"Tinglizi", the ripe seed of Descurainia sophia and Lepidium apetalum, is a member of Brassicaceae (Cruciferae). Traditionally, the former is called "Nantinglizi" (Descurainiae Semen) while the latter is called "Beitinglizi" (Lepidii Semen). In the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, it has the power to purge lung-fire, relieve dyspnea, promote diuresis and reduce edema, and it is mainly indicated in a case with phlegm-fluid accumulation, cough with excessive sputum, dyspnea with being unable to lie, and general swelling. In view of its wide-spread application in clinic, a comprehensive review of Lepidii Semen and Descurainiae Semen was conducted from the following aspects: herbalogical study, variety identification, historical evolution of processing, chemical constituents, pharmacological effects, quantitative determination and toxicity which could provide reference for further research and development of "Tinglizi".

Objective To observe the effects of early rehabilitation on the serum neuron specific enolase (NSE) levels of patients with acute cerebral infarction.MethodsSixty patients with acute cerebral infarction were randomly divided into a rehabilitation group and a control group. All received routine treatment at the acute stage, including anti-platelet aggregation medication, drugs for improving microcirculation, neurotrophic agents and prompt treatment of any complications. Patients in the rehabilitation group also received systemic rehabilitation training beginning immediately after their vital signs had been stabilized. NSE in serum was assayed before treatment and after 3, 7and 14 days. National Institutes of Health stroke scale (NIHSS) scores were evaluated at each time point, and the two groups were compared.ResultsThere was no significant difference in serum NSE or NIHSS scores between the two groups pre-treatment. Both groups improved to a certain extent, but the improvements in the rehabilitation group were significantly better than in the control group, as their NSE levels at 7 days and NIHSS scores at 14 days were both significantly better.ConclusionsEarly rehabilitation intervention contributes to reducing serum NSE levels after acute cerebral infarction, lessening brain injury, and thereby promoting the recovery of damaged neural function. That may be one of the mechanisms by which early rehabilitation promotes functional recovery in patients with acute cerebral infarction.

OBJECTIVETo understand the reproductive health status of female workers in pharmaceutical industry of Gansu Province, to explore influencing factors, and to propose some reference basis of intervening measures.
METHODSThe cluster sampling method was used to study 1801 female workers from 16 pharmaceutical industries in 6 cities (Pingliang, Qingyang, Lanzhou, Dingxi, Zhangye and Jiuquan cities) of Gansu Province. The investigation was performed by interviewing and adopting questionnaires.
RESULTSThere were the problems of labor and organization, which included the overtime work, continuous work, standing for long periods, rapid monotonous action assignments, the loading work and a variety of harmful factors in the working environment of the pharmaceutical industry in Gansu Province. There were many problems in the reproductive health status of female workers. The morbidities of abnormal menstruation and breast diseases in female workers were 43.25% and 20.43%. The order of high morbidities was hyperplasia of mammary glands (91.30%), breast adenofibroma (5.43%) and mastitis (2.99%). The order of morbidities for three reproductive system disease was adnexitis (21.57%), cervical erosion (20.06%) and vaginitis (11.09%). The rates of abnormal menstrual cycle, abnormal menstrual amount and cervical erosion increased with the length of service (P < 0.01). The taking breaks, long standing, loading work, exposure to harmful factors were related to abnormal menstruation (P < 0.05). The rapid repeat monotonous action was an important influencing factor for female reproductive system disease (OR = 1.255, 95%CI = 1.031 ∼ 1.528).
CONCLUSIONThere are relatively serious occupational hazards in the pharmaceutical industry of Gansu Province. The reproductive health status of female workers is not improved. Social public should pay attention to the protection for female workers.
