Purpose To investigate epidemiology and clinical features of tumors and tumor-like lesions of the foot and ankle,as well as prognosis of malignant tumors.Methods A total of 170 patients,surgically treated for bone and soft tissue tumors of the feet and ankle between 1984 and 2009 in a tertiary referral center specializing in orthopedic oncology,were enrolled in this retrospective study.The age,gender,clinical feature,tumor types,anatomical sites,the correlation between tumor size and tumor types,and the prognosis of malignant tumor were analyzed.Results There were 91 males and 79 females,aged from 7months to 76 years (average,33.1 years).There were 51 cases of bone tumor and 119 cases of soft tissue tumor.Benign tumors commonly occurred in the second and third decades of life,with an average age of 29.54years,while most malignant tumors occurred in patients aged between 40 and 59 years,with an average age of 43.73 years.Skin lesion was a symptom implying malignance.Soft tissue tumor and benign tumor were the most common types in the foot and ankle.Giant cell tumor of the tendon sheath was the most common type among benign soft tissue tumors; subungual exostosis and enchondroma were the most common types among benign osseous tumors; while melanoma and synovial sarcoma were the most common types among malignant soft tissue lesions.Both primary and metastatic bone tumors were very rare.Forefoot was the most common site where foot and ankle tumors happened.There was no correlation between tumor size and types of soft tissue tumor,while there was a high correlation between tumor size and types of bone tumor.Among 44 patients with malignant tumor,16 patients underwent limb salvage surgery,while 28 patients underwent amputation.The mean duration of follow-up was 32.4 months.Six patients survived with no evidence of disease.The 5-year survival rate was 16.13％.Conclusion Benign and soft tissue tumors are the most common tumors in the foot and ankle.Most malignant tumors occur in patients over 40 years of age.Skin lesion is a useful symptom in diagnosing malignant tumor.Forefoot is the most common site where tumor happened.There is a high correlation between tumor size and tumor types.The prognosis of malignant tumor is very poor.

1H NMR-based metabolomic approach combined with multivariate statistical analysis was used to evaluate the quality of 21 Farfarae Flos (FF) samples from different growth regions. Principal component analysis showed that wild and cultivated FF could be separated clearly, suggesting a big chemical difference existed between them. Supervised PLS-DA analysis indicated that the wild samples showed higher levels of secondary metabolites, such as bauer-7-ene-3β, 16α-diol, chlorogenic acid, rutin, 7-(3'-ethylcrotonoyloxy)-1α-(2'-methyl-butyryloxy)-3, 14-dehydro-Z-notonipetranone (EMDNT), tussilagone, β-sitosterol and sitosterone. This is consistent with traditional experience that the quality of wild samples are better than that of cultivated ones. The content of pyrrolizidine alkaloids senkirkine also differed greatly among samples from different habitats. The Pearson correlation analysis showed that senkirkine is positively correlated with 4, 5-O-dicaffeoylquinic acid, 3,5-O-dicaffeoylquinic acid, 3,4-O-dicaffeoylquinic acid, rutin, kampferol analogues, to a statistically significant extent. The correlation between the toxic compounds and the bioactive components in FF should be further studied.

Objective To evaluate the feasibility of composite material of bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) and PLGA/TCP in repair of peri-porous-titanium bone defects in adult rabbits.Meth- otis The composite of PLGA/TCP scaffold with bovine BMP was made and implanted in distal bone de- fects peri-porous-titanium in femur of adult rabbits.The effect of BMP with PLGA/TCP on peri-prosthesis was evaluated by means of scanning electron microscope (SEM),energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) and biomechanics.Results BMP with PLGA/TCP showed obvious peak of Ca and P of EDX in the pores of titanium in experiment group six weeks after operation and higher than that in control group (P＜0.05).Push-out test demonstrated that the bonding strength between the composite of HA coating/ porous titanium and bone was increased significantly with time (P＜0.05).In experiment group,at 6 and 12 weeks,peri-porous-titanium had higher shearing force compared with control group (P＜0.05). Conclusion BMP loaded with PLGA/TCP is a promising bone graft for bone defects in revision arthro- plasty,as indicates that bone induction of BMP plays an important role in biological stabilizaiton.

Objective To analyze the alterations of serum protein fingerprint in patients with hypertensive disorder complicating pregnancy(HDCP),screen serum biomarker and establish a diagnostic model of HDCP.Methods Surface-enhanced laser desorption lionization-time of flight-mass spectrometry (SELDI-TOF-MS)technology was used to analyze serum including 25 cases of HDCP patients and 30 cases of age-,gravity-and parity-matched healthy term pregnant women on IMAC3-Cu proteinchip before delivery. Biomarker Wizard and Biomarker Pattern software was used to detect protein peaks significantly different between HDCP and controls,and establish a primary diagnostic model of HDCP.This model was further evaluated by blind test using other 16 parts of serum protein fingerprint.Results Ten protein peaks were significantly different at the molecular range of 2000-50 000(P
