AIM:To study the effect of Danhong Zhiganching capsules on the experimental fatty liver in rats.METHODS: Male SD rats were treated by high fat diet for 6-week after being treated by a low dose of CCl_4 to induce fatty liver model. Then, drugs were given by oral to the rats, the contents of triglyeride, total cholesterol in serum and liver tissue, the contents of superoxide dismutase and malondialdehyde in serum and the contents of free fatty acids in liver tissue acted as indexes to determine the effect of Danhong Zhiganching capsules.RESULTS: The contents of triglyeride and total cholesterol in serum and liver tissue of rats were significantly reduced by Danhong Zhiganching capsules, and so it is with the contents of free fatty acids in liver tissue(P

A simple and convenient procedure for stereoselective synthesis of (Z)-allyl selenides has been developed by a one-pot reaction of diselenides with Baylis-Hillman adducts in the presence of samarium metal-trimethylsilyl chloride under mild conditions. Presumably, the diselenides are cleaved by Sm/TMSCl system to form selenide anions, which then undergo S(N)2' substitution of Baylis-Hillman adducts to produce the (Z)-allyl selenides.

Objective To investigate the medical assistance to inpatients from low-income families for solving their difficulties in seeing doctors and affordability. Methods Random sampling was made to five ongoing medical assistance projects in the hospital for statistics and analysis of the data so collected. Results Medical expenses of such inpatients are beyond their affordability.Despite the coverage of their basic medical insurance, the reimbursement rate is too low to alleviate their financial burden. Conclusion A“4-party payment”model is recommended, combining the government support for basic medical insurance, social welfare assistance, philanthropic assistance and that paid by the inpatients. This model is expected to effectively alleviate the financial burden of such inpatients.

Objective To identify the genotypes of ESBLs-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates from the First Affiliated Hospital,Shantou University Medical College. Methods The MICs of 10 antibiotics were determined by agar-dilution against the clinical isolates of ESBLs-producing K.pneumoniae.PCR were performed with specific primers for blaTEM,blaSHV, blaCTX-M and blaOXA respectively.PCR products were cloned and sequenced. Results The results of PCR showed that a- mong the 83 strains of ESBLs-producing K.pneumoniae,75 were positive for blaTEM,41 positive for blaSHV,25 poitive for blaCTX-M,9 positive for hlaOXA.Three genotypes were found in 13 strains(15.7%),2 genotypes in 59 strains (71.1%) and single genotype in only 11 strains(13.2%).The genes of CTX-M-3,TEM-1 and SHV were found co-existent in 9 strains. The strains carrying 2 or 3 ESBL genes were more resistant to antibiotics than those carrying only 1 ESBL gene. Conclusions The genotypes of ESBLs-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae in this hospital are blaTEM,blaSHV,blaCTX-M and blaOXA. Most strains carry 2 or 3 ESBL genes.

Diabetes surgery is a new concept in recent years, which means controlling blood sugar or curing diabetes through some surgical methods. From the commencement of bariatric surgery in the 1950s to the discovery of the special function of decreasing blood sugar after these surgeries in 1970s, and then the fast developing of diabetes surgery in the past 30 years, now there seems be a different answer to the question that if we can cure diabetes. In this article, we review the historical evolution, surgical procedure, potential mechanism and outlook of diabetes surgery.

BackgroundThe influence of glaucoma on the quality of life in patients is of increasing concern for ophthalmologists in recent years. However, some studies demonstrated that different types of questionnaires about quality of life have various disadvantages. Therefore, to accurately and fully assess the influencing factors of quality of life in glaucoma patients is very important. ObjectiveThe present study was to survey the self-reported visionrelated quality of life(QOL) in glaucoma patients by means of utility analysis and to tentatively analyze its influencing factors. Methods Patients with glaucoma were recruited from a single tertiary ophthalmic department. Standard face-to-face interviews were conducted. Utility values of linear rating scale ( RS ) and time trade-off ( TTO ) were calculated to evaluate the self-reported vision-related QOL of the patients. The correlations of the utility values with the patients' general and ophthalmologic characteristics were also analyzed. This survey was approved by the Ethic Committee of Beijing Tongren Hospital. Oral informed consent was obtained from the subjects before the study.ResultsA cross-sectional study was designed. A total of 86 glaucoma patients were enrolled in this study with 62 male and 24 female, with a mean age of 44. 67 years old. The mean utility values measured by RS and TTO were 0. 62± 0. 19 and 0. 77 ± 0. 12, respectively, and no evidential correlation was found between these two values ( r =0. 074, P=0. 499 ). The RS value was associated with daily visual acuity, mean deviation(MD) of visual field and the history of trabeculectomy. Neither daily visual acuity nor MD showed a significant correlation with the TTO value. Age, work status and educational background contributed to higher utility value for the TTO method. After adjusting for age, work status and educational level, patients with visual acuity in the worse-seeing eye better than 0. 3 showed a higher TTO value than those with less than 0. 3. Conclusions Utility analysis possesses the advantages of convenience and sensitivity. RS utility value is easily affected by the Objective visual status and surgery history in glaucomatous patients, which reflects the subjective assessment of patients'visual quality. However, TTO value is primarily associated with age, work status and education level rather than visual function in glaucoma patients, which is therefore subjective assessment of the disease-related quality of life. These Results indicate that visual function impairment is not a determining factor for the QOL of glaucoma patients.

Kidney transplantation is the treatment of choice for patients with end-stage renal disease, as it extends survival and increases quality of life in these patients. However, chronic allograft injury continues to be a major problem, and leads to eventual graft loss. Early detection of allograft injury is essential for guiding appropriate intervention to delay or prevent irreversible damage. Several advanced MRI techniques can offer some important information regarding functional changes such as perfusion, diffusion, structural complexity, as well as oxygenation and fibrosis. This review highlights the potential of multiparametric MRI for noninvasive and comprehensive assessment of renal allograft injury.
