OBJECTIVETo explore the effect of internal fixation with screw through femoral epiphyseal plate on growth in- hibition via an experimental study.

METHODSForty New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided into 4 groups and 10 rabbits in each group. Epiphyseal plate was injured by penetrating of screws, and the size of damage area was controlled by changing the number of threads. Group A: blank group; group B: injury area accounted for 4% of the epiphyseal plate; group C: injury area accounted for 6%; group D: injury area accounted for 8%. The internal fixation was removed after 2 weeks, and the results were observed with X-ray film for 4 groups to judge the complications such as early closure of epiphyseal.

RESULTSIn each group, there were no statistical differences in the length of the femoral neck, the diameter of femoral neck, the diameter of the femoral head, and the epiphyseal plate closure time. The growth speed of the length and diameter of the femoral neck, as well as the diameter of femoral head, were quicker on the early phase, and the speed was slowest when the epiphyseal plate was being closed.

CONCLUSIONThe injury area of epiphyseal plate under 8% is safe for its growth. Because no evidences demonstrate the growth inhibition of epiphyseal plate, the screws can be used for rabbit epiphyseal plates.

Objective:This article is to study the quality of life and the situation of social support for the elderly in Weifang while analyzing the correlation between them.Methods:This study was undertaken among elderly aged over 60 followning the European five D health scale and Social Support Rating Scale.The results were analyzed statistically.Results:On the living quality of elderly in Weifang,the EQ-SD index was (0.78 ±0.12) and the EQ -VAS index was (76.42 ± 14.67).The result from each scale shows a tremendous health issue among the elderly in Weifang.On the other hand,the situation of social support for the elderly in Weifang appeared optimistic.Still,this situation can be improved in practical supports.Also,there was significant negative correlation between EQ-5D and SSRS (r =0.260,P ＜ 0.05).Results of multiple linear regression show that the subjective support and objective support may enter the regression equation.Conclusion:To conclude,the city of Weifang awaits improvements in aged care and social support for the elderly.Only by this chance the quahty of life of the elderly may be improved.

Aim Paclitaxel(PTX)has shown an effect against human cancer. However, serious drawbacks hamper PTX clinical use.Overcoming paclitaxel limi-tations is one of the best approaches to enhance water solubility.Methods In this study,water-soluble pa-clitaxel prodrug was prepared,folic acid-polyethylene glycol-glutamic-paclitaxel (FA-PEG-Glu-PTX ) com-posed of folic acid (FA,target),amino acids (Glu, linker),and polyethylene glycol(PEG)in order to im-prove the solubilization and stability. The chemical structure and physicochemical property of prodrug were measured by LC-MS,solubility,drug release rate to e-valuate the antitumor activity and cytotoxicity of FA-PEG-Glu-PTX.MTT assays were conducted on MDA-MB-231,MCF-7,A549 and HELF cell lines.FA-PEG-Glu-PTX prodrugs were labeled with 5 amino flu-orescence visible fluorescent dye (5 AF ) for fluores-cence microscopy.Results The successful conjugation of FA-PEG-Glu-PTX was confirmed by LC-MS,and had better water solubility,release rate curve.In vitro studies indicated that foliate receptor(FR-α)mediated uptake of PTX-conjugated multi-small molecules carri-ers induced highly targeting ability,and antitumor ac-tivity,as well as reduced side toxicity effects of PTX. Conclusion FA-PEG-Glu-PTX has a good antitumor activity.

