Objective To evaluate the feasibility of using a microsensor motion capture unit (MCU) to assess the reaching characteristics of hemiplegic stroke patients. Methods Twenty-three hemiplegic stroke patients with an average age of (61 ± 11) years and ten normal subjects of matching age were asked to sit on a chair and use the affected arm (for the patients) or the right arm (for the normal subjects) to reach for a cup on a table just in front of the shoulder at arm's length away.Four small sensor boxes which could detect movement and its speed and smoothness in three dimensions were fixed to the subject's spine,upper arm,forearm and hand.The test was repeated four times after two trial runs.The average velocity,peak velocity,degree of joint dispersion,entropy of acceleration,joint coordination and active range of motion ( AROM ) of the shoulder were analyzed.The patients and normal subjects were statistically compared.The results were correlated with Fugl-Meyer upper extremity scores using Spearman correlation analysis. Results All of the measured variables showed significant differences between the patients and normal subjects.In the correlation study,the average velocity,peak velocity,AROM of the shoulder and joint coordination showed significant correlation with the Fugl-Meyer scores.There was,however,no significant correlation between degree of dispersion of the shoulder or elbow joints or the entropy of acceleration ( which represented the quality of movement) and Fugl-Meyer upper extremity scores. Conclusions The results suggest that microsensor MCUs can quantitatively assess the kinematics of reaching among hemiplegic stroke patients.They can provide valuable and objective data about the functional quality of multiple joint movements in three dimensions.

Objective To investigate the role of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) transplantation in repairing injured intestinal mucosa of acute pancreatitis.Methods MSCs were harvested and cultured from femurs of male SD rats.Twenty female SD rats were divided into three groups,and serve acute pancratitis (SAP) model was induced by intraperitoneal injection of L-arginine (2 g/kg) twice.Twelve hours after SAP model established,MSC transplantation group (n=8) were injected MSCs (5 × 106 cell/rat) through tail vein for three days,and SAP group (n=6) were injected the same volume of saline through tail vein as control.Control group (n=6) were only injected the same volume of saline without any treatment.All the rats were sacrificed at 72 hours after model established.The small intestinal tissues were taken for HE staining and pathological score,the TNF-α mRNA and IL-1β mRNA expression level in small intestine and pancreas were tested by RT-PCR.Y chromo-some (Sry) gene in pancreatic and intestinal tissue was examined by polymerase chain reaction (PCR).Results The relative expression quantity of TNF-a mRNA and IL-1β mRNA in pancreas was significant higher in SAP group and MSC transplantation group than in control group (7.22 ± 1.99,3.46± 1.75 vs 1.32 ± 1.04 ; 2.71 ± 0.56,1.92 ± 0.28 vs 0.61 ± 0.45 ),the difference was statistically significant (F=18.375,F=22.701; P＜0.05).Compared with SAP group,the expression quantity of TNF-α mRNA and IL-1β mRNA in pancreas was significantly decreased in MSC transplantation group,the difference was statistically significant (P＜0.05).The relative expression quantity of TNF-α mRNA and IL-1β mRNA in small intestine was significantly higher in SAP group and MSC transplantation group than in control group (3.93 ± 1.08,2.13 ± 0.53 vs 0.68 ± 0.42 ; 2.44 ± 1.54,1.02±0.44 vs 0.60±0.14),the difference was statistically significant (F=21.772,F=6.132; P＜0.05).The expression of TNF-αmRNA and IL-1β mRNA in MSC transplantation group was lower than that in SAP group,the difference was statistically significant (P＜0.05).Compared with SAP group,pathological score indicated that small intestine injure was slighter in MSC transplantation group (3.83±0.28 vs 2.83±0.56),the difference was statistically significant (F=12.013,P＜0.05).Sry gene could be detected in the pancreatic and intestinal tissue of MSC transplantation group.Conclusion Allogeneic MSC transplantation group can inhibit Pro-inflammatory cytokines expression in acute pancreatitis,relieve the intestinal mucosa injury and may involve in the intestinal tissue repair.

Objective:To study the effects of combination of rhubarb and early enteral nutrition on severe acute pancreatitis(SAP).Methods:A total of 73 patients with SAP were randomly divided into one of the three groups: 21 patients treated with total parenteral nutrition(TPN),27 patients treated with early enteral nutrition(EEN),and 25 patients treated with combination of rhubarb and early enteral nutrition(REN).The hospitalization cost,length of stay,mortality,recovery time of intestinal function and score of APACHE Ⅱ were observed.The plasma procalcitonin(PCT),the levels of C-reactive protein(CRP)and prealbumin were detected.Results: In REN group,there was no death.There was 1 patient died in EEN group and 2 patients in TPN group.The recovery time of intestinal function in REN group was(2.49?0.59) days,the length of stay was(25.13?4.35) days,and the hospitalization cost was(56.9?7.2) thousand yuan.They were obviously shorter than those in the other groups(TPN group,P

