AIM:To evaluate the effect of rigid gas permeable ( RGP ) lens on the tear film and the visual quality in adolescents with a double-pass system.
METHODS:This was a prospective study comprised 23 myopia patients ( 39 eyes ) wearing rigid gas permeable contact lens ( RGP ) between Jun. 2015 and Aug. 2015 in the Department of Ophthalmology of Jinling Hospital. Uncorrected visual acuity ( UCVA ) , sphere refractive, cylinder refractive, Schirmer I test, tear film break-up time ( BUT ) , the visual quality and the tear film quality with OQAS II were obtained before and 1wk, 1, 3, 6mo after wearing. The data was analyzed using t-test and One-way.
RESULTS:The UCVA in before and after 1wk, 1, 3, 6mo were 0. 23±0. 10, 0. 81±0. 23, 0. 99±0. 11, 1. 01±0. 09, 0. 95±0. 14, the difference was statistically significant ( F=723. 36, P<0.01). The sphere in before and after 1wk, 1, 3, 6mo were (-2. 83±1. 34) D, (-0. 63±0. 82) D, (-0. 12±0. 20) D, (-0. 03±0. 10 ) D, (-0. 10±0. 30 ) D respectively, the difference was statistically significant (F=107. 01, P<0. 01). The refractive cylinder in before and after 1wk, 1, 3, 6mo were (-0. 12±0. 21) D, (-0. 13±0. 22) D, (-0. 12±0. 21) D, (-0. 14±0. 26) D, (-0. 21±0. 27) D respectively, there was no significant difference before and after wearing RGP (F=2. 58, P>0. 05). Schirmer I test showed no statistically significant difference before and after wearing RGP ( F=4.88, P>0. 05). The stability of tear film was reduced after wearing RGP, and the difference was statistically significant (F=135. 11, P<0. 01). The modulate transfer function ( MTF ) cut- off frequency was reduced after wearing RGP, the object scatter index ( OSI ) was increased after wearing RGP, and the difference was statistically significant, the tear film quality OSI was increased after wearing RGP, and the difference was statistically significant (F=6. 16, 19. 23, 10. 62, P<0. 01).CONCLUSION:The UCVA is significantly increased after wearing RGP. However, there was no significant change in the base-line of tear secretion, but BUT is significantly reduced after wearing RGP. The stability of the tear film is reduced, which can lead to a decline in visual quality.
2.Methods that used to evaluate the visual quality after wearing orthokeratology lens
International Eye Science 2017;17(6):1090-1094
Orthokeratology is a kind of rigid contact lens which have reverse geometric desi, with higher oxygen permeability and security.Overnight wearing of orthokeratology can decrease the central corneal curvature and increase peripheral corneal curvature by flatting the central department of corneal, thus reduce the refraction of myopia.Through a period of time of wearing orthokeratology lens, patients can obtain good eyesight without frame glasses.Insisting on wearing orthokeratology lens can control the development of myopia.Orthokeratology is widely applied in the control of juvenile myopia, so we need scientific evaluation system to measure the visual quality after wearing orthokeratology lens. Here are the methods that used to evaluate the visual quality after wearing orthokeratology lens.

In order to discover some sensitive parameters of eight diastolic function indexes and establish the discriminant equation, twenty-three patients with coronary heart disease (CAD) and eighteen normal adults were studied by radionuclide, Doppler and apexcardiography. The results showed that eight indexes were signicantly different between CAD and normal groups. The discriminant equation was: Z=0.21X1+23.86X2-22.88X3-0.18X4+2.83X5+ 2.06X6+66.86X7+1.66X8. The discriminant score was 42.99. The discriminant function was 100%. The contributive rates of eight indexes were Ev/Av, 1/3FF, A/E-O, PFR, DATI, EDC, IRT ;and l/3FFd from large to small value, respectively. It is concluded that Doppler Ev/Av is the most sensitive diastolic function index of CAD.

Chinese Journal of Experimental Ophthalmology 2013;(1):23-27
Background Inherited retinal degeneration, one of the major causes of blindness worldwide, comprises a large number of disorders characterized by a slow and progressive retinal degeneration.Interleukin-1 (IL-1)was recognized to be involved in inherited retinal degeneration.Whether IL-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra) can arrest retinal degeneration is worthy of investigation. Objective This study was to investigate the effects of IL-1ra on photoreceptor apoptosis in Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) rats. Methods The use of the animals complied with the Regulations for the Administration of Affairs Concerning Experimental Animals by State Science and Technology Commission. The SPF RCS rats aged 9,15,16,25,30,35,40,50 and 60 postnatal days were collected, with 9 rats for each age group.Retinal sections were used for the TdT-mediated biotin-dUTP nick-end labeling (TUNEL) cell apoptosis assay.1 μl of IL-1ra (1.8 g/L) was intravitreally injected in the right eyes of 9 RCS rats aged 15 postnatal days and PBS was used in the same way in the fellow eyes. The injection procedure was repeated on the 20 th and 25 th day, respectively. The rats were sacrificed on the 30 th day and retinal sections were prepared for the TUNEL assay. The differences in the percentage of the positive cellular nuclei area among different ages of rats were compared by one-way ANOVA,and the differences in retinal layer thickness between IL-1ra injection group and PBS injection group were assessed by paired t test. Results Photoreceptor apoptosis appeared in 20-day-old RCS rats and progressed and peaked in 30 and 35-day-old rats and then reduced, showing a significant difference among rat of various age groups (F=28.020,P<0.01).Images from TUNEL assay showed a weaker and less TUNEL staining in the IL-1ra injected eyes than the PBS injected eyes in 30-day-old rats. The total area and relative area of TUNEL positive nuclei were (223.052±153.092) μm2 and (2.206±1.531) % in the IL-1ra injected group, and those in PBS injected group were (1235.050±359.767) μm2 and (7.269± 1.624) %,with a significant difference between them (t =4.370,t=3.250,P<0.01).The cone and rod thickness was (15.324±9.035) μm in the IL-1ra injected group and (49.566±4.605)μm in the PBS injected group, showing a significant difference (t =22.674,P<0.01).However,no significant difference was seen in the outer nuclear layer thickness between the two groups (t =0.268,P>0.05).Conclusions IL-1 participates in the pathogenesis and development of inherited retinal degeneration of RCS rats. The use of IL-1ra might be a potential approach in the treatment of inherited retinal degeneration.
