Objectives:To evaluate the efficiency of packing jaw defects with a composite of coral and bone marrow. Methods:Twelve patients (9 with jaw cyst and 3 with ameloblastoma) underwent enucleation of jaw lesion and packing with a composite of coral and bone marrow.Repair of the bone defects was evaluated at 1 week,1,6 and 12 months postoperatively by clinical examination and X-ray films. Results:Wound healing after the operations on 10 patients was uneventful, and definite ossification around the implanted material could be detected at 1 month postoperatively.A lot of bone formation and partial resorption of coral were observed at 6 months postoperatively.Complete resorption of coral and complete bone repair were obtained at 12 months postoperatively.Wound breakdown was observed on two other patients, and the composite had to be removed completely. Conclusions:A composite of coral and bone marrow may enhances bone healing in jaw defects after cyst or ameloblastoma removal.

ObjectiveTo study the effect of testing amino acids levels in brain microdialysate by method of high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with α-aminobutyric acid (AABA) as the internal standard.MethodsReversed phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC), orthophthaladehyde (OPA) precolumn derivatization method and fluorescence detector were used. The separation was performed using an ODS-C18 column. AABA, an isomeric compound of GABA, served as the internal standard, phosphate buffer solution and methanol as the mobile phase, gradient elution lasted in 35 min.Results7 kinds of amino acids and internal standard were separated completely. The mean recovery of amino acid was 88.2%—102.3%. The mean correlation coeffeicient of the linear relationship was 0.998±0.0015.Limits of detection for amino acids were 1.0—8.6 ppm respectively.ConclusionThe method mentioned above is simple and sensitive for operation, and can be used for determined levels of amino acids in microdialysate.

Objective To study the pro-invasive effect of irradiation on human glioblastoma cell line U87 and its possible mechanism. Methods Cultured U87 cells received different doses of irradiation (0,2,and 4 Gy).The change in cellular invasiveness was measured using the real-time cell analyzer system. The activities of matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP2) and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP9) in U87 ceils were measured by gelatin zymography before and after irradiation. The content and distribution of intracellular β-catenin after irradiation were determined by immunohistochemistry. The mRNA levels of Wnt/β-catenin target genes were measured by real-time quantitative PCR.Results After irradiation, the invasiveness of U87 cells increased significantly (P < 0.01),which was dose-dependent within a certain dose range; the activities of MMP2 and MMP9 in U87 cells increased significantly (P =0.031 for MMP2 ; P =0.004 for MMP9) ;the content of β-catenin in U87 cells increased significantly (P < 0.01),with translocation from the cell membrane and adherens junctions to the nucleus; the mRNA levels of Wnt/β-catenin-related genes (FZD7 and TCF1) increased significantly (P < 0.01),and the transcription of Wnt/β-catenin target genes, especially those related to migration and invasion such as MMP2,MMP7,MMP9,and CD44,was significantly enhanced (P < 0.05).Conclusions Irradiation can promote the invasion of glioblastoma U87 cells, possibly by activating the Wnt/β-catenin pathway and enhancing the transcription of migration-and invasion-related genes.

Objective To evaluate the effects of ozoned water on the synovial inflammation in rabbits with knee osteoarthritis. Methods Thirty-two rabbits were randomly and evenly divided into four groups by random number method. All the rabbits were made into osteoarthritis models except those in groups A and D.After the osteoarthritis models were made successfully, rabbits in groups C and D received intra-articular injection of ozoned water of 20 μg/ml (2 ml)once a week for three weeks, and the other two groups did not.The morphology of synovium was observed and the expres-sion levels of IL-6 and TNF-α in the synovium were compared among the four groups. Results In group A,there was no hyperemia, edema or cell hyperplasia in the synovium, and the synovium re-mained normol tissue structure. In group B,the synovial structure was damaged, with serious cell hyperplasia, masses of inflammatory cells invading, vascular proliferation and hyperemia, and signifi-cantly increased synovium thickness compared with the normal. In group C,synovial hyperemia and edema were improved, the inflammatory cells reduced, and the synovium thickness was thinner than that in group B.And the group D had no synovitis phenomenon.Compared with group A,the expres-sions of IL-6 and TNF-αwere slightly higher in group D,and they were significantly increased (P <0.05)in the other two groups.Compared with group B,the IL-6 and TNF-α contents of synovium were reduced (P < 0.05)in group C.Conclusion Injecting 2 ml ozoned water of 20 μg/ml into artic-ular cavity can significantly improve synovial inflammation and reduce the expression of IL-6 and TNF-αin the synovium, which does no damage normal synovium.

Objective To establish the training objective systems for undergraduates in mili-tary clinical medicine in order to promote the educational reform of military medicine, and to improve the quality of talents training in military medical universities. Methods Literature analysis was made to determine the initial military clinical medical undergraduate training objectives, and a questionnaire was given to experts, on-the-job military doctors, medical graduates to know the real requirements of military doctors' position. A total of 455 valid questionnaires were collected. Then the questionnaire results were discussed and summarized by the method of expert discussion. Finally,. Delphi method was used to determine the ultimate training objective system. Results The ultimate training objective system of military undergraduate clinical medicine contains two aspects, eight fields and sixty-one standards objective systems. Conclusion Organically fusing military medical knowledge, ability and professional quality requirement into two levels and eight modules and clearly understanding the standards and requirements of each module are significantly systematic, advanced and operable, which has important reference value and guiding significance to both the military medical colleges and uni-versities and the local universities.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2015;32(1):192-196
Due to lack of the practical technique to measure the biomechanical properties of the ocular cornea in vivo, clinical ophthalmologists have some difficulties in understanding the deformation mechanism of the cornea under the action of physiological intraocular pressures. Using Young's theory analysis of the corneal deformation during applanation tonometry, the relation between the elasticity moduli of the cornea and the applanated corneal area and the measured and true intraocular pressures can be obtained. A new applanation technique has been developed for measuring the biomechanical properties of the ocular cornea tissue in vivo, which can simultaneously acquire the data of the applanation area and displacement of the corneal deformation as well as the exerted applanation force on the cornea. Experimental results on a rabbit's eyeball demonstrated that the present technique could be used to measure the elasticity moduli and creep properties of the ocular cornea nondestructively in vivo.

Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2013;19(7):671-673
Objective To observe the relationship of awake bispectral index (BISawake) and the postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD). Methods 100 patients aged 60~75 years with ASA status Ⅰ~Ⅱ, underwent elective lower abdominal surgery with intravenous anesthesia (propofol, remifentanyl and rocuronium). The BIS was adjusted in 40~60 during the surgery. Their cognitive function was assessed with the neuropsychological test battery commended by International study of postoperative cognitive dysfunction (ISPOCD). Results 8 patients withdrew for unwilling or serious complications. The BISawake was more than 65 in 68 patients (group A), and less than 65 in 24 patients (group B). The difference of the verbal learning immediate and delayed of Hopkins Verbal Learning Test-Revised was more in the group B than in the group A. Conclusion Lower BISawake may be associated with the decline of postoperative cognitive function.