Objective To assess the reaching ability of hemiplegic stroke survivors using a motion capture unit (MCU) combined with surface electromyography (sEMG).Methods Sixteen stroke survivors with hemiplegia formed the experimental group,while healthy counterparts were selected as the control group.Both groups were asked to sit on a chair and reach for a cup on a table in front of their shoulder at arm's length using their affected arms in the experimental group and their right arms in the control group.MCUs were fixed on their spines and arms to obtain kinematic signals,and the sEMG signals of the trapezius,the anterior deltoids,biceps and triceps of the tested limb were recorded.Each subject repeated the test 3 times,and the best result was retained for further analysis.After signal processing,the range of movement of the shoulders and elbows was extracted along with the time used to reach the cup,peak angular velocity,time to peak velocity of the shoulders and elbows,work of the muscles and work ratios of the trapezius/deltoid and biceps/triceps.The upper limb section of the Fugl-Meyer assessment (FMA) was also administered to evaluate the patients' upper limb function.Independent sample rank sum tests compared the patients with the controls in terms of kinematics and sEMG parameters.Spearman analysis was used to explore the correlation between the FMA scores and the kinematics and sEMG characteristics.Results Significant differences in the kinematic and myoelectric indicators were found between the patients and the controls.The average FMA score of the patients was correlated with the peak velocity of the shoulder joint.Moreover,the ROM of the shoulder was closely related to the work of the trapezius,while the time for the shoulder joint to reach peak velocity was closely related to the work ratio of the biceps and triceps.Conclusion An MCU integrated with synchronous sEMG can quantitatively assess the kinematics and kinetics of hemiplegic stroke survivors,at least in reaching.This can provide objective guidance to optimize clinical rehabilitation.

Objective:To assess the effects of Herbst two phase treatment on temporomandibular joint(TMJ) position analyzed by CBCT.Methods:15 patients of permanent dentition with class Ⅱ malocclusion combined with mandibular retrusion were treated by Herbst appliance as the 1st phase,then the 4 1st premolars of each patient were extracted,the fixed appliance of edgewise was applied as the 2nd phase of treatment.CBCT examination was carried out at the following stages:2 weeks before Herbst treatment(T1),at the start of the treatment when Herbst appliance was placed(T2),immediately after Herbst appliance was removed(T3) and immediately after the edgewise appliance was removed(T4).The InvivoDental software was used to calculate the joint space of TMJ from the three -dimensional CBCT images.The acquired data were then statistically analyzed.Results:During T1-T2-T3 stages,the anterior joint space was decreased and then increased,superior joint space and posterior joint space were increased and then decreased.During T3-T4 stages,the superior joint space and posterior joint space decreased further,but anterior joint space did not change.No significant difference was found in the anterior joint space,superior joint space and posterior joint space between T1 and T4 stage.Conclusion:At the start of treatment with Herbst appliance,the condyle is displaced in an anterior and inferior direction.At the end of functional treatment,especially the end of two phase treatment,the condyle is drawed back nearly to the original position.

The geographic information systems (GIS)-based assessment and landscape ecological principles were applied to assess eco logy suitability areas of Coptis Rhizoma in Chongqing. slope, aspect and altitude are main topographical factors that affect the content of the total alkaloid content in Coptis Rhizoma The total alkaloid content in Coptis Rhizoma is higher in the lower altitude, shady slope and bigger slope areas. The total alkaloid content is higher in the south areas of Chongqing province and lower in the northeast. Terrain conditions of the southern region of Chongqing are most suitable for The accumulated of total alkaloid Coptis Rhizoma content.

Objective: To evaluate the effects of functional appliance and multi-bracket appliance on Angle Class II malocclusions coupled with vertical and transversal problems. Methods:Headgear-activator, Herbst appliance and multi-bracket appliance were used to treat 20 patients with Class II malocclusions coupled with vertical and transversal problems aged from 10 to 15 years. The lateral cephalograms were measured with Winceph 8. 0 software and statistical analysis was carried by SPSS 13. 0 software. Results:The sagi-tal, vertical, transversal problems had mainly been resolved at the end of functional appliance treatment. The SNB were increased( P<0. 05), ANB were decreased(P<0. 05), upper posterior teeth were intruded and distally moved(P<0. 05), lower posterior teeth were extruded and mesialy moved(P<0. 05). After multi-bracket appliance treatment, the anterior teeth achieved normal overbite and over-jet. The molar relationship changed from class II to class I. Mandibular plane angle was not clockwise rotated(P>0. 05). The upper and lower dentition were harmony in sagital, vertical and transversal. Conclusion: Functional appliance combined with multi-bracket appliance can be used effectively and conveniently for the treatment of Class II malocclusions coupled with vertical and transversal prob-lems.

Objective To study the surgical technique of construction of orthopic liver transplantation model in mice by a single operator.Methods On the basis of two-cuff technique,running suture was used to reestablish the suprahepatic vena cava(SHVC),"two-cuff"technology to reestablish the portal vein(PV)and infrahepatic vena cava(IHVC),and"stent"to reestablish the bile duct.Operation was performed in 70 mice,the 24 h,1 week,1M postoperative survival rate were noted,and hepatic function and pathological change were observed.Results The 24 h,1 week and 1M survival rate was 95.7%,90.9%,85.1%,respectively.The ALT increased gradually in the first postoperative week,and dropped to normal level in the first month.Pathology showed the structure of liver tissue was fine.Conclusions The method is an ideal mothod to establish the orthotopic liver transplantation model in mice,because it has high survival rate,good stability and is easily replicated.
