 8.718, P = 0.003). Conclusion ICH is a serious complication for hematological patients. MRI scan is good at improving the diagnosis of ICH. It is of high risk of death in patients with no less than 2 risk factors such as fever, white blood cell higher than 5×109/L, platelet less than 50×109/L,hyperimmunoglobulinemia and disturbance of blood coagulation.

Objective There is a huge demand for rehabilitative services in Chongqing whereas detailed information regarding local clinical services and rehabilitative professionals are unknown. Therefore, a cross-sectional survey was conducted to generate a profile of current rehabilitative status in Chongqing for reference of relevant local parties and peers in other provinces of China to create a larger picture of rehabil-itation in China. Methods The survey began in early January of 2015 and ended on October 20th of 2015. With two categories of information, including background of rehabilitation professionals and rehabilitative clinical services, the self-made questionnaire was sent via email to rehabilitation therapists working in local clinical settings which fulfilled the inclusion criteria. The reminder was sent once a month to those who did not yet replied. The software SPSS 20.0 was used to analyze the data descriptively. Results 7 out of 13 in-volved clinical settings responded with an overall response rate of 53.8%. 98 out of 122 copies were adopted based on filling requirement. The result revealed 68.4%(n=67) of the participants were junior practitioners, 57.1%(n=56) of them had less than 5 years experience and 45.9%(n=45) were holding a diploma with little research experience. As for clinical services, assessment of ROM (94.9%, n=93) and manual muscle testing (94.9%, n=93) were mostly used. The physical therapy service was more prevalent than occupational therapy services. The clinical field mostly involved was adult rehabilitation (77.6%, n=76). Bedside training in the acute phase (81.6%, n=80) and one-to-one treatment (92.9%, n=91) was the most commonly seen mode of service in the departments. Conclusion The local rehabilitative professionals were featured by their young age with comparatively low educational level, qualification and weak research skills. The clinical services they provided were yet quite basic and simple. Thus, a set of policies regarding education and profession in rehabilitation therapy should be facilitated instantly and it also calls for the establishment of local academic society for rehabilitation therapists, thus promoting an all-round development of rehabilitative profession.

Background Retinal neovascularization disease is a common cause of blinding.Retinal neovascularization is related to enhancing proliferation of vascular endothelial cells.So how to inhibit proliferation of vascular endothelial cells is a hot burning issue.p21 is known to be involved in the regulation of cell cycle and therefore inhibit the cell proliferation.However,the relationship of p21 and the proliferation of vascular endothelial cells in retinal neovascularization disease is for further study.Objective The aim of this experiment was to study the proliferation of rhesus retinal vascular endothelial cells(RF/6A) and expression of p21 in RF/6A cells under the hypoxia condition,and discuss their association.Methods The RF/6A cells were cultured and passaged in vitro,then they were randomly divided into normoxia culture group(5％ CO2 +95％ O2) and hypoxia for 1 hour,3,6,12 hours group(1％ 02+5％ CO2 +94％ N2).Flow cytometer(FCM) was used to check the distribution of RF/6A cell cycle in the normoxia culture group and hypoxia for 1 hour,3,6,12 hours groups.MTT assay was used to detect and compare the cell proliferation(A570)among the various groups.The expression of p21 in the cells was analyzed by Western blot.Results FCM showed that the cells proportion of G0/G1 stage was reduced initially and then increased afterward in hypoxia for 1 hour and 3,6,12 hours groups,showing a significant difference among 5 groups (F =20.083,P =0.000),and the cells proportion of S stage and G2/M stage were increased firstly and then declined in different hypoxia groups with statistical significances (F =7.861,P =0.001 ; F =10.305,P =0.003).Compared with normoxia culture group,cells proportion of G0/G1 stage was declined and that of S stage and G2/M stage were raised after hypoxia culture,showing statistically signifcant differences(P＜0.05).MTT showed that cell multiplication capacity(A570 value)strengthened firstly and then weakened in hypoxia groups with time prolongation,showing a significant difference among all the groups(F=7.768,P=0.001),and A570 value in hypoxia for 3 hours and 6 hours groups (0.315± 0.062,0.365 ± 0.064) was significantly higher than that of the normoxia group (0.205 ± 0.063),respectively(P＜0.05).Western blot showed that the expression of p21 in the cells down-regulated at the beginning and then up-regulated with the increase of hypoxia time,and there was statistical significance (F =16.738,P=0.000).The p21 relative levels in different hypoxia groups were reduced in comparison with the normoxia group,showing statistical signifcances(P＜0.05).Conclusions Short-term hypoxia could reduce the expression of the p21 in RF/6A and induce cell proliferation initially,then p21 increases and cell proliferation is inhibited with the prolongation of hypoxia time.