AIM: To address whether the analysis of CD45~+CD86~+ cells isolated from para-aortic lymph nodes (PLNs) is valuable in assessment of the status of local immunity at the feto-maternal interface. METHODS: CBA/J?DBA/2, virgin CBA/J, and CBA/J?BALB/c mice were used as an abortion-prone model (group A), non-pregnant controls (group N), and fertile controls (group F), respectively. The percentage of CD45~+CD86~+ cell in the CD45~+ cell group (CD45~+CD86~+ percentage for short) and the absolute number of these cells were determined with flow cytometry (FCM), using mononuclear cells isolated from PLNs collected on day 5.5, 9.5, and 13.5 of gestation, respectively, and mononuclear cells from placentas on day 13.5 of gestation. To clarify the identity of these CD86~+ cells, FCM was also performed with CD3, CD19 and DX5 as markers for T cells, B cells, and NK cells, respectively. Objective To investigate the expression and significance of Ezrin and ICAM-1 in gastric carci- noma.Methods The expression of Ezrin and ICAM-1 were examined by S-P immunohistochemistry assays in 78 ca- ses of gastric carcinoma.30 cases of nonmalignant tissue and 30 cases of normal stomach.The relationship between them and their pathological characteristics were analyzed.Results ①The expression rates of Ezrin and ICAM-1 were obviously higher in carcinoma group than that of nonmalignant group and normal group(P<0.01),in the lym- phatic metastasis group than that in non lymphatic metastasis group(P<0.05),and in T3.T4 group and than that in T1,T2 group(P<0.05).②The expression level of ICAM-1 was positively related with that of Ezrin(r=0.46. P=0.00).③The test of the expression of Ezrin and ICAM-1 simutaniously could obviously increase the sensitivity and specificy for detecting the metastasis of stomach malignant tumor(P<0.05).Condusion The over expression of Ezrin and ICAM-1 is related to the pathogenesis and invasion as well as metastasis of stomach carcinoma.The combined detection of two markers can obviously increase the sensitivity and specificy for predicting metastasis of stomach carcinoma.

Objective To investigate the processing characteristics of locative prepositions in patients with Chinese aphasia,and to provide the theoretical evidence for the rehabilitation of aphasia.Methods Twenty aphasic patients caused by left-hemisphere stroke and twenty matched normal controls were studied.Using the locative prepo- sition repeating task(single words,locative preposition phrases and words in sentences),the comprehension task, filling-gap task,the visual-spatial function task and the short-term memory task,we compared the performance be- tween these two groups.Results The aphasic patients had more difficulty in repeating locative prepositions in sen- tences,in comprehension task and filling-gap task,their short term memory was impaired.Both groups did well in re- peating single words and phrases.Conclusion The processing of locative prepositions was impaired in Chinese aphasics.The repetition of locative prepositions was more difficult than that of phrases and single words.The preposi- tions were often omitted.It might be due to the impairment of their short-term memory,or it might have something to do with role they played in the syntactic structure.The latter might also impact the comprehension and filling-gap score.We should make plans before rehabilitation therapy.

Objective To develop a sensitive,specific, simple and rapid quantitative real-time PCR (Q-PCR) assay for detection of Staphylococcus aureus with SmartCycler.Methods According to the nuc gene sequences specific to S.aureus, a pair of primers and one TaqMan probe were designed. An internal amplification control (IAC) which is a chimeric double-stranded DNA constructed from a fragment of the Listeria monocytogenes hly gene flanked by the nuc-specific target sequences was added to the reaction system. This IAC was detected using a second TaqMan probe labeled with a different fluorophore. The performance of the nuc-IAC Q-PCR was evaluated using artificially contaminated drinking water and commercial UTH whole milk samples spiked with ATCC 6538.Results The nuc-IAC assay could be used reliably for detection with a sensitivity of 5 copies of linear plasmid DNA per reaction, 10 fg of genomic DNA in 62.5% of the reactions or 50 cfu/ml S.aureus cells with 50% probability. The quantification was linear (r~2≥0.998) over a 6-log dynamic range, with a PCR efficiency over 0.967. The 5×10~2 CFU per 25 ml mimic sample of drinking water or milk could be detected by this assay consistently and quantifiably.Conclusion The nuc-IAC Q-PCR assay for S.aureus is developed. It could not only be applied for the quantitative detection of S.aureus, but also prevent the false negatives and underestimations of contamination loads due to PCR failure.
