Objective To investigate the relationship between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D level and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).Methods The fasting plasma glucose,fasting insulin,25-hydroxyvitamin D,and high sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels in the normal glucose tolerance group and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) group were measured.The homostasis model assessment insulin resistant (HOMA-IR) and homostasis model assessment β cell (HOMA-B) were calculated for assessing the insulin resistance and β-cell function.The relationship between 25-hydmxyvitamin D and hs-CRP,HOMA-IR,and HOMA-B were analyzed.Results The level of 25-hydroxyvitamin D in the GDM group [(2.16 ± 0.38) nmol/L] was significantly lower than that in the normal glucose tolerance group [(4.13 ±0.79) nmol/L](P =0.001).Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D level was negatively correlated with hs-CRP (r =-0.448,P =0.002) and HOMA-IR (r =0.396,P =0.004),but was positively related with HOMA-B (r =0.495,P =0.001).Conclusions The serum 25-hydmxyvitamin D level remarkably decreases in GDM patients.Vitamin D deficiency may cause the functional damage of beta cell of islet,increase insulin resistance,and thus contribute to the development of GDM.

Objectives To study the incidence of Trichomonas vaginalis(TV)infection in Chinese male patients with nongonococcal urethritis(NGU),to evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of urine-based and urethral swab polymerase chain reaction(PCR)detection,and to set up a method of non-invasive detection for male TV infection.Methods One hundred and five male NGU patients were collected from the STD clinic.Two urethral swabs were obtained from each patient,one for InPouch TV culture system,the other for PCR;one urine specimen(first-void urine or first-catch urine)was also collected for PCR detection.Culture was considered as the"gold standard".Compared with the culture,the sensitivity,specificity,positive predictive value(PPV)and negative predictive value(NPV)of two PCR detection were calculated.Results The positive rate of InPouch TV system detection was4.76%(5/105);the positive rate of urine-based PCR and urethral swab PCR detection was3.81%(4/105)and4.76%(5/105),respectively.In comparison with the culture,the sensitivity,specificity,PPV and NPV were80%,100%,100%and99%for urine-based PCR and80%,99%,80%and99%for urethral swab PCR.Conclusions TV is one of the etiological agent for male NGU,the positive rate of TV is4.76%in our study.The urine-based PCR detection has a higher sensitivity and specificity and provides a noninvasive method which is feasible in practice.

Objective To establish the method of content determination of Piperine in Biba Zhitong Tincture.Methods HPLC was adopted in determining the content of piperine in Biba Zhitong Tincture.C18 chromatographic column was used with the column temperature being the room temperature.The mobile phase was tetrahydrofuran-methanol-water(V∶V∶V=30∶30∶50)with the velocity of 1.0 mL/min.The detection wavelength was 343nm,and the sampling volume was 10?L.External standard method was chosen for content calculation.Results The inner peak area of piperine(8.3～41.5 mg/L)showed fine linear relation with mass concentration of control group.Its regression equation was A=3413186?-7467.7,r= 0.999 8,with the average recovery ration being 99.7%,and RSD=1.8%(n=6).Conclusion The method is simple,convenient,good reproducibility and non-interference,and can effectively control the quality of the preparation.

We tried to clarify the effect of traditional Chinese medicine in the cases of diabetic retinopathy. The 12 male patients and 21 female patients of diabetic retinopathy are administered Kampo extracts.
Most of the patients were classified as a simple type or a preproliferative type. These patients were divided into three types of pathological conditions diagnosed by Traditional Chinese Medicine such as “deficiency of Qi” “Yin-deficiency” and “deficiency of Oi and Yin” accompanied stagnation of pathological blood.
After the administration of Kampo extract for over 6 months, the effects were recognized in more than 80% of the patients from the observation on absorption of hemorrhage and white flecks of the retina and the improvement of visual acuity.
The basic pathological conditions should be considered for prescription of formulations for diabetic retinopathy.

The extensive application of radiotherapy and the long survival of patients with malignant tumors have led to an in-creased incidence rate of radiation-induced osteosarcoma (RIOS), one of the most critical radiation-induced complications. Compared with primary osteosarcoma, RIOS has higher grade and poorer prognosis, which reduces the survival of patients with cancers. However, RIOS has not been fully understood in the clinical setting. This paper summarizes the latest progress at home and abroad, focusing on the incidence rate, risk factor, latency, and diagnostic criteria of RIOS. The molecular mechanism of RIOS is associated with the muta-tion of p53, the activation of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway, and the superposition of multiple alleles. Furthermore, we discuss the differences in clinical characteristics, imaging findings, treatment, and prognosis between primary osteosarcoma and RIOS.