Objective To investigate the incidence of heterotopic ossification in cervical artificial disc replacement in Chinese mainland population by meta-analysis.Methods The related literatures published between 1997 and June 2012 were collected from both English databases,including Pubmed,Ovid,Cochrane library and Embase,and Chinese databases including Chinese Biomedical Literature Database,China National Knowledge Infrastructure,VIP database and Wanfang database.Literatures were selected in strict accordance with the inclusion and exclusion criteria.Studies providing data of prevalence of heterotopic ossification after cervical artificial disc replacement in Chinese mainland population were included.The information of literatures was extracted by excerpts questionnaire,and recorded by two independent researchers.I2 was calculated to test heterogeneity among studies.A random effects model was used if I2 ≥25％.Subgroup analysis was done according to the number of levels of disc replacement,brands of implants and duration of follow-up.Sensitivity analysis was done according to the sample size.The Meta-Analyst software was used for statistical analysis.Results A total of forty studies (1822 cases) were included in this study.The pooled incidence of heterotopic ossification was 7.3％ (95％CI:4.7％ to 11.0％).For single and mixed level disc replacement,the incidence was 11.6％ and 5.8％,respectively.For single and mixed level disc replacement using Bryan disc,the incidence was 13.8％ and 5.4％,respectively,and the total incidence was 7.2％.No matter the single or mixed level disc replacement,the incidence of heterotopic ossification increased with follow-up.Conclusion The incidence of heterotopic ossification in cervical artificial disc replacement is high in Chinese mainland population,while it is lower than in foreigners.However,it is necessary to monitor its long-term incidence due to its increase with follow-up.

Adipose tissue contains a population of multipotent cells called adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs). With the similar properties of marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells, ADSCs have the ability to differentiate differentiate towards adipogenic, osteogenic, chondrogenic, myogenic, endothelial, hematopoietic, hepatic, islet, and neurogenic cell lineages. As adipose tissue in harvested in large amounts with minimal morbidity, it can be widely used in tissue engineering, organ repair and gene therapy. This paper focused on the plasticity of ADSCs and reviewed the new advances of this field. Finally, the problems and prospect for application was also discussed.

Objective To research correlation of serum protein spectrometry and lymphoma markers for diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) patients. Whether there is relative between the protein and prognosis will be further researched. Methods Serum protein spectrometry of 62 DLBCL patients was detected by the SELDI-TOF-MS technique and Weak cation exchange 2 (WCX2) chip. Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) was detected by biochemistry method. Beta-2-microglobulin (β2-MG) and cancer antigen125(CA125)were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The level of LDH, β2-MG and CA125 for DLBCL patients between 11×103～12×103 protein expressed positively and negatively was analyzed. Meanwhile,correlation analysis and survival analysis were done. Results LDH, β2-MG and CA125 in 11×103～12×103protein expressed positive group were (523.30±435.96)U/L, (3.23±1.24)mg/L, (81.07±61.39)U/L respectively,and they were higher than that in negative group (P＜0.05). 11×103～12×103 protein was positive correlated to LDH, β2-MG and CA125 (P＜0.01). The survival time in 11×103～12×103 protein expressed in positive group,in which median survival time was 11 months, was shorter than that in negative group(P ＜0.01). The survival time in LDH normal group was longer than that in increased group(P ＜0.01). The survival time of β2-MG and CA125 had no significant difference between increased group and normal group. Conclusion LDH and 11×103～12×103 protein are expected to be prognosis indicators for DLBCL patients.
