Fourty - seven cases were treated with this remedy, a~ mong them, 26 cases were markedly effective, 12 cases abated, 4 cases ineffective, the total effective rate being 91. 5%. The results were apparently superior to the blank control group. The mechanism of such effectiveness lies in the improvement of evacuation of gastric content and gastrointestinal movements.

This study is to investigate inhibitory effects of lidamycin (LDM) on the proliferation of HERG K+ channel highly expressing cancer cells and its synergy with anticancer drugs. MTT assay was used to examine the inhibitory effects of lidamycin combined with various anticancer drugs on the proliferation of human lung cancer A549 cells, human colon cancer HT-29 cells and herg-stably-transfected A549 cells. Using the xenograft model of subcutaneously transplanted HT-29 in nude mice, inhibitory effect was appraised in vivo. The coefficient of drug interaction (CDI) was used to evaluate the synergistic effect of drug combination. LDM significantly inhibited the proliferation ofA549 cells and HT-29 cells with IC50 values of 2.14 and 4.64 ng mL(-1), respectively. The efficacy in HT-29 cells with high HERG potassium expression level is less potent than that in A549 cells with low expression level. In terms of IC50 values, LDM suppressed the growth of herg-stably-transfected A549 cells less potently than pCDNA3.1-stably-transfected A549 cells. There existed synergistic effects in the combinations of fluorouracil (5-FU) and LDM, doxorubicin (DOX) and LDM, or hydroxycamptothecine (HCPT) and LDM. CDI values of the combinations of 5-FU and LDM were more than 0.75. CDI values of LDM and DOX were more than 0.70, but some CDI values of LDM and HCPT were less than 0.70. As for the CDI values, synergistic effects of the combination of LDM and HCPT were the most potent of the three groups. There is no relationship between the inhibitory effect of the growth of cancer cells by 5-FU and HERG potassium expression level. HERG expression level negatively correlated with inhibitory effect on the proliferation of cancer cells by DOX. HERG expression levels and chemosensitivity were positively correlated for HCPT. In the model of subcutaneously xenograft transplanted HT-29 in vivo, LDM and/or HCPT effectively inhibited the growth of HT-29 in nude mice, and the optimum CDI of the combination of LDM and HCPT was less than 1. HERG expression level negatively correlates the chemosensitivity of cancer cells to LDM. There exist synergistic effects in vitro and in vivo in the combination of LDM and HCPT, which inhibitory effects of the proliferation of cancer cells positively modulated by HERG potassium expression level. HERG K+ channel may become a target of combined therapy for choosing anticancer drugs.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate auditory developments and the effectiveness of children with congenital bilateral aural atresia after using softband Ponto and to compare them with children with normal hearing. METHOD: Twenty patients (age ranging from 3 months to 21 months ) with bilateral aural atresia were studied. The air and bone auditory thresholds were assessed by auditory brain stem response (ABR). The infant-todder meaning auditory integration scale (IT-MAIS) was used to evaluate the auditory development at three time levels: baseline, 3 months and 6 months. RESULT: The average unaided bone conduction hearing thresholds of patients is (17.5 ± 5.9)dB nHL,and the average air conduction hearing thresholds is (72.5 ± 9.3)dB nHL. The average VRA hearing thresholds of 5 patients is (30.5 ± 5.9) dB HL. The IT-MAIS total, detection and perception scores are improved specifically after wearing softband Ponto and approaching the normal level. CONCLUSION Softband Ponto is suitable for infants with bilateral atresia. Results from these auditory development testing are encouraging. Softband Ponto should be used as a bridge for surgical implantations when temporal bone is thick enough.

Objective To propose a new blood purification modality-hemodialysis with plasma- based dialysate (HD-PBD) plus high volume hemofiltration (HVHF) for patients with liver failure, and to evaluate the effect of this treatment on plasma cytokines.Methods Twelve patients with liver failure were included in this study.All patients received HD-PBD therapy in the first 6 hours,and then were treated with HVHF for 24 hours with the same filter (AV600).The levels of TNF-?,IL-1?, IL-6 and IL-8 in plasma before and after HD-PBD plus HVHF for 6 and 24 hours were examined respectively by ELISA,and changes of clinical parameters were observed at the same time point. Serum bilirubin,total bile acids (TBA),serum ammonia,blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and serum creatinine (Scr) were detected before and after treatment.Arterial blood gas analysis and the concentration of electrolytes were monitored before and after treatment.Results (1)HD-PBD for 6 hours was more effective than HVHF for 24 hours in removal of serum bilirubin and TBA(P＜0.05). (2)Serum ammonia,BUN,Ser,arterial blood HCO_3~-,PCO_2,PO_2 and electrolytes did not show significant difference before and after HD-PBD (P＞0.05),but these parameters significantly changed before and after HVHF (P＜0.05).(3)The average level of serum bilirubin was sharply decreased after HVHF for 24 h following HD-PBD(P＜0.05).(4)After HD-PBD plus HVHF,there was a marked reduction of the plasma levels of TNF-?,IL-6 and IL-8.Conclusions HD-PBD plus HVHF,a newly proposed modality for patients with liver failure,can effectively decrease serum bilirubin,TBA,BUN,Scr,ammonia and cytokines,and adjust water-electrolyte as well as acid- alkali balance.It is a low-cost,safe,simple and convenient therapy.

OBJECTIVETo observe the effect of combined therapy of Neiyi pill (NP) and Neiyi enema (NE) on endometriosis and its effect on serum levels of endometrial antibody (EMAB) and carcinoembryonic antigen 125 (CA125).

METHODSFifty-eight cases with endometriosis were divided into 3 groups randomly, group A (n = 16) treated by NP, group B (n = 24) treated by NP and NE, and group C (n = 18) treated by danazol, all for 3 menstrual cycle with single blind method. The effect was observed and the serum levels of EMAB and CA125 were detected before and after treatment.

RESULTSComparison of the efficacy between the 3 groups showed: there was no remarkable difference between group A and B (P >0.05), both of group A and group B were superior to that of group C (P<0.05). The levels of EMAB and CA125 had no significant changes in all the three groups after treatment.

CONCLUSIONCombined therapy of NP and NE could improve the curative effect on endometriosis, and without obvious effects on serum levels of EMAB and CA125.

Objective We examined the in vivo effect of the antisense or/and decoy oligonucleotide of nuclear factor-?appa B (NF-?B) on balloon-injured smooth muscle cell proliferation and MMP-9 in the carotid artery of rats. Methods Sprague-Dawley rats underwent balloon-dilation injury of the left carotid artery. Rats were divided into 7 groups(n=18) and each group included 6 time points (6 h and 1,3,5,7,14 d)(n=3). AIM:To compare the efficiency of fibrin glue to suture technique in pterygium surgery performed with limbal autograft under different methods of anesthesia.
METHODS: A prospective randomised clinical trial was carried out in 60 eyes of 55 patients operated for primary nasal pterygium, which were divided into two groups randomly: experimental group ( 30 eyes in 27 patients ) was under surface anesthesia ( oxybuprocaine ) and control group ( 30 eyes in 28 patients ) was under local anesthesia ( 20g/L lidocaine ). Autologous limbal graft taken from the superotemporal limbus was used to cover the sclera by a fibrin tissue adhesive after pterygium excision. Patients were followed up at least for 6mo. Time of operation, matching degree of graft and VAS score were mainly observed and recorded.
RESULTS: In experimental group the average surgery time was shorter (P=0. 008) and matching degree of graft ( 93%) was better than control group ( 83%) , the differences had statistical significance(P<0.05).
CONCLUSION: The surface anesthesia is enough when using fibrin glue for graft fixation in pterygium surgery, which will shorten surgery time and get better matching degree of graft.
